Teamwork In Freak The Mighty

The floor wasn't hot relatively, so I slept with the window closed. I woke up an hour before the alarm, but I fell asleep right ahead.

After reading the novel “Freak the Mighty,” we notice who the hero is. Both of these characters are keen ones in this fascinating novel. In the novel Kevin saved Max, but at the same time, Max saved Kevin. Max saved Kevin in multiple ways.

In today's society there are lots of people that believe that dumb people can not accomplish anything in there whole life. From the book Freak the Mighty this point is proven wrong. Max and Kevin, are the two most important characters in Freak the Mighty, they can both be described as dynamic characters. Each of them goes through major changes that are revealed through their actions, and by what the author says about them. Maxwell embodies the archetype of the hero's journey. I will discuss this issue using the fact that he has a birth, a calling/journey, and a return.

Freak The Mighty is a very thrilling and inspiring book about a friendship between two characters named Max and Kevin. During the course of the story, the main character (Max) changes a lot. Max is also very admirable for being a good role model. Here is proof of how he has changed and why I think he is a good role model.

This all changed when his best friend Kevin, a very intelligent, short, boy with Morquio syndrome, came around and turned Max’s life upside-down. Its funny to think that basically all Kevin, or Freak, had to do is remind Max that he is not what everyone thinks he is. The reader will also discover that after reading this book they will be able to accept other people who seem different than them.

Throughout the novel Freak the Mighty author Rodman Philbrick creates a compelling story featuring the main characters, Maxwell “Max” Kane and Kevin Dillon, better known as Freak, who go through a journey testing their friendship and loyalty to each other against the forces of evil in life. Max has not had it easy, with his mother being murdered by his father Kenny “Killer” Kane, and he has “never had a brain” (Philbrick 1). These actions and thoughts have left him with no friends and immense grief. Freak has also had a fairly lonely life, being two feet tall with extraordinary intelligence leaving him an outcast. Even into adulthood, people like to isolate others due to appearance or behavior. Loretta Lee, a woman the boys meet on a quest and also an old friend of Kenny Kane, is a perfect example, as she is judged by her looks and the way she can act. Despite their looks or behavior, all of these characters have the best intentions and enormous hearts, and are living a quality life, proving that just because someone is different, does not mean they are not of the same worth as everyone else.

On this adventure Freak was on Max’s shoulders directing Max where to go (chapter 9). This example shows the theme of friendship works best when teamwork is involved, because Freak can’t walk that fast and Max could so he helped Freak on their adventure by carrying him on his shoulders. When Freak was on his shoulders he was directing Max where to go. Without each other it would take Freak forever to get to the hospital and Max would of had no clue where to go. In friendship teamwork is necessary and these two were lucky to have both.

The main character Trevor is a very reserved young man that seems to be burdened by life. Being the late comer to this band of street brothers, Trevor, which will soon be known as T, quickly moves up the ranks. This young man with what seems to be a very laid back and reserved demeanor, shows his leadership qualities very quickly. T/Trevor plots out a plan to demolish, from the inside, a neighbor’s home. The coaching staff at the newly racially integrated T.C. Williams high school was one that was assembled from different schools in segregated communities. Upon receiving their coaching positions, they did not yet have a unified culture of beliefs, assumptions, or feelings because they didn’t know each other and had not worked together.

Each boy is basically half a person each. They are like a whole person together. Max has the body height of a normal person, and Kevin has the brain of a normal human. They became friends the summer before eighth grade and now they are inseparable and called Freak the Mighty. They never left each other's side until Christmas Eve when Max's father kidnapped him. It hurt both of them, they were separated a while, but then got to see each other again. Once they got close again Max found out that Kevin's heart problems had gotten even worse and then he died, it really hurt Max because he lost his only real

In this concept analysis we will see the conceptualization of teamwork, and critical attributes, related concepts and various cases, and illegitimate uses of team work. Teamwork is essential in the nursing field and this analysis will show just how important it is.

Conflict is inevitable and at times stimulates beneficial or creative thinking. Often conflict is a signal that people are miscommunicating and making different assumptions about what has gone unspoken. The conflict in itself is not the problem. It is the team’s reactions to it that determines the impact, thus causing it to be a negative experience. Conflict or divergence can be destructive or it can be constructive. It is up to the people involved in the conflict to manage the outcome. This gives them an opportunity to articulate their assumptions and figure out a way to come to agreement.
