“Your mind is everything what you think you become.”― Buddha. After watching a TED TALKS video recently by Stanford Professor Carol Dweck on mindsets, I took a mindset assessment and it made me think about that my mind is everything what I think I can become. Maybe after taking the mindset test you start to understand what your mood is and how you do in life and in school and education you know if you have a fixed mindset or a growth mindset. After watching the Ted Talks video I took a mindset quiz. After taking the mindset quiz it explained my mindset and how I feel about learning and doing work.
For example, I had a homework assignment in reading in 4th grade and I didn’t want to do it because it made me feel like it was too much work.
A growth mindset can help a person achieve goals that they once thought impossible. However, most people in the world are plagued with a fixed mindset. A fixed mindset is when you believe that intelligence is fixed and no amount are hard work can change that. Those with fixed mindsets believe that some are naturally intelligent whereas others are simply not. On the flipside, those with growth mindsets believe that through persistence and determination, a person can increase their capabilities.
The overall theme of the sources we studied was about growth mindset. The most important thing about growth mindset is that intelligence can be developed. Also, the brain can grow by hard working and practicing. In “You Can Grow your Intelligence,” the author maintains that contrary to the belief that a person is born either smart, average, or dumb, instead the brain is more like a muscle, it changes and get stronger when you use it. Lastly, Carol Dweck, in a Ted Talk titled “ The Power Of Believing That You Can improve,” narrates how she researches about the growth mindset and the fixed mindset, and the benefit of having a growth mindset. Also, in her video she gave many good advice of how you can change a person that have fixed mindset to a growth mindset.
Many studies about the brain prove that people normally are divided in two types of mindset and these can affect the personal life of people in a negative or positive way. The wirier Lisa Trei in her article, “New study yield instructive results on how mindset affects learning” asserts that the people with a fixed mindset always feel fear of making mistakes and for that reason they do not improve and are not able to change. Also Trei states people with a growth mindset don’t have problems making mistakes, and see this as a new learning opportunity. In the article, “You can Growth your Intelligence” by Lisa Blackwell she gets that the brain is able to growth and get stronger with the phrase “the brain is like a muscle”. The growth mindset is defined by effort and challenges, people that want do more in their life’s and the fixed mindset is equal to excuses and conformist, people that don’t take risks and never change because they feel fear of do any mistake.
This shows that having a good mindset is important for success because those with a growth mindset are more likely to try new things, which leads to developing new skills. Having a growth mindset is like traveling to a place you have never been before. Additionally, the author adds that if you can figure out that you have a fixed mindset, you can change it. Being in a fixed mindset can be very challenging for people. This is why people can change their mindset.
If I was going to college next year I would want to have a personal class about sports and athletes. The video made Monsters University look like a good college. It looked like the students had a lot of freedom when it came to choosing classes and clubs .I think a lot of people should go here because of they much more choices. You could probably even create your own club if you don’t like the choices
I believe a growth mindset starts with an open mind. It starts with the willingness to open up to new ideas and new ways of thinking. It is the ability to view a goal in different perspectives in order to determine the best way to approach it, work at it and achieve it. With the growth mindset, you can liberate your mind from the doors you have closed on yourself and reopen them to see where they will take you.
I will have negative self-talk that keeps me in the perspective that I cannot do better with practice or by studying for the exam. I would tell myself things such as “You can’t learn that much information.” This shows fixed mindset, because I felt as though I had nothing new to learn and couldn’t change my fate. This would cause to want to take easier courses the next semester. The same is for growth mindset when I feel confident in my abilities when taking an exam. I feel that I have taken the initiative to do well and want to challenge myself. This also helps me to feel motivated to try new opportunities. Last semester I had three jobs while taking 15 credits. I learned a lot about myself and am proud by the obstacles I
Regardless of what your mindset is at this moment, the most important thing for you to know - and accept - is that your mindset is not carved in stone. Your mindset is what YOU choose to operate with. You have the power to be the person you want to be by choosing to think from that particular perspective. This is the essence of mindset... this is where you decide who you are going to be AND how you are going to do it.
By reading the book Mindset: The New Psychology of Success people are able to determine if they are fixed-mind set or growth mind set. There are many people across the world who are fixed-mind set and believe that their abilities and intelligence cannot change. They dwell on the problems at hand and fail to recognize alternative ways to solve them. This group tends to have low self-esteem so they will prove themselves to others so they can feel superior academically or skilled related. If they fail at their task, they become more concerned with other’s thoughts, which diverges them from the actual objective. On the other hand, growth mind set is completely different from fixed-mind set. Growth mind set is someone who accepts the problem and thinks of a positive or useful way to fix the issue. This person believes that their strengths and weakness can grow with time and practice. These two mind sets help scientists explain why people act differently when faced with the same difficult situation.
Did you know that your brain can change over time? Today, there is a concept going around about mindsets and how your brain can grow. All that you have been hearing is true. You can grow your brain and you can change your mindset. Some people think that you were born with a fixed set of talents and abilities that can not be changed. But, in reality, everyone and anyone can change by just doing simple things. If you have a growth mindset, you are more likely to improve and succeed then if you have a fixed mindset. What mindset shapes your life?
Having a growth mindset can help a person with a positive attitude, and a positive attitude can help people improve to accomplish a task. If someone has a fixed mindset they will be less likely to succeed. When someone is trying to win a football game or accomplish a task that their boss gives them at work they need to be in the right state of mind to complete the task. If a person messes up they need to fix their mistake so they can succeed. If someone has a fixed mindset he/she might just get angry and not worry about improving. A person's thoughts determine a person's failures or successes because if people say “you can't, you won't”, if people think negatively they won't try hard enough, if people think positively they have a growth mindset.
The categories of mindsets that people attain/obtain are a “fixed mindset” and a “growth mindset”. A fixed mindsets are minds an unaltered and low level of self view , majorly--not concrete, this mindset leads them in a unsuccesful position in life. A growth mindset can seen as the ideal mind to have. Growth mindset is when you animatedly push yourself out of a poor fixed mindset , ---and in growth-- improve characteristically and intelligently; in simple you learn and grow from your mistakes. Mind you, some can have a growth mindset intrinsically; having a positive knowledge of self capabilities and worth --overcoming or deterring any unfortunate situation. In conjunction with mindsets, “grit” can be associated. Grit is something you
Dweck states in her research that everyone has certain beliefs about themselves that “create different psychological worlds that lead to a host of thoughts, feelings, and actions (Dweck, 2006). People establish these beliefs based on experiences and encounters in their life. Failures contribute to these beliefs as do successes. Once these beliefs are engrained in people, they will begin to form perceptions on where they need to be in life and these beliefs can influence their mind set to either a fixed or growth mindset. A person with a fixed mindset believes that his or her qualities related to a certain task are unchangeable, while an individual with a growth mindset believes that his or her qualities related to a certain task can be changed and improved (Dweck, 2006). Studies have shown that mindset can affect a student’s performance in their academic life as well as their social life. Research also indicates that mindset is something that can affect a student’s performance in their academic performance. Research also indicates that mindset is something
Michelle Obama once said during her Velvet Glove Convention Speech, “We learned about honesty and integrity that the truth matters... that you don't take shortcuts or play by your own set of rules... and success doesn't count unless you earn it fair and square.” This quotation means that learning comes from honestly and integrity, speaking the truth is important in order to succeed in the future. This quotation relates to the Ted Talk speech How great leaders inspire action, by Simon Sinek because he explains how many companies such as Apple succeed with consumers buying there products through the method of the golden circle. Leaders who make an impact in society, companies, and many high officials that inspire us, Simon Sinek revealed there
Growth mindset is the cone to an ice cream. It is the foundation of what I think a successful person is. Without it one couldn’t use the characteristics mentioned above in more ways than one. Someone with a growth mindset believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work, brains and talent are just the starting point.
