Teens Should Be Banned From Smartphones In the movie WALL-E, everyone had been so consumed by technology that they rode around on floating chairs sipping slushies and watching screens. When someone fell out of their chair, robots would come help them and all the other chairs would be detoured around them. As glued to screens as teens are now, it seems at least a bit likely that humanity could end up like that. they think that they need their devices all the time, so when issues occur, they will probably look for a way around it, like riding in chairs with a screen mounted at just the right level so the neck does not have to be bent. Avoiding a world like in WALL-E is not the only reason why teens should have limited smartphone use. People under the age of 18 should be banned from smartphones because …show more content…
The opposition claims that teens under the age of 18 need a smartphone so that they can communicate with their parents about various things(Crowe). However, before smartphones were ever made, people used flip phones to communicate with each other on the go, and they are still available today. Flip phones have limited apps and some can access the web, but with such a small screen who would want to? Also, unless they are out stranded in the middle of nowhere, there is a good chance that there is some sort of phone they can use somewhere near by. The opposition also claims that that teens need smartphones so that they can do their homework anywhere(Crowe). However, most of the tools that a smartphone possesses are available as individual things, such as a calculator, paper, or book. While these items may be harder to carry with you, they only have one purpose and cannot distract a teen for as long as a smartphone would. Teens can clearly go through day to day activities without their
The AVID weekly article says, “Do get on your phone in front of family or friends to look up important, relevant information. This shows that if we do bring in more devices then we can try teach to use phones only when needed. The quote also shows that not all teens use their phones when there is no need for using them. The Scholastic article says, “94% of teens who have a smart phone use it daily.” This quote shows that if we do bring in other devices that it would more likely be easier to use them because teens use their phones so much. The quote also supports that it would less likely happen of someone breaking the devices because so much people would know how to use the devices. The AVID weekly and Scholastic article show that teens use their phones a large amount of time but it can be a good thing and a very bad thing result
To begin with, teens should use their phones wisely by setting a limitation on the times they look at screens everyday. In Twenge’s article, she gives statistical facts from The Monitoring the Future survey, which was funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse and was nationally representative, that “Teens who spend three hours a day or more on electronic devices are 35 percent more likely to have a risk factor for suicide, such as making a suicide plan” (Twenge). Although such instances are extremely rare, they sometimes happen, which thus should be paid attention
Teens should have a cell phone. “ Ten Reasons Why Your Kid Should Have A Cell Phone.” It is a Website Article, and the author is Bonnie Crowe. Teens should have cell phones since They will need a cell phone in a bad situation, also most kids and parents are busy, and having a cell phone will give teens a way to be responsible.
One of the major problems in the world today is the dependency that teenagers have on their cell phones. The majority of people depend on their cell phones for everything that they do. They feel like they have to constantly check it to look at what is new on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. They forget to focus on the world around them and become absorbed in the online world. Some suffer from panic attacks if they don’t have their phone with them. They might not need their phone, but they have to have it with them.
Ever since smartphones were created, they have changed teenagers’ lives entirely. The article Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation? by Jean Twenge, shows the ways the invention of the smartphone has changed recent generations. The article mentions the rise in teen depression and suicide, cyberbullying, and teen safety. It also mentions the decline in our social abilities, dating, and sleep. Smartphones have had both negative and positive affects on teenagers, but the negatives significantly outweigh the positives, which points to the need to put down the smartphones, as the article suggests.
Society is changing rapidly because of the ever changing advancements. Many classes are now online, tests are online, homework assignments are online, and there are apps for everything. Many tasks that were once thought of as strenuous and annoying, can now be done with a couple finger taps. It is incredible how far technology has come, and the present generation has no idea what it would have been like without all of this technology. Technology is continuing to change, and this generation is becoming more adapt to changes. Every year something different changes, and society again has to adapt. It can be hard to adapt sometimes, but this adaptation requires active participation from society, which could explain why adolescents cannot get away from their phones. According to Adam Thierer, adapting to technology is “a learning process, and we humans are good at rolling with the punches and finding new baselines along the way” (Thierer, “Again, We Humans Are Pretty Good at Adapting to Technological Change”). Thierer is right when he says this. Teenagers minds are very pliable, and they are willing to accept new changes. They have not yet gotten to the stubborn stage of their lives, and they can adapt
I feel that this is a relevant issue in this society. Most teens like me are born in a society that is used to electronic devices. Kids that are younger than me are definitely given some sort of device sice they are young. I think some teens are too adicted to their phone. As I read through the article, I noteced the article is dedicated to the fact that teens spend too much time on their phone. I agree with that, but I also think being accicted to a phone is normal. There is a quote in the article by the digital detox expert Holland Hails saying, "Technological addiction can happen to anyone," in her book, she even discribed technology as, "the new 21st century addiction." I strongly agree with these quotes indicating that an technological
First I will start with the cell phone. Majority of teens that have a cell phone probably use their phone as a
Firstly, I disagree with the point that was made saying teenagers should be banned from using smartphones until they are 18. “Remove smartphones from the hands of under-18s and maybe they will grow up to be less dumb.” I feel that it may be too harsh to do so as they are required some form of entertainment which is easily
Phones and computers help us stay connected to the friends and family we might not have been able to stay in contact with without them. Teenagers can learn more about social skills when talking to friends over the phone or computer, and can even meet new friends in different places that have different cultures that they wouldn’t have been able introduced to otherwise. Often times teenagers

People may believe that smartphones are not safe and that they can be deadly. Studies show that there has been an increase in fatalities, from 2010-2016, related to not concentrating on the surroundings while walking. Furthermore teenagers with smartphones, have access to all content on the internet also un-censored segments. On the other hand in order to decrease deaths you could teach how to use a phone responsibly. There are many ways in which you can stop internet misuse one is by using filter settings or blocking content.
When children hit their adolescent years, most of them are given cellular phones by their parents. Parents may think that by providing their young adolescent with a cellular phone it is a form of keeping touch with them at all times. Even though I do not believe this is very responsible of the parents to do because adolescents do not get to build up a sense of self awareness in the dangerous world around them; they seem to lack their sense of direction since the android cellular phones now in days give you the answers to practically everything. From searching the web to always communicating through a text; cellular phones have tethered
Iphones is the phone that is breaking the charts and everyone in the world wants one, but teenagers use them for the wrong reasons such as posting fights or arguing with people they don't even know. Nowadays teenagers don't even go outside anymore, they rather be on there phone on social media sites doing nothing at all. The social media site are just another way to distract kids as well, instead of doing home work they rather be in snapchat or twitter killing there brain and don’t even know it.
Have you ever buried your face in your smartphone for hours? Have you missed out on events or told your friends you couldn’t hang out because you just wanted to stay at home and watch Netflix or play video games?
