There are millions upon millions of stars that light up the night sky. Some of these stars are grouped together in a way that creates a shape or figure; these shapes have been studied for thousands of years by people all around the world. Some civilizations have even dedicated stories to these figures in the sky; most of these shapes or constellations have their origins in Greek and Roman mythology. The constellation I chose as my favorite is Taurus, the bull. While Taurus is one of the constellations featured in the zodiac, my reasons for choosing it as my favorite constellation are not in relation to the story of Zeus and Europa; I chose Taurus because the Pleiades or "Seven Sisters" (a star cluster) are located inside of the constellation. …show more content…

This family was by no means ordinary. Each night the daughters would venture into the woods nearby their home and play. Six of the seven daughters had a unique power that they could use to entertain or help one another. One could speak to the animals, while another could manipulate water. The youngest daughter, however, did not receive any powers after her 13th birthday. The other sisters teased her and often excluded her from their charades. Soon she grew to despise her siblings and decided that one day she would leave her family. One night, a fire suddenly erupted in the forest. The family was trapped inside their home as the fire grew larger and larger, enveloping the outside of their tiny cottage. The six older sister ran but perished inside the fire. The youngest remained with her mother and father as they watched the six sisters' souls drift into the heavens. Distraught, the mother and father wept for their lost children. The fire grew stronger and eventually entered into the home. Courageously the youngest daughter stood in front of her parents protecting them from the flames. They were saved but the youngest daughter also perished. Her soul began to drift high up into the night sky where it joined the souls of her sisters. The souls twinkled in the night sky; one soul shone the brightest out of the seven. It was that of the youngest sister whose power was to love and
