An organisation’s strategy plays an important role of providing direction of where company wants to be and how best to allocate the company’s resources to meet its objectives. The formulation of business strategies has evolved over the years and has been made more difficult in recent by the uncertain operating environments and global financial crises. The key to sustainable business is ensuring that the company’s strategy proportions are aligned (Kim, W.C & Mauborgne, R, 2009). Caterpillar Inc. has been in existence since 1925 and the company has faced its fair share of turmoil. The current global challenges coupled with a stronger dollar make it difficult for any organisation to operate but Caterpillar continues to outperform the competition. The key to the company’s success is its strategy execution supported by an unmatched distribution network.
