Caterpillar is a company that was created back in 1825 when a man by the name of Benjamin Holt tried to create an easier way for his steam machines to run, so he combined wood and chains that became the substitute for tires. Caterpillar creates heavy duty machinery has not only helped around the world but has helped develop the world that we live in today. For example the heavy duty CAT machines were used to create roads in Venezuela and China to connect citizens. They played a role in helping to create some of our most iconic images around the world such as the Golden Gate Bridge that started construction back in 1937. Caterpillar has more than 500 locations around the world and at least half of this number consists of locations in other countries.
In the short story, “The Moths”, the narrator, a fourteen year old girl, assumes the responsibility of taking care of her cancerous and dying Abuelita. Her Abuelita is the only person who understands the narrator and the only person she feels she can turn to. After having followed man’s rules for so many years, Abuelita passes away. All the moths that lived inside her are freed and the narrator learns some life lessons. Helena Maria Viramontes uses symbolism and setting to illustrate the oppression of women in “The Moths.”
Roberto used a variety of sheltered instruction strategies to reach his goal of having his class to participate in an English. He used a grade appropriate book, The Hungry Caterpillar, to help keep his students’ stay engaged in his lesson as he slowly integrates learning the names of the days in a week. He used a mixture of verbal communication as well as using visual cues to help students’ process the instruction to their own needs. He first reads to the students, then he uses visual props, such as putting the caterpillar and the fruits on popsicle sticks, to help dramatize the caterpillar’s actions visually. He then replaces the props with sentence strips used in word charts so his students can visually see, hear, and say the words they

Sloths (/ˈsloʊθ/ sloh-th, /ˈslɒθ/ slo-th)[2] are medium-sized mammals belonging to the families Megalonychidae (two-toed sloth) and Bradypodidae (three-toed sloth), classified into six species. They are part of the order Pilosa and are therefore related to anteaters, which sport a similar set of specialized claws. Extant sloths are arboreal (tree-dwelling) residents of the jungles of Central and South America, and are known for being slow-moving, and hence named "sloths". Extinct sloth species include many ground sloths, some of which attained the size of elephants.
The Moths by Helena Maria Viramontes is a short story about a relationship between a teenage girl and her abuelita. Although, the title seems unfitting for a story about a loving relationship between family members the significance of the moths, in this story, has a much deeper meaning than one would think. Like many other aspects of the piece, the insects have a symbolic meaning in order to convey the author’s feelings during the time of her grandmother’s death. Throughout the story we see the use of multiple descriptions, settings, as well as dialogue in order to pass a message to the audience. The Moths is not only a story about death and brokenness, but a story about cures and peace. Upon further examination of this narrative, the story presents symbolic attributes about the main characters personalities, descriptions, and religious imagery that tell the story about a cure for brokenness, a rebirth of hope, and coming of age.
Many improvements have been made on the tractor since the model John Froelich invented in 1892. The first tractor had three wheels and was clumsy to move. Eventually tractors would be made with four wheels which made them easier to drive and more stable when moving. The invention of the tractor would also lead to the invention of the Caterpillar or ‘crawler’ which worked much like the tractor except it used tracks instead of wheels. These machines proved especially useful in places like the California which had heavier soil. The invention of the tractor also lead to the invention of powered hydraulics to lift heavy machinery and the ‘power take-off’ allowing the tractor to be used more efficiently as a power source to other machines while the tractor was stationary or moving. These improvements and inventions have led to many types of machines which have made farming more efficient and
In “The Moths”, Helena Viramontes brings forth a life of depression, seared by a gradual compassion. A fourteen year old girl finds herself cleaning the body of her grandmother, now rotting from the inside, slowly being consumed by cancer and frailness. Shortly after her grandma’s life slips away the narrator is drawn to tears for the first time in forever. The root of this compassionate scene is built around the emotional relationship she had with her grandmother. Throughout the short story this young girl experiences a gloomy life. This was contributed by her feeling towards her self-appearance and personality, neglectful treatment from a majority of her family, and the forced paths that she was chosen to take growing up. However, her grandmother had created ripples in her life that shed light into her dark point of view towards her existence. Viramontes intends to present an existence of unhappiness and show that compassion can break through our toughest and darkest walls.
Do you remember the last time you took a bath? A bath filled with bubbles, perhaps with a younger sibling? What about the last time you stood in a bath, holding your dead grandmother, naked as moths came out of her mouth? In the short story “The Moths”, by Helena Maria Viramontes, a young Latina misfit granddaughter matures the moment her grandmother dies. Compared to her relationship with her parents and her siblings, the bond she carried with her Abuelita was special. She found comfort with her after receiving several whippings, broken her arm, puberty and even her first lie. (1) She would gladly help her out with her gardening or cooking, although they hardly spoke, or hardly looked at each other as they worked. Although she was rebellious and callous, human experience is conveyed through magical realism, exemplifying the narrator’s vulnerability towards her grandmother.
In the short story, The Moths Helena Maria Viramontes uses characterization and symbols to shine light on gender roles and maturity especially for women in the Hispanic culture. This short story was published in 1985 and during this time gender roles were changing. The number of women obtaining a higher education increased, it became more common for women to resist the stay at home and watch the children lifestyle. Hispanics in the US during this time felt like they were losing self-identity due to harsh laws passed by the United States. Knowing this information while I read this story was meaningful because it gave me a better understanding on what the narrator and her family were going through.
In Helena Viramontes’ short story “The Moths,” she explores the thematic ideas of negativity and growth in the context of familial expectations.
Caterpillar: Caterpillars are generally very colourful creatures but these colours are there for a purpose. These colours allow them to camouflage and hide from predators and other animals that feed on them. Many caterpillars are green so are able to blend into leaves or trees where larger animals do not spend much time. This is an adaptation they have developed to help them survive and run from
