The Benefits of Exercising
What can exercise do for me?
Exercise does more then reduce weight, it can improve both our health and fitness, and should involve using as much of the body as possible.
Exercise has two main benefits:
v Short term these are the effects that happen during the activity itself and also contribute to the long term benefits e.g. the heart rate will increase, which will increase the flow and pressure of the blood.
v Long term these are the lasting effects which occur and include the following:
o Heart becomes bigger, stronger and capable of pumping more blood.
o Lungs get more oxygen to the muscles.
o Blood volume increases, therefore more oxygen can

So if I exercise properly does this mean I will win a marathon?
No, however much we exercise, some people are born better marathon runners then others. No matter what your build is or how much stamina you have got, if you don’t have the right type of muscle fibres then the chances of you become a world class runner are extremely slim. Muscle tissue is composed of muscle fibres that contain two main fibre types, which contract at different speeds, fast twitch fibres which contract quickly and powerfully but fatigue quickly and slow twitch fibres which contract slowly and can keep going for a long time without getting fatigued. Most people will tend to have a balance of about 50% of these two types of fibres in their muscle. Experiments have shown that long distance runners tend to have a higher percentage of slow twitch fibres (74%) in their calf muscles.
One of the main limiting factors to how fast you can run is the amount of oxygen you can get to your muscles. Oxygen is needed for your muscle cells to release energy. The maximum amount of oxygen you can take in and process is known as your VO2 max. The VO2 max of marathoners is 45% higher than an untrained person. But this advantage is largely genetic and research has shown that training only increases VO2 max by 10-20%.
What makes so many Kalenjin runners win
If I wanted to also increase my speed I could run with weights in a bag. The weights will also increase my muscle endurance by getting used to running with heavy strain on them.
Beyond this point your body will struggle to gather a faster and stronger pace as any further beyond your maximum heart rate your body will force itself to quit which is a big part in the last few runs within the sixes

China’s Self-Strengthening Movement (1860 - 1894) is often regarded as a failure. To what extent do you agree with this assessment?
During childhood our body and mind changes very fast. I believe that nowadays parents focus more on the brain developement of their children than their physical activity. When I was a little girl - over 20 years ago - we spent most of our time outside playing, running and enjoying fresh air and being in movement. Physical activity of children can secure them health and well being in their adulthood as well as teach them a lot of very importants aspects like social relations and behaviors in different situations.
The benefits of physical exercise in humans far outweighs the harmful effects associated with exercise. A prescription of physical activity has been known to delay the onset or prevention of many chronic diseases. An improvement in heart function, lower blood pressure and improve functional capacity is noticed after just a few weeks of exercising. Physical activity will also result in an increase of lean muscle mass, promote weight maintenance, increased flexibility, and a generally stronger more fit individual. Conversely, exercise when preformed strenuously or obsessively can counteract such positive effects, bringing up some issues like oxidative stresses, injuries, and

The controversial topic in the realm of physical education is if physical education should remain in schools. Higher up’s are complaining about test scores and suggesting that cutting physical education programs would lead to better test scores. Technically, this would lead to more time spent sitting in a desk and listening to lectures in class, which is supposed to improve test scores. So, the solution to increase test scores is to take the small chance of physical activity that children receive during the school day and keep them almost completely sedentary for six-plus hours. When physical activity is restricted during school hours, children do not regain the lost physical activity after school, resulting in children who remain
