There are many arguments to the voting age. Plenty believe that 18 is the right age to start voting, while others feel the voting age should be lowered for younger people. In the United States the legal voting age is 18 years old, the age adolescents are considered legal adults by law. In other places having younger voters is okay. Some people would say that keeping the voting age at 18 may be for the best. My generation doesn't involve themselves into politics and don't participate much in voting. Some people believe that 16 isn't mature or intelligent enough to understand the world around them yet. They think that when it comes to being responsible or having the power to influence who our future leaders will be gives a "child" too
In conclusion, 16-year-olds should be allowed to vote. They are more likely to vote than 18-year-olds. Because of that, help to ease the problem of too few people voting. Also, they already have plenty of adult-like responsibilities, so it is fitting that they should be able to vote. Some people are concerned about the vote being diluted, but seem to be fine with criminals
The voting age should be increased to 19 or 21 years of age. Most 18 year olds have just graduated or are still in highschool, so many of them are immature, and lack life experience. In addition, many 18 year olds do not have a plan(s) after high school, so if they can’t make a decision about their future what makes people think that they can make an informed decision about the future of the country. However, there are some states like Ohio that are allowing seventeen year olds to vote in primaries.
Yes I think that the current voting age of 18 should mantain. The voting age of 18 should maintain because of many reasons. I believe the younger group of people do not put a lot of importance when it comes to politics. Older people tend to worry more about our rights and want the best for their country. Besides according to to the U.S. Census Bureau report, only 38 percent of voters in the 18 - 24 age group voted in 2012. That shows how low the percentage for that age group even bother to vote.
In my position I agree to lower the age of voting to 16-17 years old because it can raise up the percentage of voting. Many people are not voting because they don't believe it can help them and their community also with the support from 16-17 years old, it can show a huge difference on how the votes are increasing little by little. Also it can gives them experience on what's the voting like. Once they get older, they will know what to do because they registered the vote in an
. I personally don't feel the legal voting age should be changed in any way. When an individual turns eighteen they are able to make an informed decision. If the age was to be lowered, I feel the younger voters would be influenced by their parent or other authorative figures the individual looks up to. However, it is shown in "Keeping the Voting Age at 18", that younger voters tend to be less involved in voting. Which shows that if the age was to be lowered, it more than likely wouldn't affect the outcome of the vote. However, if the age was to be lowered, that would create more room for misinformed votes. Which in the long run would affect the outcome of the campaign. I also feel that to vote, one must understand the intentions of the person
The long debate over lowering the voting age in America from 18 to 21 always been a big issue. It began during World War II and became greater intensified during the Vietnam War. That’s when young men denied the right to vote, and they have to fight for their country. There is a big debate about what age you should be able to vote. It’s been a long going issue that nobody has really came up to a conclusion with. I personally think that the voting age should be changed from 18 to 21 because 18 year old are not mature enough, at that age they do not know what and who to vote for, and they have no real world experience.
The legal voting age here in the United States, is 18 years old. It's a considerable time for people to start voting around that time, due to the fact that most 18-year-olds will be out of High School and be entering the real world. The problem with lowering it to, "16 years of age" wouldn't be a wise decision. Due to the fact that High Schools at that age would most likely be entering their Junior Year and would have to focus on their own curriculum. Anothering to note: they wouldn't be mentally ready to have that kind of right. Giving them time to know how politics work and how the real world works, gives them the knoledge to who to vote for and what political party preference they would choose based on the canidate.
If maturity is the issue, it important to take into account that 16 year olds are just as informed as 18 year olds (in some cases more so). In fact there could be many 20, 30, or even 40 year olds who are irresponsible, do not make informed decisions and are clueless; this does not mean we deny them the right vote. Just because they are older necessarily does not mean they know everything in detail about politics because they have more life experience and can make better informed judgements than a 16 year old.
In my opinion, I feel as though the voting age should stay at 18 and not be changed to 21. One of the reasons why the voting age should stay at 18 is because regardless of your age everyone's voice and opinion should be heard and everyone deserves an opportunity to be able to vote. Also if the voting age were to be increased to 21, the participation rate for voting would decrease significantly. Everybody says how important it is to vote so why should 18,19 and 20-year-olds not be included? If the voting age was raised, it would make things worse, and it wouldn't be right for them to not take part in voting for our political future. Many people may underestimate the younger age groups and may not see them as mature enough to take part in voting.
The U.S. needs new fresh minds with everyone they can to vote for our laws. It is unfair for the people that are going to turn 18 while the president is serving without any say in the president that they may strongly disagree with. I believe that the national voting age in the U.S. should be lowered due to the facts that we are required to follow the laws that we have no say in, we have adult responsibilities without the same rights, and there will also be a higher-voting turnout.
In our current generation sixteen has shown to be a reckless, careless, and very low political point of view. I personally belive for sixteen being the age to vote would be a destructive change in the economey. Me being almost eighteen is even hard to have any perspective who should run or city, state, or even country. Therefore I strongley disagree with sixteen year old citizens voting. Being eighteen is a huge diplomatic age for a young man/women. I feel its a privelage earned with time and experiance. Time and experiance to me is very important to be able to vote. To understand and have a open perspective on politics should be an expectation to vote. The age of sixteen is a stressful age. With school, driving, and sports being an everyday
In the most recent election in 2016 only 59% of Americans voted. Many people today see this as a major issue; however, a major argument has risen on how to solve this problem. One of the solutions that have been considered is lowering the voting age to 16 to get younger Americans votes. However many Americans think that this is crazy to allow 16 and 17 year olds to vote. The clear and only answer to this contentious question is that 16 and 17 year olds should not be able to vote. As stated before 16 and 17 year olds should not be allowed to vote because sixteen and seventeen year olds are not mature enough, their opinions can be easily swayed or changed based on what others think, and they are not educated enough on politics in order to vote.
There are many valid opinions towards voting at the age of sixteen. Many believe the voting age should be decreased due to other responsibilities in which many sixteen-year-olds already have, such as being able to drive or being employed. However, some may be against this issue due to the influences a 16 year may encounter when voting, such as voting for who their parents or friends vote for or lacking maturity.
When it comes to the idea of lowering the voter age, I cant say much on experiance. Being I have only had about one chance to vote myself. Though id have to say lowering the voting age to 16 is a huge mistake.
At the age of eighteen the voter would be mature and well educated and more likely to know more information on the subject or able to relate to the situation. As a eighteen year old would relate to the subject is that it would address the voters. As in a thirteen year old would be caught up in sports, discipline, school, out of school activities, clubs. The voting age is set for many reasons. It is set to eighteen for educational, transportation, self reliance, independence purposes.
