Textual analysis: The text is a poster from the movie “THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN” as it follows the principle structure of a poster used to promote and advertise the movie. The writer is trying to capture the attention of youngsters and people who like to watch movies to fulfill the purpose of the text. This poster was made by the writer in around 1957 as mentioned in the text type below the poster; implying that the poster was published in the era of 1960s. Also, keep in mind the dressing style of characters; shows it is from past. The use of stylistic feature, tone, and mood of the poster help the audience to interpret the context and the unique story of the movie. The poster depicts that the movie is about a person who encountered a weird mist which is making him shrink every day. As his body is shrinking movement by movement he is going through huge terror. This brief story is creatively presented in the poster by the use of stylistic features. The structure and flow of the poster are very suttle and straightforward. It has an ongoing flow of how the audience should read the poster. Beginning with the tagline then comes the comic strip which describes the story of the movie then the headline (movie title). The poster is trying to mention that movie is incredible and unique from …show more content…
The writer is trying to convey horror because the poster mentions “as the person shrinks simultaneously the TERROR MOUNTS. The atmosphere created for the audience is threatening and scary, due to the background, by few words like “Terror, deadly spider attacks!” and the visual features creates horror. The structure of the foreground helps to identify that it is a comic strip, use of the black and white picture in series with a phrase written at the bottom of each
First, the swastika symbol which to me represents the time Hitler took over who was a Nazi. Second, the skull and crossbones when I see that in this particular poster I think of death. Thirdly, the little boy who has blonde hair and blue eyes. Now during World War 2 when Hitler was in power he was out to make the master race which include blonde hair and blue eyes. So the little boy would have lasted a long time during the war. And the fourth thing I notice is the scene in the background. The scene in the background looks to me like a war zone with the fire in the right-hand corner and or the buildings that had fallen to the ground.
Alan Hopgood’s “And the Big Men Fly” is a written comedic play about a country farmer named Achilles Jones, who is recruited to play for the West Melbourne Football Club. His character’s development allows Achilles to be a key player for the football team, though he never has any passion for the VFL. In the novel, Achilles has represented Australian stereotypes of a typical country person almost exactly through never traveling far from his farm and by always appearing dumb and uneducated. In addition to the stereotypes, his character only tends to enjoy the simple aspects of life.
The second poster features a map of Australia with all of the capital cities labelled in blue. These labels are crossed out in red and replaced with “New Germany” instead of “Australia” and the cities have been replaced with German names for cities. This is giving the viewer an idea of what Australia will become if Germany wins the war. The slogan reads “Australians Arise! Save
Despite the subject of the ad obviously being the product itself, the brand makes the unique decision of avoiding all text and making the Hulk’s sinewy arms the visual focus of their ad. This rhetorical tactic is surprisingly effective, because along with automatically gaining attention due to the inclusion of the Avenger, with the lack of written information put on the ad, a viewer is forced to examine the poster longer, simply to understand the angle the brand is attempting to take in order to sell their product.
Everyone has dreams, big and small. When one dreams, there is a scent of whimsical hope in the air mixed with the powerful drive for success to obtain their luminous goals. But, many times these luscious dreams end up in grief and pain instead of a promised joy due to the hurdles in life, such as the certain circumstances that society professes or the flaws in a person that restrains them from their aspirations. The writer, John Steinbeck, incorporates this ideology in his novella, Of Mice and Men by creating three pivotal characters. Lennie, Crooks, and George all have schemes that go wrong, and yet hope to illustrate their desires of fulfilling their American Dream and to be prosperous for their own independent purposes.
Objectively, the 91x 73.5 centimeter abstract shows what can be perceived as a human like figure. The figure appears to be positioned on a ramp, evocative of a bridge of some sort. The figure can be interpreted as emotionally unstable, as it exhibits a facial expression and hand placement that mimics that of one screaming, as the title implies. The figure’s ghostly eyes are wide open as well as the figure’s mouth. The face appears very extremely clammy and pale. There appears to be two other
The idea of double consciousness, termed by W.E.B. Du Bois, for African Americans deals with the notion that one’s self has duality in being black and American. It is the attempt to reconcile two cultures that make up the identity of black men and women. One can only see through the eyes of another. A veil exists in this idea, where one has limits in how he or she can see or be seen. This individual is invisible to the onlookers of the veil, and those onlookers may be invisible to the individual. This then alters how one can truly interpret their conscious. This concept is one that has been explored in various themes of literature,
This is a representation of the coldness of the character that is behind the window, and is blurred within the fog. The use of mise-en-scene is also used in the background that you can see behind the window which is of a forest. This is determined by the clustered trees that are crowded behind the character at the front. This is a cliche in horror films as it is a setting that a lot of horror films use, as a forest is a place that has a creepy atmosphere when dark and is a vulnerable place to be, as it is unrecognizable to you. The use of lighting is used to silhouette the character, this makes her the main focus of attraction. It also blocks out any view of anything else behind them and therefore forcing the viewer to look at the character. This is effective in asserting the audience that this is a horror film. The last use of mise-en-scene that is used in order to make it more bright and to make it stand out is the use of costume. The use of costume isn't fully focused on this poster but it is helpful in finishing off the full image of the atmosphere that it is trying to create. The T-shirt is dirty and torn, which can represent a struggle that it took for the character to come this way.
During the day time, the wallpaper appears to be "hideous enough, and unreliable enough, and infuriating enough, but the pattern is torturing” (Page 16). The above description paints a rebarbative mood for the readers. In contrast, during the night time it seems like there is "a woman stooping down and creeping about behind that pattern"(page 13) and the “woman behind it is as plain as can be” (Page 16). A mysterious and unknown figurine vividly portrays an eerie and gloomy mood for the readers. Through the altering appearance of the wallpaper through day and night, the mood of the story is able to change greatly according to
2. The poster has both denotation and connotation signs. The movie title is on the top part of the movie poster in black and white. This indicates a big plot of the movie where white people ‘get’ into the black people’s bodies and black people are ‘out’ of control of their bodies. Underneath the title, there are some sentences saying, “Just because you are invited, doesn’t mean you are welcome.” This explains
The movie poster that I have chosen is Maleficent, produced by Walt Disney and is released in year 2014. Movie poster is very important as it is considered as an advertisement for a particular movie. With containing the powerful visual elements of the movie such as the famous actors, movie title and attractive image, it can easily grab the audience’s attention. Some of the movie posters may include the main actor’s name as well. These visuals are vital to convey impactful messages to the audience and persuade them to watch. Maleficent is an example of using actress’s name to attract audience. The main actress name, Angelina Jolie is written in an elegant and simple black capital letters in serif typeface and is placed in upper part of the poster.
Friendship and companionship play a big role in people 's life and how they interact with others, and the world in general. How people build relationships is something that will stick with them for the rest of their lives. The less relationships that people build, the more lonely, and self-kept they become. Throughout the book Of Mice and Men, George, and Lennie are examples of the positive effects on building relationships, and Crooks is an example of the negative effects on not building relationships. Crooks represents loneliness, and not building relationships. George and Lennie represent dependence on one another, and an example of how to build a strong bond/relationship. Throughout the book Of Mice and
The beginning of the film also used a shot that had a variety of newspaper headings with someone flipping through the newspapers in order for the audience to see all the headings. This has been repeated in many movies since, but now it is done digitally with fancy effects like the papers spinning.
The two pages begin with a frame where Art Spiegelman as the cartoonist (we know it is the Art as the cartoonist, partly due to the scene, but also in great part due to the use of masks rather than the complete animal metaphor used throughout the rest of the novel) is being interviewed by a pair of dogs, as specified earlier, signifying Americans. The characters are standing upon this pile of mice corpses with flies buzzing around them. As the frames continue, Art Spiegelman is further accosted by different groups of people. Following the dogs, a man wearing a cat mask begins to interview Art about the criticism he has been receiving in Germany. After the man in the cat mask, a person in a mouse mask asks him about Israel. Following the person in the mouse mask, another person appears in a mask that is trying to make a business offer, but the type of animal that is represented is indistinguishable. Also in this frame, the image of Art begins to shrink as he sits in the chair. In the following two final frames on the first page continue, Art's image shrinks even further until he is the size of a small child. It is even seen that he is acting like a small child as he begins to cry. On the next page the frames begin again, but all the people that were previously interviewing him have disappeared. However, in the corner of the first frame, there is a fly still buzzing around. Then in the next frame, Art makes further commentary about
Movie posters are meant to capture the audience’s interest and reel them into going to the movie they are each individually presenting. Some posters do their job in catching the audience’s attention and some just don’t create any interest. Whether it creates interest from the audience or not mainly depends upon the visual aspects of it. These aspects include alignment, repetition, contrast, balance, direction, color, and font. Other aspects that most posters try to achieve that aren’t necessarily visual are appealing to the audience, showing the purpose, and staying on the right side of ethics. Also most of all movie posters contain the aspects of ethos, pathos, and logos.
