English has undergone some changes in relation to its status in the world. Some years ago, it only became the first or second language for several countries. Nowadays, alongside with the development of information, communication, and technology the status of English becomes a lingua franca in the world. That is, a language that is used as a means of communication between people with different language. This change, of course, brings some impacts in the roles of English as a language. English is not seen as a language for identity anymore. Yet, it functions mainly as a means of communication. Added to this, the change of the English status as a lingua franca will also impact to the educational sector especially in English Language Teaching (ELT). With regard to this issue, this paper tries to present the notion of English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) and its implication to the teaching learning process especially in Indonesian context.

This report will focus on how Thailand and United State associate and differentiate with one another.Government systems play a really important part in a country because it is how the people of the country lives upon it, and it keeps stability in society, without it there’d be so much chaos and the people of the country wouldn’t know how to settle down.
Non-native language particularly English, which is a Lingua franca- a language that is adopted as a common language between speakers whose native languages are different, is often preferred to native language in the medium of instruction in higher education in many places like Hong Kong and Singapore, according to Interim report April 2014 of “English as a medium of Instruction – a growing Global phenomenon: phase 1” by British Council and University of Oxford mentioned in the Week 11 lecture PowerPoint. This essay will argue that English should be adopted as the medium of language in tertiary education, and it is supported by the discussion of the pros and cons of using non-native language in tertiary education in the perspective of students and university
Let’s take a vacation to Thailand! Being the adventurous person I am I always love to go explore new places with friends and family. This year we’ve decided to go to Thailand and I can’t wait. I decided I wanted to bring along my mom and my friend Hailey for some girl fun. I didn’t know much about Thailand so I had to do research fast since we’re leaving May 15th and coming home the 21st. Thailand is a country in the Southeast part of Asia. It is split up into two different sections, the Northern part which is the main part, and a smaller peninsula that is an extension to the Southern part. Their climates are rainy and warm since they are in the Monsoon climate zone. During May it is expected to be rainy, and sunny with a high of 89 degrees and a low of 77 degrees. Thailand is filled with big, beautiful mountains that in the North and South form the Himalayas According to Map Fight Thailand is two times the size of Michigan.
Our company, Corbion, the world’s largest manufacturer of biodegradable plastic products, has decided to expand our operations into the Asian Pacific area primarily for access to raw materials and ease of distribution to our larger customers in that region of the world. Our main raw material is sugar which when processed produces monomers and polymers with a base of lactic acid that are used to fabricate our plastic products. Our major markets are food packaging, medical industry supplies, and plastics used in the production of electronic goods. After much research and careful consideration we have decided to open a plant in Rayong, Thailand. Thailand emerged as a key location due to its strengths in matured infrastructure, IT, and communication systems. The Thai government is very friendly to foreign investors and provides simplified import and export regulations. Rayong in particular is a seaport with well-established transportation routes to Southern China where some of our biggest customers are located. Thailand also provides a pool of highly skilled workers at a low cost.
The language used around the world is evolving. Currently, English language is spreading globally and it has received a world recognition. According to Schneider (2007), English is the world’s lingua franca as it is being used internationally and exclusively as the language of politics, trade and the internet. In some countries such as Nigeria and Singapore, English has become a local language in which it is used in their daily communication (Schneider, 2007). Thus, this shows that English has expanded and can develop into homegrown forms. In Brunei, there are several languages being used. However, the most common languages are Standard Malay, Brunei Malay and English. Standard Malay is the official language whereas Brunei
With the rapidly development of English, English becomes a lingua franca in the world. English language is spoken by over1.5billion people around the world (“Mufwene, S.”, 2010). Non-native speakers are far outnumber of native-English speakers which means that many people who come from different backgrounds and different native language are using English as a common language for communication(“Mufwene, S.”, 2010). In other words, English have an important position today; it affects more and more people use it as a common channel for communication or in the aspect of sharing academic information. However, although English has many advantages, it is threatening to the position of other languages in the world, for example, some languages are facing
In this research, I’m going to focusing on the English as a language is being taught in many countries oversea today including Thailand. In fact, you’ll be surprising to know that English is required for many of the students in many countries. Unfortunately, it is not necessarily taught as well as it could be because of heavy teaching load, class sizes and adequate technology. Learning an English today still's has been challenging for many countries and specifically in Thailand. In Thailand, the student often gets too overwhelmed with English and mentally tune out in the classroom because English was their least favorite subjects. On the other hand, the students don’t have a resource at school or they don’t have it enough. Furthermore, many students just go to English class and switch back to Thai as soon as they out of school. English isn't used locally in Thailand. Although, there still a lot students continue care about English language because English has been the most ordinarily utilized language internationally and the language of traffic control and the majority of academic journals. It’s the most common language on the internet and the language that travelers use to communicate with different native speakers.
