Trident's introductory course TUX101 was extremely beneficial as it broke the ice with online learning. I have completed minimal college courses, and all of those were in a classroom environment. Knowing and understanding I am a kinesthetic learner, I was very apprehensive to enroll in an online college. I was not familiar with the APA style writing, I did not have a resume or cover letter, nor did I understand the support system designed to help students with this type of learning atmosphere. The exercises, assignments, workload, and time allotted within TUX101 was spot on when it came to brushing off the dust and sparking my desire to complete my degree. My current understanding of the expectations from the TUI online requirements, the

1. [LO 1] Compare and contrast different ways in which a taxpayer triggers a realization event by disposing of an asset.
1. All distributions (excluding reasonable salary) to Paula and Mary will be taxed as dividends to them. And the corporation could not deduct this part of distribution.
Tax deductions are allowed to taxpayers only if specifically authorized by the Internal Revenue Code. Deductions allowable to individual taxpayers fall into four categories: trade or business expenses, expenses incurred for the production of income, losses, and personal expenses. In addition to discussing the general requirements for deductibility for each of the above types of expenses, this chapter also discusses the tax treatment of many commonly encountered expenses incurred by taxpayers, from trade or business expenses such as rent, insurance, interest, taxes, bad debts, etc. to employee business expenses (travel, transportation, etc.) to
On the surface level, Paul B. Wilson, Sr. and I possess a couple of similarities; we both grew up on Cherry Street in Mahoningtown and I aspire to enter the medical field and become a veterinarian. However, if one were to analyze our lives, they would find that we work towards the same morals of life. During my career as a student at New Castle High School, I have learned how to become a better student and to continuously grow as a person. This building has morphed my character in a myriad of ways. Overall, it has taught me on how to be a better student, achieve higher grades, and apply an abundance of work to accomplish my goals. Due to this, I have earned a 4.93 GPA and a membership in National Honor Society. However, like Mr. Wilson, I
In today’s society, so many people are continuing their education beyond high school. We realize that in order to make a decent living, a degree is most likely a requirement. In some cases even a bachelor’s degree is not enough to qualify for many positions. Nevertheless, thanks to technology, we now have the option to learn online or in a traditional classroom setting. There are very few differences between the two, and students need to understand that as much time and energy will need to be devoted to the online courses as on a campus. “A 2010 meta-analysis and review of online-learning studies concluded that online learning was as good as or slightly more effective than traditional face-to-face instruction” (Mendenhall, 2011).
Online degrees are becoming common and enrollment is booming, but success rate is significantly low compared to the traditional classroom environment. Research shows that drop-out rates for online courses range from 20-50%, often 10-20% greater than equivalent online courses (Bernard, R.M., Brauer, A., Abrami, P.C., & Surkes, M., 2004).
Through this course I expect to become familiar with the online learning format. I have never taken online courses previously so I plan to learn the skills necessary for me to become a successful online scholar.
In “Something Wicked This Way Comes” by Ray Bradbury, Charles Halloway is a character that faces internal and external conflicts. The evidence “Hell, I was forty when he was born.” (Bradbury 37), “He’s too young, I’m too old. God, sometimes I wish we’d never…” (90), and “You know what I hate most of all? Not being able to run anymore, like you.” (131) is used to show how Charles Halloway faces the internal conflict of wanting to be young. Because of this Charles gets bothered when he sees the age gap between his family. Charles also has an ill-stricken heart which adds to his internal conflict. Charles is always thinking about how his family is so young and how he is way older than them. Charles Halloway worries and constantly lets these conflicts
I truly benefitted from the expertise of the faculty and the interactions between my classmates as I got to connect as their expertise spanned many areas of public health and medicine. I believe that I also gained more knowledge and learned significantly more as I had to learn a lot on my own and get through difficult materials without help from other students or professors. This took time, however, I gained much more fluency and am comfortable with public health topics. Regardless of my proven success in an online program, I need to improve on completing my assignments during the day, rather than at night. Since online classes do not require you to be present on campus, it was easy to push assignments off until midnight or even later, however I know that this is something I need to improve on, especially with clinical rotations during the daytime. Overall, I feel that I thrive in an online setting because I can create my own schedule between life, work and school while advancing my own
My first experience with a course conducted completely using computer-based instruction as an adult learner occurred during the fall semester of 2007. I was nearing the completion of my first Master’s degree and enrolled in ED500A, which was an educational research class. Although I had extensive experience utilizing technology and the Internet, and had dabbled in CBI, this course was conducted entirely online and proved to be challenging for me. The challenges were not due to the content, but were based on the limited connectivity with other course participants and the instructor. I quickly adapted to the format of the course expectations and developed a schedule in order to meet
Imagine having a son or daughter who one second can be walking next to you at your local grocery store and the next second they’re on the floor blinking repeatedly, crippled and shaking. Dravet Syndrome, also known as Severe Myoclonic Epilepsy of Infancy (SMEI), causes children to have monthly, weekly or hourly seizures without warning. This illness prevents children from experiencing a true childhood full of discovery and enjoyment. You try multiple treatments, doctors, and medications, but nothing seems to work. Finally, you decide to resort to the medical marijuana and notice the results are astounding. Your child’s behavior changes from quiet and unmotivated to talkative and energetic! Dravet Syndrome is just one of many conditions that medicinal cannabis has proven to help. Many medical conditions qualify for medical marijuana use making it a more reliable and affordable alternative from over-the-counter drugs. However, since the early 1900’s marijuana has been pushed to the side when it comes to being an option for helping people. Anti-marijuana activists believe that marijuana has only negative effects on the heart, brain, and lungs. Although, marijuana is labeled a Schedule 1 drug alongside heroin and LSD, legalizing medical use in Florida can benefit the state’s economy in tax revenue as well as the health of its inhabitants who have deadly or torturous medical conditions.
Online degrees are becoming an ever more trendy method to receive a college education and many students are switching to online education due to the quality of material, ease, and the level of flexibility in distance education programs. Recently, the internet has developed into a reliable capital of information for college seekers. Everything from applying for financial assistance to taking a course can be done online. Now, a student can even obtain online degrees from one of many schools offering online education as a practical choice to a traditional classroom education. There’s a load of information regarding online education, and distance education is becoming increasingly popular for students everywhere.
This course was extremely interesting to me; discovering the four different learning patterns, how they influence college coursework and my career path. I appreciated looking at the inter-working of how I learn and what I can do to enhance my learning capabilities. As the weeks went by, the on-line experience with Ashford University became easier to schedule; I used sequential and precision learning patterns to regulate my time, turning in assignments when they were due. In the past, on-line learning was tedious and difficult to manage. Ashford’s approach with an
I’ve summed up the introduction of Taxation to these slight words. Taxation is defined as a way that the government able to generate or collect revenue from the citizen of one’s nation through different sources. As what I’ve learned from Taxation course that there are two types of taxation, direct which are paid by the taxpayer directly to the government, and indirect which are collected by an intermediary (like a retail store) from the consumer. The intermediary who will file the tax return later and forward the amount of the money to the government with the return. This tax is applicable to organizations and individuals. In this reflection, I would like to highlight what I learned of business and individual taxation, the experience on working with a group for the project and what challenges I faced and how I was able to get past.
