The Benefits of technology
There are many examples of why technology is so beneficial to humans. The ability to know what is happening anywhere on Earth is essentially one click or tap away. The ability to contact a love one in an emergency. The ability to know where you are at if you 're lost. This feeling of being in control of so much is God like you could argue. However, I’m not here to talk about what technology is overall, I’m going to explain if teenagers are essentially to connected to technology and out of touch with the real world, and the answer I have come up with after researching and my own experiences is yes, teens are too connected.
The art of distraction
From my own experiences whenever I am bored or simply have nothing to

After I complete my assignments and show proof I’m allowed to retrieve my wonderful device to catch up on what I have missed for the last 3 hours. The positive side of this is I’m not distracted and I am determined to complete my work, however, the negative of course is I don’t have my phone. I have told this to several of my friends and I get the unanimous response almost every time. “ Your parents are super strict” or “ I do fine with my phone out, tell them that”.
The point of the above two paragraph was to show even though I feel like I deserve my phone after school I really don’t, I have an excellent GPA because of this system they have implemented in our house. During my summer session online ( this is my first year) my parents didn’t take my phone at all and I kind of regret this. I have about a 95 average for both semesters, a good grade but it doesn 't satisfy my standards. I was always on my phone and constantly distracted and just couldn’t focus. So while a teen believes they deserve downtime the really don’t. It’s an art of distraction that is so cunning that are conning their own self into an addiction.
“The risk are small compared to the Benefits”
I have always said that being on my phone is a good thing. If I’m in trouble I can call the police and can be helped. If I get lost I can pull up a map on my phone and know where I’m at. Maybe it 's dark in the house and I need a
Technology isn’t hurting us as it is perceived to be. It seems like there is a lot of controversy between having limitations or not having them for technology. I believe teenagers should have some limitations decided by the family but not have everything taken away from them, because technology is unique and helpful. Technology increases the connection between people, it allows you to express yourself in many way and finally it doesn’t limit your intelligence. Although being connected all the time would possibly make you more isolated or make you feel more isolated it’s fantastic to know you have a chance to not be alone, to be connected even when you’re far away.
I Can’t Put Down My Phone” by Margret Kaminski talks about how the majority of people are addicted to their cell phones. She talks about a student who experienced a panic attack because he left his phone at home. Margret mentions that the sounds of the phone are meant to grab our attention, but we should try to spend less time on our phone. It is hard for people to focus on homework or anything else when there is a phone right next to them (Kaminski).
In the movie WALL-E, everyone had been so consumed by technology that they rode around on floating chairs sipping slushies and watching screens. When someone fell out of their chair, robots would come help them and all the other chairs would be detoured around them. As glued to screens as teens are now, it seems at least a bit likely that humanity could end up like that. they think that they need their devices all the time, so when issues occur, they will probably look for a way around it, like riding in chairs with a screen mounted at just the right level so the neck does not have to be bent. Avoiding a world like in WALL-E is not the only reason why teens should have limited smartphone use. People under the age of 18 should be banned from smartphones because
My first reason to support my claim is being on technology makes teens have less real life experiences.Which can hurt them on how they will adapt. This quote explains that people need to socialize in order to get experience and adapt to Survive, but since teens don't go out to socialize. They won't have any
I spend so much time on my phone and it isn’t good because it messes up my vision, it makes me lazy and i won’t do my homework because i want to be on my phone. I think this is one of the main reasons i don't do my homework. I need to find something productive to do and not spend a lot of hours on my phone. The way i'm going to try to do this is when i get home i'm going to tell my mom to take away my phone until i'm done doing my homework. After that i can get my phone back . This is going to be a little bit hard because i need my phone. But i'm going to try and maybe it’ll
Technology has taken control of most teenagers of today. Mostly every new inventions that has been invented teenagers have been using and have been controlled or obsessed with it. For example, the Xbox and the Playstation, teens have been playing those two systems since they have been released. They spend hours playing video games day and night and get to obsessed playing with it. Other electronics that have been invented and teens have been using all the time are ipads, the TV and portable video games as well have all been taken control by teens, adults and even kids now spend time play video games or watch tv till their eyes ache of pain. Finally, and probably the most successful and has taken control of many teens today the cell phones. More teenagers everyday are getting too addicted with their cell phones and they also they have been getting a negative influence on themselves. They receive bad influence on social media, places like Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter etc. There are many reasons why social media is a negative influence but
Technology is as much of a distraction as it is an asset. It took me 30 minutes to begin this essay because my phone is right next to me, and I got a text. A single message turned into a full conversation along with an update on multiple social media apps. I was annoyed with my phone because it distracted me from my essay, but how could I stay mad at something so important to me? Without my phone I doubt I could be a functioning adult. I couldn’t have bought my Starbucks this morning, I used the mobile app, and I couldn’t have boarded my plane, my boarding pass was sent to my email, and I couldn’t have called an Uber to get back to school.
The first point I would like to make is that smartphones cause teenagers to lose focus. A research conducted on 8,000 people, by professors of Oxford University, showed that while revising students; with smartphones in comparison to those without ended in an average of lower exam results. Critics may argue that it is possible to put your phone on sleep mode or when you need to revise it can be put somewhere for a certain time for which you couldn’t access it.
One problem with cell phones in today’s society is that they have become major distractions. Cell phones are distracting employees in the workplace and are leaving them with their jobs halfway done. Everywhere in the business industries, the employees are hard at work re-tweeting and catching up on the latest newsfeed rather than managing their time more wisely. Not only are cell phones a distraction in the workplace, they are also a distraction and disruptive in school districts, causing students’ attention to be elsewhere. Many students would rather text in the middle of class instead of pay attention to what the teacher is reviewing. In this case, students do not gain the amount of education provided for them. In addition to cell phones being distracting, people often like to multi-task by walking or driving while texting. These things cause them to be unaware of their surroundings. Texting while driving has become a major issue because texting and driving can lead to car crashes which are often fatal. On the other hand, texting and walking isn’t too bad, but can cause a little bit of embarrassment. There are stories of people walking into walls and bumping into people or tripping over a table because their nose seems to be stuck in their phone. To some, being on their cell phone is more important than grades, clients, and others around them.
Teenagers who use their cellphones very often will have their academic progress negatively affected due to being distracted. It is not a rare occurrence for teenagers to have their phones with them while they are in class, but that is mainly because many of them do not realize the impact it is having on their grades. Researchers, Christian M. End, Shaye Worthman, Mary Bridget Matthews, and Katharina Wetterau at Xavier University did a study about the impact of
Teenagers rely heavily on technology for school, connecting with people, and for their jobs. If technology gets taking away from them, they will not be as productive as they can be without long term use of technology. For example it will take a while for them to catch on to the process of whatever it is that they are trying to do and accomplish with no electronics. Most of teens are forgetting how to use key things to the learning process Which is going threw all k-12th grades with a good education and going into collage. The 21st generation of teenagers are growing up to know less and less about the true learning of schools. It is going to get worse and worse as they grow up and have kids and grandkids.
Teenagers are becoming obsessed with technology. It has become part of their daily lives and although it has its good sides the consequences of this addiction counteract them. Teenagers in-class potential has been considerably diminished, it has changed our social behavior and impacted our mental health.
A normal study time for me would undoubtedly be interrupted by my phone numerous times. I had less distraction which led to getting much more done. Maybe I should start turning my phone off every time I work on school. (Maybe I should listen to my parents and teachers more).
For years we have seen the benefits of the advancement of technology and human life due to science. But can the advancement of technology and human life also be deadly? In the past 100 years we have seen the creation of the atomic and hydrogen bombs as well as advancements in the medical world like the antibiotic Penicillin. Many believe all of these advancements in technology have played God.
Unfortunately, cell phones have become one of the biggest challenges instructors face in college classrooms as these devices have become a pervasive part of young people's lives. What used to only make phone calls and send text messages, now does our emailing, sends us Facebook and Snapchat notifications, and plays music. Additionally, our cell phones are not only used for personal activities, but for school and work life. We want to be reachable in case of an emergency, but the constant stream of notifications has led our productivity to significantly tumble down. Recently, I noticed that in many of my classes, even though the professor says there is a “no phone” policy, many students are scrolling through their social media feeds or responding to a text rather than paying attention to the lecture of the day. I admit to using my phone constantly during class, which often has led my grades to suffer poorly. Rather than paying attention to the lesson, I was checking on buzzing notifications of entertainment news and random trivia. Because I was not listening to my professor earlier in the day, I had a difficult time trying to complete the homework assignment. Thus, in an attempt to be epistemic temperate, for the last two days, I tried to not use my phone during class lectures and study time to measure my productivity.
