We call them because we trust that they know how to handle confrontational situations properly. It is what they get paid to do and we should expect nothing but the best professional service. In some cases people can become police officers after about 8 months of training. We should require longer and more in depth training of our officers to ensure that this is the right job for them.

As of today police officers are under constant scrutiny because of the way some officers might handle a situation under a moment of distress. Furthermore, because of one officer the public assumes that every officer acts this way when in fact they do not. To sum it all up a police officer once told me that people do not hate you the individual they hate the badge. This hate can grow from a simple ticket and individual gets for speeding. Nonetheless, officers must remain calm, respectful, and willing to put their lives on the life in the face of those who hate them. They do this every day and they take pride in the fact they get to save lives.

Policemen not only have to follow a set of rules and legislation, but they also must behave in a decent manner while on duty as well as off duty. Unfortunately, nobody is perfect, and police officers also make wrong decisions that could jeopardize the integrity of their police department. Often people do something that they know is wrong. However, they still do it because they feel no harm will come to them or they think nobody would ever find out. For instance, cheating on a test is wrong, but people do it because they think they can get away without the professor finding out.

Lack of training and policing standards are closely linked to the myriad problems bedeviling police work, especially in small departments (Brodeur, 2010). All over the country, police departments report cases of officers being caught in uncompromising and unprofessional situations, resulting in disciplinary actions such as redeployment, suspension or sacking. These cases of unprofessionalism have led to questions being asked about policing, occasioned by recurring series of questionable and controversial encounters with police officers (Brodeur, 2010). The consequence of such encounters is increasing public distrust in law enforcement agencies.

In the Senate, the votes were 40 to 2, and in the House of Representatives it was 174 to 14. “Restless spirits, discontented at home … joined them ….” (Document D, Paragraph 3) Though the Mexicans were the first to start the war, the Americans had a play in it too. There are many different perspectives on the Mexican War, and many people wonder if it was reasonable or not. One opinion is that the United States was unjustified in going to war with Mexico because America robbed Mexico, invaded Mexican territory, and took advantage of Mexico’s offers.

With the 2016 Presidential Election taking place in just under a year, the media has been thoroughly focusing on our nation's issues and the hopeful candidates, particularly republican candidate Donald Trump. Trump is a well known business magnate who has taken the nation by surprise as he has continuously lead the GOP polls despite the fact that the attention Trump has received has been primarily negative. The success of Donal Trump's run for president thus far is truly implausible as Trump's inappropriate racist and sexist comments have overrun the news for months. The United States is a far-from-perfect nation and Donal Trump is openly contributing to the abiding social issues of racism and sexism the nation has dealt with for centuries;

It is an early Saturday morning. It’s the first day of the academy and an officer already yelling at you saying “ Who told you you could be a cop?”. Heart beats fast from being nervous and not knowing to expect next. These people have chosen to put their life at risk; but say it’s a worthy cost because they say “we protect, we serve”.

They are sworn to maintain high ethical standard and protect, serve and make society safer as a condition of their employment. Each office is then issued a badge which is used to identify whether a person is a law enforcement or not. The badge is a symbol of integrity, having integrity means being totally honest and truthful in every part of life, personally and professionally (International Association of Chiefs of Police, 2000). But do all officers uphold these requirement? Absolutely not! Oakland, CA. 2009. Oscar Grant was shot dead by Bay Area Rapid Transit law enforcement officer Johannes Mehserle, age 27. Officer Mehserle and other police officers had been responding to reports of a fight, and arrested and handcuffed Oscar Grant, age 22, and several others in a subway station. Mr. Grant was handcuffed, unarmed and lying on the ground when Officer Mehserle pulled out his gun and shot him in the back. In court Mehserle claimed he thought his gun was his Taser. He was sentenced to two years in jail and let out on parole in June 2011. This is another example of police misconduct/brutality. Not only should the offices be criminally charged but also force to pay any settlement out of their pockets for their wrongdoing. Taxpayers like myself are paying millions of dollars in lawsuits resulting from police brutality, misconduct, wrong convictions,

One must wonder if the "war on drugs" helps or hinders our American Criminal Justice System when you look at the overwhelming impact it has had on crowding issues within our prisons. At the present time there are over 1.5 million people in prison, 59.6 % for drug offenses alone.

Although police officers take an oath to protect and serve citizens in our society. we have some officers that our corrupt and willing do anything just to protect themselves from being exposed from their unethical behavior. In 1994 three officers from New Orleans police department committed an unspeakable crime murder for hire and a violent drug gang. The killing of Kim grove was thirty-two years old and was gunned down by police officer that were there to protect her instead they killed her.

No matter where law enforcement officers are they should maintain their professionalism. For instance, it does not make a good impression on the public if an officer is off duty and out with his buddies at a bar getting drunk and belligerent. If other patrons know he?s a police officer, it damages his reputation and public image as well as the department he works for. Police should also always be careful of what they say. You never know who could be listening. Perhaps a co-worker?s wife stopped in at the department store for something and another officer made crude comments that were over- heard by the wife. Not only is an incident like that downright rude and unprofessional, it could also be interpreted as harassment. Police officers must realize that they are expected by the community to maintain a level of integrity that others are not held to. This off-duty behavior could be misread as the officer being insincere about his job when on duty.

The criminal justice system is made up of many fundamentals. Officers need to go through a variety of procedures in the hiring process, and once completed they need to go through a training academy. Many U.S. citizens have witnessed a broken criminal justice system throughout the years. Citizens observe officers causing a huge attempt of corruption. Corruption is occurring worldwide and is making our law enforcement system look unprofessional. Our criminal justice system is not all fully corrupted; only certain individuals are. Police get engaged with certain individuals and get brained wash with the mentality of doing the wrong choices and not getting caught because they know how the system works. The majority of law enforcement officers are competent, honest, professional, but there are some that use their license to steal and/or kill. Some police officers are involved with drug trafficking, involving innocent people with crimes, and causing harm to our society.

Police officers are often viewed as oppressors and unjust by the community, when in reality they are just doing their jobs. The job of a police officer is to apprehend criminals and detect crime, and the maintenance of public order and to the extend and complication of this duty police officers often need to make split second decision that is not often view by the public as what we call “self-defense” which is a right we all have as human beings and stated in the Universal Declaration of

Becoming a police officer is not just a choice one makes, but in actuality a life decision. Officers must make sure they follow morals as well as the code of ethics. No matter if you’re an officer that patrols the city streets night after night, or an officer patrolling school grounds or malls, you’re still important. Everyone feels a sense of comfort when they know they are safe.
