Hello Ali Benjamin, thank you for taking the time to talk and have this interview with me, let me start by asking you questions. Before we start I would like to tell you that I thought your book was great, so how do u feel about writing a book that was a national book award finalist? I feel very grateful for everyone that has helped me to get this far and extremely happy that my book made it all the way to the finals. That's beautiful Ali so through the book how did you try to fit Franny's death into everything that was happening in Suzy life? Since Suzy and Franny were best friends I felt like I should of put franny as memoirs instead of having her be in the present. So why did you decide to write the book in Suzy's point of view? Since Franny …show more content…
Where I grew up we had a huge neighborhood and all the kids would come out and play and a lot of those people inspired me to write this book so I decided to have there names as characters. In the begging of the book you dedicate the book to curious kids everywhere how did you come up with the idea? Most of the book is about how Suzy was curious about franny's death and how she did everything in her power to find out the answers to all her questions so I dedicated it to curious children everywhere. Why did you pick the animal jellyfish to be the main animal Suzy researches for the death of Franny? Since Franny's death was in the ocean I thought that jellyfishes would make the most sense than any other animal in the ocean. When and where did you decide to write this book? I was on a road trip with my wife and as we were driving through Texas and the idea just came to me so I started writing it right away in the car but I did write a lot of the book in a coffee shop right by my house. What was your attended audience for this
During this section of the book, I felt contented that someone was finally trying to find out more things about Mr. Harvey. In this case, it is Susie's father, Jack Salmon. I like how Jack Salmon is strong and won't give up until he finds his daughter's murderer. On the other hand, I was upset and confused as to why Ray didn't attend Susie's memorial service. I thought about this for a moment and then I understood that maybe Ray wanted to forget about Susie, but he still missed her at the same time. Overall, what really shocked me about this section of the book was when Lindsey passed out at Susie's memorial service. It startled me that Lindsey passed out due to the eye contact she made with Mr. Harvey. This event made me feel determined to
There may not be a more well-known comedy routine in the American consciousness than that of “Who’s on First?” by Bud Abbott and Lou Costello. The routine has been parodied, satirized and imitated by countless TV shows, movies, and theatre productions, and the joke has become almost a cultural shorthand for confusing situations.
Gloria Anzaldua’s article “How to Tame a Wild Tongue” focuses on the discrimination against Latin American individuals, who are residents or citizens, of the United States. Gloria Anzaldua empathizes the bullying in schools and in her daily life. Despite all the bullying and discrimination she had to put up with, Gloria stands up for herself and fights for her culture and origins. She chooses to love herself for who she is, which allowed her to put those ugly comments and actions aside to grow into the person she is today. Amy Tan’s article “Mother Tongue,” also focuses on the discrimination against her efforts to speak and write English. Amy Tan emphasizes the topics of standardized testing and discrimination within schools that go
Chapter 1 The clearing that Lennie and George end up in is serene and beautiful and is supposed to be the midpoint between their troubles in Weed and the troubles on the ranch. This opening shows the strained friendship between the men and introduces the dream of owning their own farm that they share. The author also shows the type of symbiotic relationship that George and Lennie within the first set of conversations. Because George and Lennie do not change drastically throughout the novel, the impression the reader gets from these first few pages is consistent through the entire novel.

An author’s purpose for writing a book is very important to consider when evaluating or analyzing a book. Not only does it provide insight to her message and the themes portrayed in the book, but also give a clear cut template for which we can use to gauge the success of their writing. The book Orphan train is evaluated in my perception if it accomplishes Christina Baker Kline’s goals. Based on her motivations and purpose, we can see that she hit home with many of the ideas she was trying to convey. Orphan Train does in many ways echo and show her motivations, from reading in between the lines, conclusions from silence and inference from how people speak.

Before investigating the novel’s many relationships, it is necessary to acknowledge Barbara’s character traits in order to substantiate the idea that the novel 's greatest irony is that ‘This book isn’t about me’(4). This is a concept hidden in plain sight: Joanna Briscoe of

A life changing event doesn’t necessarily mean you as a person change the way you look at yourself. A life changing event can actually change your entire outlook and perspective on things to think differently than you have in the past. We all go through life changing experiences from time to time, good or bad it happens to all of us at some point. It was the beginning of my junior year and I was so confident and kept saying to myself “this is my year’’. Things were going smooth, classes were good, I just became manager of a dance team and this is only the first month of school. It was the middle of September and I was walking down the hall way to my next class with my friend Asia. She had such a wonderful
The fifth and final section of The Hiding Place demonstrated a harrowing, tragic, and slightly upsetting look at the effects of The Holocaust and provided an interesting example of how we should handle and process death in our own lives and relationships. What I just read reminds me of the time in my life during which my grandfather perished. While I did not know him extremely well, his death as a result of stage four cancer still deeply impacted me and I mourned selfishly as I did not think of how his pain had vanished and he was in a better place. I only thought of how he had left my family and I behind. Contrastingly, Betsie processed her own heartbreaking death in a very diverse manner. Instead of worrying and thinking solely of herself,

Shug later said she was jealous of Celia for marring Mister, her ex. Celia seemed a little intimidated but was nothing but kind and caring for Shug. She made her breakfast the next morning, after Mister’s failed attempt at breakfast, then started singing and brushing Shug’s hair in the bath. Albert, otherwise known Mister, has a soft spot for Shug. He loves her and allows Shug to boss him around and stand up to him. Shug sees Celia’s struggles and they develop a close, loving friendship. Shug looks out for Celia and is another person besides Nettie that loves her. There are sometimes throughout the film that Celia looks as a Shug more than a friend.
