After watching the video Secrets of China's Terracotta Warriors English documentary, I learned that there was so much history behind the Terracotta warriors. These clay statues were made for the first emperor Qin Shi Huang funeral as a more humane way to follow ancient Chinese tradition without killing off your court. Reasons, why they started making Terracotta warriors, is because in ancient Chinese history when an emperor is having a funeral they would take their court and useful people with them by making then drink arsenic wine. Crazy enough many people at that time would think following your emperor to death is an honor. Even though people would follow the emperor willingly to death it was still viewed as an inhuman thing. Later

With Peiper engaged in the north, von Manteuffel’s 5th Panzerarmee brought good news to the German army when they broke through the US 106th Division. The 5th army had forced 7,000 allied men to surrender the following day after breaking through. Down south, the 58th and 47th Panzer Corps each made great progress to their goals of Hoffalize and Bastogne. The US First Army HQ needed to be moved because the 6th Panzerarmee was only a few miles away. The 47th Panzer Corps reached Bastogne on December 19, however, so did the Allied forces, the 101st Airborne Division. Back north, the 30th Division was sent to reinforce the 99th division at Stavelot. The two divisions were able to separate Battle Group Peiper from the rest of the German army, with the help of air attacks, and they began to force them to retreat. By December 24, they had completely run out of fuel. The group was forced to abandon their trucks and tanks and walk back through the Ardennes Forest.
An important theme in The Wednesday Wars is to being compassionate is an critical to a healthy friendship which is supported by three examples in the book: The first example is when Danny Humfer stands up for Holling when Mickey Mantle wouldn't give him a signed baseball. The second example is when Holling helps his sister get home, the last example is when Meryl Lee is crying when Holling brings her cokes. When Holling went to get a baseball signed by Mickey Mantle he is devastated because Mickey Mantle won't sign him one. Then Danny steps up to the plate and shows some compassion toward Holling. "Danny Humfer who stepped up to the table and slowly placed his baseball-- his baseball signed by Mickey Mantle-- back in front of the greatest baseball
The attitude of the Japanese was a major influence in and for the battle on the Kokoda Trail. The Japanese wanted to take Port Moresby by the Owen Stanley range to isolate Australia from Britain and America. But the Japanese overestimated the strategic importance of Port Moresby as the other major Japanese bases were too far south to provide adequate protection to the other major bases. The overestimating of the strategic importance of Port Moresby also meant that the Japanese forces committed themselves to what they wanted to avoid, a time consuming operation with uncertain supply lines, inadequate forces and difficult
Chapter 3. 24. The terra-cotta figures near the Qin First Emperor’s burial mound demonstrate the
This was also a very important time for the emperor. He believed there was much slander that existed so a man by the name of Lisi burned all the negative information that anyone had, or was out, about the Emperor (McKay, 186). When this emperor died, he installed Terra Cotta warriors in his specialty tomb to have them protect him into the afterlife. The Qin State finally fell apart in 210 after the death of the first emperor and failed to make an impact after.
Often, in a morally ambiguous culture, ideologies contradict one another—however, the basis of cultural values merge these various beliefs into one cohesive creed. Throughout The Tain, ideals of the morally ambiguous culture of Ireland present the considerations of its citizens and the characteristics which possess value to them. Many of the heroes, who manage to leave behind a legacy strong enough to appear in The Tain, demonstrate themselves as worthy heroes who represent principles that the Irish hold dear. However, the two heroes, Cuchulainn and Ferdia, display the moral vagueness of Irish values and epitomize the cultural standards during the time of the epic in the greatest sense. These foster brothers, trained under the same
As emperor, Qin Shi Huang reorganized the bureaucracy, abolishing the existing nobility and replacing them with his appointed officials. He also built a network of roads, with the capital of Xianyang at the hub. In addition, the emperor simplified the written Chinese script, standardized weights and measures, and minted new copper coins.

The Once Were Warriors is beautifully and powerfully casted film, directed by Lee Tamahor and casted by Temuera Morrison (Jake Heke), Rena Owen (Beth Heke) and Mamaengaroa Kerr-Bell (Grace Heke). Jake is a man with high temper and his unpredictability in a number of issues is most fear-provoking thing concerning him. In many occasions, Jake play the character of the friendly, beer-swilling crowd as he plays his guitar and sing favorite songs to all, particularly in wee hours of the night with his drunken friends. But his true colors are revealed when a person crosses his line, he can pounce in blink of a second, with fury boiling over.
The officers took note that Ender seemed happier after the letter. Graff had prepared rigged battles for Ender, so see how he would deal with them. Ender was taken to his new quarters as a commander. He got an army named “Dragon Army”, which was said to lose 2/3 of their battles. After meeting up with his troops and organizing everyone into their bunks, they all headed to the battle room. He taught them how to fight in a different style, where they used their knees as shields and orientate themselves so the door would be downwards. During the session, Ender picked on a small kid named Bean. Ender gave the kid a similar treatment to how Graff treated him. Bean demanded a toon, and Ender gave him his standards and expectations on how to be
According to Blau and Springer (1995), gene therapy is a newly rising approach at the end of the 20th century and aims to open new door for the treatment of various human diseases based on transfer of genetic materials to cells. The recent gene therapy research has focused on treating individuals by targeting the therapy to body cells such as bone marrow or blood cells. This type of gene therapy is not inherited and thus it cannot be passed down on to a person’s children in the future. Meanwhile, gene therapy could also be targeted to egg and sperm cells (knowns as germline gene therapy) which would allow the inserted gene to be passed on to the progeny. Germline gene therapy allows the correction of disease-causing
During early dynasty Egypt period, Egypt’s kings were reverted as gods in human form. So, Egyptian sculptor created statues of their kings and queens. After creating the statue
Sayre the author says, “The Buddha is the most extensive collection of large-scale sculptures in the world and can be found an hour north of New York City in the lower Hudson Valley at Storm King Art Center (“A World of Art”). Zhang seems to like the traditional aspects of chinses culture, because he re-used an ash material form other artists, to create his own sculpture. The techniques he used to create the sculpture is casting, assemblage, and construction. Without using these three additive techniques of sculpting, the artwork wouldn’t have been fragile, and not overwhelming in size. The subject of the “three Legged-Buddha” is another conflict with the governmental rules and regulations, and it has drawn a lot of attention due to its strong message that it conveys. When I initially examined the art piece for the first time, it looked like a huge dismantled, three legged human figure. I thought it was a symbol for keeping your body in better shape over your mind. The most amazing part of the sculpture is how extremely large it is compared to the electrocution sculpture. After reading and interpreting the sculpture it struck me that it was made for ceremonial gathering, where incense placed and burned from inside of the sculpture, and pours out of the head. I think that the artist was trying to involve the visitors in his sculpture. Since Zhang Huan
Anyone that is well situated into the world of literature knows of the literacy genius Edgar Allen Poe. Most of Poe’s works do not have the slightest bit of joy or happiness in them. His literature mainly consists of a dark and gothic mood; mostly due to the fact that his actual life was worse than his stories. For those who have read a few of his stories or poems you might notice a similarity in plot. In his works“ The Cask of Amontillado,” “ The Black Cat,” and “ The Tell-Tale Heart,” there is clear similarity of plot between the three stories.
