Pete Rose once said You’d be surprised how many shortcomings can be overcome by hustle. This means that your doubt, laziness which are shortcoming’s can all be overcome by hard work and hustle. In the book the Big Field the lesson is working hard to get what you want. In this quote Hutch said “I will never give you that spot Darryl” this quote is one of the most important quotes in this book. It so important because throughout the book Hutch is working hard for this position, and because he wants it, they fight over it the boys barley even talk to each other because of this. The coach in the book said if you want to be on the field work hard day in and day out. The coach said only the hardest workers will get to play on the team. This book defiantly relates to teens today I would recommend this to teens personally. It relates to teens because teens in high school, playing sports have to work hard to be on the teams. Since I started playing for the high school its a lot more work than playing ball as a kid. You have to work really hard to be on the team and to get better. The team had to work out over the summer to stay in shape and those people that really irk and get better are the ones making plays on the field. In the book Hutch …show more content…
People and really teens can learn a lot from this book. This book is all about working hard to be something for example the coach say “work hard boys if you want to be on the field”. Since I have read this book I have worked harder at home and in the field to get better and get playing time. This could really help people to gain confidence to go out and work hard and do things with full potential. People reading this book and reading about a boy that lost and spot and worked hard to get it back and play in the world series and win can really change people to do the same in life. I recommend this to everyone its a very good
ii. By participating in sports, teens can learn to communicate effectively with their fellows especially when an instant decision is required.
In the end I was very happy that the author wrote this book close to real life like he did. I feel that it really brought the book together in the end and made it more relatable. Like I said before I feel that everyone could find a way to relate back to this book. Wether it was playing soccer, getting in trouble, or taking care of the ones you love you can always find something to relate to in this great book.
Hyman wants to inform the public, that yes! Youth sports are great for the children, but do we really have to fall for all the bull crap that keeps pulling out thousands of dollars out of our pocket. Hyman doesn’t really have one solid point he sticks with. Instead this topic is so broad, that Hyman talks about several different problems and situations that parents and these children face with sports. But all of these tie into the main focus of this book, which Hyman is trying to get at, that Youth sports is getting more and more complex, which is making it more and more expensive. With parents and adults not realizing or admitting it, it is breaking the bank for many adults and is not always leading to where they want their kid to be, say a college scholarship or being a
My hometown Bergenfield, New Jersey is like many cities in the north. Bergenfield is full of rich history and great food for visitors to partake in. The growth of Bergenfield began slow with small residents and then later started to form its own with the help of the state of New Jersey and New York helping to build the George Washington Bridge. When Bergenfield was discovered on June 25, 1894 by a railroad company the city was laid out as Bergen Fields stamped on the tickets.
Author Kris Vervaecke wrote an essay titled, "A Spectator's Notebook," for Writers in Sports. She talked about sports and how they affect different generations. Vervaecke supports her claim by showing how much she loves sports and by using her children as examples throughout the essay. Her son, Ben, represents strength, determination, and talent because of how successful he was in golf, and before he leaves for college he puts in Michael Jordan’s Air Time, that united Ben and Vervaecke. On the other hand, Vervaecke’s daughter, Emily, is a bench-warmer and was told she is only smart not athletic, so she was “benched” in the classroom. She then talks about her other son, Andrew, and describes him as the true athlete of the family because of how much people liked him. Vervaecke’s purpose is to show that sports are not just about something fun to do or watch, but can have a motivational impact that can affect someone's emotions, and she does this by developing an influential tone. Although Vervaecke mainly talks about her experiences and her childrens throughout the essay, her experiences apply to many students across the country. Many student-athletes are very successful in their futures because of what sports have taught them. Students should be involved in sports because student-athletes learn responsibility, how to manage their time, and take care of their psychological
I would also recomend this book to sports lovers it's a lesson for anything in life or any sports in life this book teaches you. THis book would more likely be on the more kids to young adults because it not a tough read but it teaches a couple lessons in the book and it eye opening. I thought for me as a student athlete is was a great book for me to keep my head in it and i will definitely take stuff from this book to use in my real life. Thi book overall is good and i would recommend all student athletes or anybody that from lie 11-16 years old to read this it eye opening and it can really help you in life to help
I would recommend this to those people because it was alway hooking me in and I never wanted to put the book down. The baseball part is about Michael and his Clippers team when they made it all the way to the Little League World Series. The dream of Michael the protagonist in the story it is to make it to the Little League World Series and he does and that makes the book so interesting to me because I can relate to it. The cliffhangers in the book are really good. Usually in books when the chapter ends I like to take a break but in this book I never wanted to put it down. The baseball in the book is a little unrealistic but it’s ok because I still enjoyed it and you should read it if you enjoy baseball and cliffhangers in one
Is about baseball and the math of it like how many hits per at bats home runs per at bats. Shows you how to get era and avg. About the standing for clinching the playoffs. I can relate to this because I love to learn about stats. Another connection with the book is that I know most of the stats in baseball and how to get most of them and about the playoffs I made it 2 years in a row
The purpose of this paper is to argue the fact that youth sports are not becoming too intense. After reading the New York Times article I decided to pick this topic and argue against this theory because as a division one athlete I have my own opinions. I picked three sources which can back up and prove that sports being too intense is very much your own opinion.
Daniel Gould’s non-fiction essay, “Are High School Sports Good For Kids,” explains the benefits of doing sports in high school. He uses examples from research, showing the true benefits of being involved. Than, Gould uses transitions to show both sides of high school sports. Than, he uses other sources to back his argument up. Gould uses his persuasive ways to pull in teens and adults. His purposeful tone explains all the beneficial aspects of sports in high school and how teens can gain educational and personal benefits.
A lot of parents think that sports are too hard and too physical for teens and children, but sports are, actually, the best thing that will happen to these minors. Sports are a huge influence on children and teenagers, because participating in sports can actually influence the future of young men and women of today's generation. For the children and teenagers that start to play at a young age, sports can help children develop physical skills and learn how to work as a part of a team.
Sports are a popular pastime among all ages and types of people. People not only participate in them for fun, but also for money, physical fitness, rush of competition, and for many other personal reasons. Playing sports is especially common among young people in schools. Athletics are great and enjoyable for many reasons, but there can be a point where sports participation can go too far and become negative for children and adults. Sports specialization for young people is an increasing trend that results in sports having a negative impact on individuals and society.
Things appeared to be doomed from the start as the Cleveland Browns hosted the Oakland Raiders. Right from the gate, Derek Carr had the Raiders in rhythm and marched down the field on their first possession. Although, the Browns held them to just a field goal, it was the beginning to a long day.
There are many lessons in this novel. One of the ones that stood out to me is you don’t always have to win to be happy. They are at a school where everything revolves around sports. Their principal made it a rule that every senior had to play a sport at school. The main character named jack made up a soccer team called the losers.
“Just one word … plastics,” the statement that alone can summarize Mike Nichols’ 1967 film, The Graduate. However, when Mr. McQuire tells the movie’s main character, Ben Braddock, that there is "a great future in plastics" he finds it irrelevant and escapes to be alone in his room. However this comment surreptitiously creates a parallel to everything we see in Ben’s life. Whether it be the apprehensive relationship with his parents, an alienated affair with Mrs. Robinson, or the near unsuccessful pursuit in finding the man within, the film conveys a strong sense of how fear and self doubt can lead to the ultimate downfall in a person.
