Using Glickman (2014) as a reference point, there are two types of opportunity for learning that could be used to make staff development meaningful to teachers: integrated school-wide staff development and individual professional development. When using an integrated school-wide professional development, "it is critical that all members of the school community provide input into the school wide professional development goals” (Glickman, Gordon and Ross-Gordon, 2014). Moreover, the administration must provide an expansive objective for professional development so that all participants can adopt it and stay consistent with the school’s objective. A perfect example of a school-wide professional development would be addressing student discipline (Glickman et al., 2014). While certain groups of teachers might want to compare their decision with other schools, other groups could choose ”to attend a training program on effective discipline” (Glickman et al., 2014). Curriculum, as stated by Glickman (2014) “is the what of instruction”. Additionally, Ornstein and Hunkins, (as cited by Glickman, Gordon and Ross-Gordon, 2014) have listed the elements of the curriculum and they “are sequence and continuity, scope and balance”. The mastery with which a teacher can incorporate the elements of the curriculum in instruction is categorized by levels. I believe that Excel can enhance the younger generations math learning skills. I think that as long as the basic math skills of calculating numbers are learned and mastered first, then Excel can be of a great benefit in the development of the critical thinking skills that are necessary to implement all of the different formulas. I believe that this kind of critical thinking that is required to realize how to formulate the data is a very important skill to develop. I do think that the younger generations and everyone else's calculating skills become a "little rusty" because of continually relying on Excel to do all of the calculating instead of doing the math out longhand, but this can occur even through the use of calculators. This becomes especially true as you undertake the challenge of serving as principal of the Elm Street Elementary School. The Elm Street Elementary School is a small suburban school located in Prairie Hills, USA. This school serves students in kindergarten to fifth grade.

Looking back from when I began my career, I can say I came a long way learning the concepts of understanding the expectations that arose from all my positions. In my first job just after graduating, I was appointed as a Business Accountant of a multinational company. Since then, I was caught in the myth that people who were in leadership positions or high ranking were leaders. Being in a junior position, I could have the least effect on any new ideas as my voice seems to have landed in deaf ears. I have seen how those businesses were not in line with their Missions and Values only to find later that many of the staff had left the company.
Professional development principles Ben embraces are Rigor, Relationships, Relevance and Realness. Mr. Rhodes continually emphasizes that work needs to have relevance and rigor in assignments and that the relationships teachers build with students is essential for success. Specific content used for staff development goals are Glenn Singleton’s work (Equity), National Achievement Gap, High Performing Schools, 90/90/90 Studies, 21st Century Skills, Marzano’s Instructional Strategies, and Heidi Hayes Jacobs’ literacy work. A variety of activities for teaching new skills to teachers occurs throughout the year. These include study groups, guest speakers, ERO (staff development classes), open classroom visits, master teachers sharing best practices in literacy, differentiated instruction, , math, and culturally responsive teaching, conference opportunities, mentors, district content area inservices, building inservice days, monthly district content area meetings, partnerships with universities, Collaborative Action Research for Equity (C.A.R.E.) cadre, and monthly building equity meetings. Mr. Rhodes uses the district Teaching Learning Cycle (Plan-Teach-Monitor- Adjust) to evaluate and assess the learning goals and make improvements. Ben also meets with Ben and the leadership team about the goals and creates the timeline to provide training and analyze progress. Brady and Kennedy (2010) define the term curriculum as ‘the means by which young people and adults gain the essential knowledge, skills and attributes they need to be productive and informed citizens in a democratic society.’ However the term has many varied definitions, it can be described as being the subject matter, the overall plan for teaching or the outcome of what is taught (Wiles, 2005). Marsh and Willis (cited in Marsh, 2009, p. 3) break curriculum down into three individual areas of ‘planned curriculum’, the objectives and aims, ‘enacted curriculum’, how the objectives are
