The Affordable Care Act Should Improve The Wellbeing Of All Citizens

With the recent elections, the Affordable Care Act has become one of the major talking points amongst the republican majority senate. In their attempts to undermine, what I think is the most beneficial reform to come out of the government in recent years, many people like myself have received the medical insurance that would have been otherwise unavailable. Moreover, with the price of health care as it is today, I would not be able to receive medications and health checkups without going into debt. Although the system at this time is not perfect, it is a move in the right direction because the benefits of universal healthcare will improve the wellbeing of all citizens while increasing productivity in all areas, and provide the security that a person will be able to maintain their health between jobs or even have the ability to become entrepreneurs. Foremost, the healthier a society is, the more productive employees are, which boosts revenue. When an employee’s health is in question, an employer may actually lose 77 percent of productivity, making the loss greater than that of health care expenses. These numbers go up with the combination of lack of exercise, 96 percent loss, and unhealthy eating habits, 93 percent loss, said a study from Brigham Young University, according to an article in a 2012 Education Letter.
