The administrator of the highway department was given a task to find a way to fill more potholes. This program to fill more potholes would decrease the number of complaints in the city and the number of damages to the residents’ cars. To do this, the Highway Administrator implemented a goal-setting program, in hopes this would encourage the workers to fill more potholes. This program sets a standard for each crew to fill a certain amount of potholes per day, no matter the location of where the crew was working. The results will then be posted for all of the crews to observe and compare. As an incentive to fill as many potholes as possible, the crew who filled the largest amount of potholes each week was given a reward. I personally believe …show more content…
The standard set by the highway administrator were that each crew was to fill 20% more potholes than they usually fill on a daily basis. This aspect of the goal is extremely efficient and specific which gives the workers a clear idea of what they need to do at work. If the goal were to simply “fill more potholes than you normally fill” than each crew could fill one more pothole than they normally do and still meet the goal but this would probably not get the work done as fast and it needs to be. This goal is also a clear standard because of the different working conditions each crew operates in. Asking each crew to fill 5 more potholes than normal might prove to be easy for one crew and extremely hard for another, depending on the conditions. Each crew was also given a step-by-step sheet on how to properly fill each pothole. This will make each fill last longer, therefore, making less work for the future.
The feedback that accompanies each goal comes at the end of each week. Feedback is objective information about performance. Motivational feedback serves as a reward and the highway administrator clearly understands that since he is using rewards to drive his employees’ productivity. (Hogue, 2004) Each week, the highway administrator will post performance data on a board for all of the other crews to view. Since there are only rewards and no harsh consequences, this creates friendly competition for each crew. The crew who has the most potholes
The legislation of the state of Arizona is bicameral, with a Senate and a House of Representatives. Each Senator and Representative is elected for a two year term. There is a limitation of four consecutive terms. After serving four terms, they must be out of office for one term before they can be reelected to that office. There are certain qualifications to become a legislator. Those seeking office in the state Senate or House of Representatives must be at least 25 years of age, be a United States citizen, reside in the state for three years prior, and live in the county for one year prior to election. The job of a legislator in Arizona is part time, due to the limited time of the regular session. Their salaries, currently at
The James W. Dalton Highway stretches 441 miles through the Brooks Mountains. Starting just north of Fairbanks and ending just south of the Arctic Sea, the route is frequented by truckers, bringing supplies to oil towns. Coldfoot, Wiseman, and Deadhorse remain the only inhabited places along the road.
The Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956 pushed for transcontinental highways across America to connect the nation in a safer fashion. President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the bill into law to improve “speedy, safe transcontinental travel” through a 40,000 mile interstate highway. Since the Cold War pressured Americans into building the highways, support for their construction grew as they provided quick evacuation routes for cities that could be target areas from the impending threat of the Soviet Union. The Act provided that the federal government would pay 90 percent of the cost for building the highway and the law portioned out $26 billion to pay for the construction. The government collected the money for the construction by increasing the
My spouse was traveling on Highway 68. There was a company called H Ray LLC mowing the side of the road. As my spouse drove, a rock flew out of the mower and hit the vehicle. There is damage to the driver's side door. The third party company is accepting responsibility for the damages to the vehicle.

Recently, a driver was cited in Colorado Springs for careless driving after the woman’s truck went over the median, hit a fire hydrant, and landed on another woman’s car. Amazingly enough, the woman in the car not only survived but did not even need to go to the hospital. The woman driving the truck was transported to the hospital, but her injuries were not life-threatening.
Over time, Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton have been arguing on their views on how to run our nation. Their opposing viewpoints resulted in the emergence of two political parties. One political party was the Federalist, who supported Alexander Hamilton. The second political party was the Democratic-Republicans, who supported Thomas Jefferson. As a member of the cabinet and a fellow American, I would support Alexander Hamilton and the Federalist party. I would support Hamilton because of his view on the economy and foreign policy. To elaborate, I would support the Federalists because of their perspective on the constitution and government. My opponents may say that their views on foreign policy, economy, government, and the constitution
The regulation that will be discussed in this week’s assignment is the Federal-Aid to Highways Act of 1956 found in the e-book: American Transportation Policy. The reason that I have chosen to cover this topic is because this was the start of the development of the highway systems that we are familiar with today. The Federal Highway Act of 1956, in fact, was a bill that was very important with introducing a framework for highways and was done during the Eisenhower presidency.
Jerry Johnson is the site manager at a Department of Transportation (DOT) customer service office, where nine other employees also work. Mary Marshall, a former employee at that particular office of the DOT has reported to our office, the OIG of the DOT, that Jerry Johnson has been devoting his attention to his own personal things, such as engaging in “church work” and “political work” while on government time from the DOT.
Feedback- This area refers to the ongoing information that employees receive in the performance of their jobs. At my job, we receive feedback, letting us know that we exceeded the standards for call wait times or if we have not met this standard. Feedback also goes back to the management in that they become aware of the situations.
“I gripped the reed and wires and waited for the miracle. Finally it came, at first a tiny light that flickered from my palm, then a surging magnificent glow. The crowd gasped and shuddered.” (Kamkwamba, 2). William cannot be described with only three traits, but I will try my best. In the book, William shows perseverance, ingenuity, and resourcefulness. The fact that he could take an idea and create a source of energy is astonishing. Even through the famine and through doubt his peers, he managed to create a masterpiece.

On January 21st, 2009, Barack Obama stepped up to the podium after millions upon millions of people chanted his name. It was the first time that an African-American took office as the President of the United States. He presented a historic message of hope and change for the future of the United States of America, given that it was a change of presidency in those excruciatingly unideal times. During his inaugural address, he had to state the most important issues that America was currently facing at the time and his plans on fixing those issues to the American public. He reassures the public about the changes that he was planning to employ within his presidency by contrasting different ideas, emphasizes America’s issues and his solutions through anaphoras and varying sentence structure, and convinces the American public that he is capable of addressing America’s issues through his use of strong diction.

In an article from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management [OPM] (n.d.) it stated that “without feedback, you 're walking blind, at best, you 'll accidentally reach your goal, and at worst, you will wander aimlessly through the dark, never reaching your destination.” Feedback is a critical element in a managers “toolbox” when evaluating employees. It gives an employee a view of how good or bad their previous performance was and what or if they need to improve in their performance. It also reduces
