North Carolina schools administer the Teacher Working Condition Survey (TWCS) every two years. This survey is used to help provide goals for School Districts and School Improvement Team at each school. It is an anonymous survey that asked questions about teacher empowerment, leadership, facilities and resources, and more.
The secondary survey, created by me and my team, conducted by invitation using a sample group of faculty members with the responses being anonymous. The responses from both surveys were used to create an action plan for improving Hoke County High School in the five areas aforementioned - empowerment, leadership, facilities, resources, and time. The percentages for responses and written answers were placed into a presentation

As a young student, I have always aspired to become a teacher. Growing up, what I realized was that teaching is my future. Teaching is all I have focused on for years, slowly preparing myself to become a teacher. It is my passion and it was I believe I am meant to do. The only thing that worried me over all was the amount of money that a beginning teacher gets paid. I worry because of my future family. I worry that I won't be able to support them with a low-paying salary that teachers receive. I do not want to juggle around more than one job because that would bring stress and take away my focus from teaching. Though it is not about the money and I would never do it for the money, I worry that I won't be able to live off a teacher salary. Teacher pay should increase because higher salaries would improve the quality of the candidates applying for teaching positions, retaining teachers will become easier, and overall to improve the quality of teachers so the success of students would improve.

As the course of weeks of planning have interpose realizing a campus improvement plan is an essential item for any growth of a learning environment. Modifying our processes, teaching practices and student learning is vital to notice in order to make our action plan become successful. We must not forget the fact that our action plan is intertwined with the vision and mission set up by the administration team for the campus. Following this will be a chart as a draft of a school improvement plan based on the data acquired from Del Castillo Elementary. It includes a summary of the feedback and goals set by my principal mentor and

Every school district has board meetings throughout the school year. Unfortunately, many parents, community members, & school personnel do not attend such important meetings because they don’t realize or understand the importance of such board meetings or how informative they can be. According to Kankakee School District (2017), the Kankakee School District Board of Education is composed of seven elected members, who were elected by the citizens of Kankakee to serve a four-year term that do not receive no salary for they services, are committed to ensuring a quality of educational excellence that will enhance the opportunities and challenges facing today’s student and additional responsibilities that board members include are selection of the District superintendent, developing general polices according to wishes of the community and requirements of law, hiring school personnel based upon recommendation of the Superintendent and the Assistant Superintendent of Personnel, adopts salary schedules, approves funds to finance school operations, must adopt and review the annual operating budget for the District, and setting the property tax levy to produce adequate funds to meet the District’s financial needs ranks among the responsibilities of the Board of Education (Retrieved from https://www.ksd111.org/domain/68). Parkinson’s disease, Lou Gehrig’s disease, Sickle Cell Anemia, Alzheimer’s. This world is plague by countless diseases and there existed a time where, after many failed research attempts, scientists began to believe that people would always suffer from these diseases. However, with the introduction of stem cell research those past notions were dismissed. Upon their introduction, stem cell’s provided a new hope to the world and it proved itself to be an invaluable asset. Through stem cell research, a multitude of cures have been brought upon the world and these diseases that were uncontrollable in the past, can now be regulated and the ones suffering from now have a chance at living a better life. Sadly, there are many people who
An effective school leader possesses skills to create, implement, evaluate, improve and share a staff development plan. I met with Ben Rhodes, Sandy Creek Middle School’s principal, to interview him on the specific elements of his yearly staff development plan. We began with the design process focusing on the district and school goals. District goals include improving literacy across the content areas in reading and writing, Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum (GVC). Guaranteed and Viable Technology (GVT), and Closing the Achievement Gap (Equity in Excellence). Using a variety of assessments to focus on specific needs, Ben Rhodes and Mary Sonya, our Pupil Achievement Specialist, examined CSAP, Explore, MAP, and RAD data. They use the

The Teacher Working Conditions Survey indicates that leadership change had a major role in a better climate. In almost every category there was a marked improvement, specifically for the leadership. Last fall the high school went through a complete administration change. A new principal and assistant principal were assigned to the school. Both administrators were male with 6 and 5 years of experience as administrators. There was a 23% increase in participation. In the 2012 administration of the TWCS the faculty was told, “Blast me I don’t care, it won’t be the first time and probably won’t be the last.”, so only 65% of the faculty completed it. This past year 89% of the faculty and staff members completed the survey. Some of the noticeable data points included an increase in the trust and mutual respect question, in 2012 it was at 33% and in 2014 it went to 87% and in terms of teacher support by the administration it went from 50% to 96%. Another big issue was managing student conduct. In 2014, 100% of the respondents said that school administrators consistently enforce rules and support teachers’ efforts to maintain discipline in the classroom. That is up from 28% and 55% respectively. The teacher working conditions results are obvious that the school climate is much better largely in part to administration change.

Complications from pregnancy and childbirth are the leading cause of death among girls ages 15-19 in LMIC’s (Morris & Rushwan, 2015). The primary reason for these preventable death-causing complications is that teenagers are not properly supplied with contraceptives. Due to these unplanned and unwanted pregnancies approximately 4.5 million teenage girls undergo an abortion each year, with an estimated 3 million of them being performed unsafely (Morris & Rushwan, 2015). Some detrimental complications that may occur from an unsafe abortion are “cervical tearing, perforated uterus and bowel, hemorrhage, chronic pelvic infection and abscesses, infertility, endotoxic shock, renal failure, and death (Morris & Rushwan).” These are potential health problems that can haunt these young girls for the rest of their lives. By arming them with ways to avoid these unwanted pregnancies as community healthcare nurses we can spare them from these torturous side effects. Public health nurses can play a vital role in educating teenage girls on the different methods, benefits, and informatics of contraceptives available to them.
I came across an article that explains that the reality TV series “Teen Mom” and “16 and Pregnant” has spiked the rate of pregnant teens around 2006 and 2007 when the producers launched the first show 16 and pregnant. This lead to questioning if the hit TV show was affecting the young viewers sexual habits. Parents should enforce what their kids watch on TV, parents definitely have a say in what their underage kids can and can’t watch.
