Teenagers Are Increasing The Driving Age

In the article by Donna St. George titled, ‘’Teens Are in No Rush to Drive,” she writes about teenagers who have been waiting to obtain their driver's licenses. They have more activities to do. Parents shuttle their kids a lot and drive them everywhere that there used to be driven everywhere. There’s enough technology people don't need to meet their friend to talk to them they can just obtain on the internet and text them. There are new laws requiring more hours to have safer drivers. The driving school is expensive and some parents can't afford it. Gas and insurance also are very expensive.

Many people think that the driving age should be moved up to age 18 or 21 for teenage drivers in the U.S. I believe that that idea is a futile idea and will not be very effective.

Due to safety concerns, many states across the country have increased the age at which teenagers are able to start driving. The state legislature is considering raising the minimum age from 16 to 18, which is a legal adult. This situation has been a huge debate for many years mainly between teens and older adults. However, there’s more reasons why the age shouldn’t change.

I understand that individuals want the driving age to be raised. Sixteen-year-olds can be very irresponsible and immature. Once I turned 16 years old I started learning the basic rules of the road and driving. I was learning many things without even having to get on the road before I was ready. I was taught by my parents whom which have been driving for 20 years and more with a license. I had to learn the basic fundamentals of how to be responsible for myself and others before getting on the road with other drivers. Once I got enough practice I was driving on the road with supervision until I was able to handle driving on my own. Of course I had restrictions on where I can go and what time I have to be back by. The restrictions didn’t even have to be by law it could be from parents as well. But coming from someone that has been driving for about a year now I believe the driving age should not be raised.

Should people be driving at age 16? I think that they should and here’s the reason why. The reason that they have so many accidents is because they don’t have that much experience. The number of age doesn’t mean nothing, and all your doing is identifying the age of the driver. There are many things that people consider to reduce teen accidents.

The driving age should resume to stay at 16, because high school is the time you need to start learning how to be independent as a young adult. This teaches the young adults at an early age, really big responsibilities that they will need to learn also in the long run. There will be times that you won't have anyone to drive you to a certain place that you need to be based on circumstances. By the time you are 18, you are considered an adult by then. Furthermore, teens that are getting their license are doing it for a reason, most of them need that license to help with their lives. Everyday having something to do after school, teens need to get around town in their car. Almost everyone by this age has a job after school or at some point has had a job. They can’t ask their parents to take them to work, because again most of them have jobs that work well into the night, so they need a means of transportation which is why they want a license. “Teens practice driving for many hours. It’s one of the top reasons for getting a license which is their part time job and getting task done for their parents. Magnet or ib students can take 30-minute-long car drives just to reach school, they can’t take the bus because that’s just way out of their jurisdiction. The driving age should be lowered to 14 or 15 years old because people should know how to drive a vehicle by then.People need the experience it will improve their driving skills before they get older and it will make it easier for tennagers to get to school and to their job because it will make them understand responsibility.
