Teamwork: A Concept Analysis A major concept that we have learned about in our nursing 182 class is Teamwork. In this concept analysis we will see the conceptualization of teamwork, and critical attributes, related concepts and various cases, and illegitimate uses of team work. Teamwork is essential in the nursing field and this analysis will show just how important it is. Concept Selection I chose the topic of teamwork because, teamwork is an essential part of our nursing careers. We will continually have to work with other nurses and doctors to help our patients receive the best care they can receive. It is important to work as a team with healthcare professionals so that way you provide the best care possible, get the job done right, and avoid errors (Elrick, 2016). In order to be a good team player you must communicate with your team of nurses, a miscommunication could put a patient 's life in danger. Being adaptable is also a big part in being a team player, especially when another nurse may need your help with a patient. Knowing what the plan for things like emergencies, and sticking to the plan will help things run smoothly and everyone working with you will know what is happening. Finally, getting to know who you are working with is a key part of being a team member because if you know how that person works, it will be easier for you to work with them. Teamwork in nursing is a little different that the teamwork of an actual team. In nursing, there is an ‘I’ in team, except here the ‘I’ stands for independent (QSEN Institute, 2015). Nurses and hospital faculty work their independent jobs, but communicate in order to give the patient the best care possible. Once again as stated before by Berman, the QSEN Institute believes that knowing your team 's strengths and weaknesses will also help you to be able to provide the best care possible.
