A critical issue that is currently affecting students among the middle school and high school ages is bullying. This survey was created in attempt to gather further information about the bullying going on in these specific age groups. Please take 10-15 minutes to complete the following questionnaire and return it promptly to the assigned classroom teacher. Your contribution is greatly appreciated as it helps us achieve a better understanding of the bullying climate in the Oshkosh Area School District.
The Oshkosh Area School Board is collaborating with us on this survey. As a student in grades 6-12 in the Oshkosh Area School District, you were randomly chosen to participate in this survey. The survey will gather data that is intended to

Bullying has always been a very common issue in schools, but not easily recognized or taken care of. It was not until the increased number of s hootings in the 1900's and suicides that attention was brought into bullying in schools or “schoo l-bullying” (“School Bullying” 1). Today bullying impacts up to thirty percent of middle- to high-schoo l students (“School Bullying” 1). Whether or not bullying is more dominant in one’s life i s dependent on the age group: bulling general starts in early preteen years, but subsid es before adulthood.
Because most of the studies in previous assessments involved samples of participants from middle and high school environments, this study will be focused on a single Canadian high school population since Canada has one of the highest rates of bullying incidents in school. In order to obtain a balanced and optimal outcome, a total of 30 students from grade nine to twelve will be selected at random to take part in the self-report questionnaire study. The ratio of boys to girls will be 46% males and 54% females. Since bullying is more prevalent in males, more females have been selected to counter any potential biases and avoid any imbalances that could appear in the results.
These skills and behaviors can be introduced to students in lessons and classroom discussions. Some of the intensive interventions consist of support to both victims and bullies through group therapy and individual counseling. Obtaining parent support for these children is a important component of intervention initiatives. The goals of these programs are to empower adults and children to take the appropriate steps to stop bulling when and where it occurs and to teach children positive behaviors and interpersonal skills. “Effective prevention efforts mobilize a school’s most vital resource- the students- to be a school’s most powerful force in fostering a caring culture in which all students can grow and learn”( Feinberg,2003).
Bullying has engrained in American society since the country’s founding. Bred from a capitalistic economy and competitive social hierarchy, bullying has remained a relevant issue through the years. School age children are learning skills and lessons from their teachers as well as through peer interactions. Although schools are great tools that children benefit from, there are some bad experiences, such as bullying, that may negatively affect and remain with these children for the rest of their lives. Some
The Handmaid’s Tale additionally brings the biology perspective on rape into the novel. The explanation for the commander having, what is basically forced, sex with Offred is for reproductive purposes in order to populate the society. The novel even brings in the social cultural view of rape culture as well by showing us that the commander also wanted “forced” sex for other reasons such as lust or romance. Therefore, making the novel’s approach more combine, similarly to Owen D. Jones. The Handmaid’s Tale ultimately still can help spark conversations about rape culture that have to grow and develop in order to make progress with the issues of rape culture.
School bullying and bullying as a whole has become a growing concern. The need for more intervention is more recognized, as incidents of bullying and inappropriate acts towards others occur in places outside of the classroom. This literature takes a closer look at bullying in schools. Olwesus (2013) states “the field of bullying research is to some extent plagued by problems, disagreements, and unresolved issues” (p.752). Whether if anyone will agree on the root of bullying, the fact remains that bullying has to be examined at its very core to remedy the matter before it becomes a bigger concern. There is a dire need for intervention based programs to be set in place to address the fact the act of bullying has lasting effects on the bully and the victim. When intervention programs are put into place to address bullying, the act of bullying decreases due to the gained understanding of the effects.
The prohibition of marijuana has an enormous social cost. The detrimental effects of prohibition run from wasted resources to shattered lives. The police all over America pledge thousands of hours to arresting, booking, and inprisoning marijuana smokers everyday. Many of whom are otherwise law-abiding citizens. In 2012, more than 658,000 arrests were made due to marijuana. The most disastrous of these arrests have spent over a decade in prison. These arrest take policemen not only away from their loved ones, but away from more serious and urgent issues. Furthermore, enforcing laws on possession cost over 3.6 billion dollars of the tax payers money every year. With that being said, the reason marijuana became illegal is because the government
The research method used for this study was a survey distributed as a self-report questionnaire. Data were collected by giving the questionnaire to 3,065 male and female adolescents attending grades 7 through 12 in three midwestern states. The sample design consisted of two parts. First, schools were chosen within a participating school district, which was representative for size and location within the area. Second, two or three classrooms per grade level were chosen among the general enrollment classes. A small subset was also added from applicants who volunteered from the districts who were interviewed a few weeks before the questionnaire was administered (Akers, Lanza-Kaduce, & Radiosevich, 1979).
Bullying can be hard to define, because research has shown that it comes in many forms which makes it difficult to find one set of characteristics that will describe a bully. Conclusively, studies have defined bullying as a set of repeated aggressive behavior that is intended to harm someone, which usually involves an imbalance of power between the victim and the perpetrator (Morgan, 2012, p. 174). Studies have shown that there are two distinct types of bullying, which is a direct form of verbal and physical aggression, and indirect, which often results in name calling, rumors and exclusion (Aluedse, 2006, p. 38). This form of peer victimization can have devastating effects on a child 's academic work and their physical and psychological well being (Limber, 2003, p. 23). In terms of gender, boys are more likely to be involved in physical bullying (direct) as for girls are more likely to be involved in indirect bullying (Wang et al, 2009, p. 371). Previous research indicates, that parents and friends are two important factors of social interaction associated with bullying and victimization among adolescences. Bullying is quite common among middle school children, because it is during this time that children go through puberty and hormonal changes. During this time students are looking to be accepted and fit into a specific group; however, when there is a lack of acceptance and esteem due to victimization, this can cause children to isolate themselves from those around them
The purpose of this study is to identify the most prevalent forms of bullying on a high school campus and identify which strategies are most effective to prevent or respond to bullying. The study will also identify the most effective strategies to improve student achievement and attendance for those students who have experienced bullying. Students must feel safe to learn. Students who are bullied have a propensity to avoid the bullies; therefore, they choose not to attend school. Poor attendance often will result in poor grades and even dropping out of school.
Thesis: Bullying in its many forms affects all people no matter age, gender, and class, but the effects can be very dangerous and very hurtful.
One of the greatest Soviet leaders, Mikhail Ivanovich Kalinin, once commented that teachers are the engineers of human souls. With the rise of globalization, an increasing number of students are choosing to study aboard, especially in the United Kingdom. The importance of keeping and improving the overall quality of teachers in the UK is therefore extremely significant. Apart from the level of job satisfaction that motivates teachers to continue improving, the reward system also exerts a strong influence on teachers’ behaviour at work. In accordance with ‘New Pay’ approach, strategic incentives play an important role in achieving business objectives (Lawler, 1995). On one hand, overall payment levels compared to other occupations is a motivating factor, whilst on the other the internal payment system affects teachers’ performance as well. This report will offer a thorough analysis of the reward system for teachers in England and Wales, beginning with an overview of the general situation on teachers’ salaries and followed by a discussion on tangible aspects including base pay, variable pay, benefits and pensions as well as intangible aspects like non-financial benefits. By presenting all this information and analysing it clearly, I will offer some suggestions aimed at enhancing the total reward system for teachers in England and Wales.
About twenty-eight percent of student’s ages 12-18 reported being bullied at school during the school year according to the Indicators of School Crime and Safety report, by the Bureau of Justice statistics. Across thirty-nine states survey, 7.2 percent of students admit to not attending school because they do not feel safe. The importance of bullying can’t be undermined. Teachers and parents must understand the importance of looking and listening for signs and behaviors of bullying. This will help tackle the issue before it gets serious and someone gets hurt.
