Styles of writing differ from writer to writer. It is clear that many writers have their own style which make them unique in their own way. However, there are many similar components in writing that authors practice in order to make their writing as effective as possible. In Suzanne Britt and Dave Berry’s essays, they reveal their opinions on the same topics but differing subjects, and in these essays, it is clear that both writers make use of many similar techniques. Yet, within these similarities, an apparent distinction in their writing style is present. Britt and Barry both make use of a sarcastic tone throughout their essays. These humorous real-life situations, allows the reader to remain intrigued throughout the essay. Unlike Britt, Berry explains how two different sexes have different specialties, especially when it comes to cleaning. With use of situational examples, the reader is able to accurately relate to it, realizing that the claims presented are true. Britt’s writing style was more effective because her techniques, like repetition, proved more beneficial at reeling the reader in. Repetitions tends to emphasize on a point, making it stand out throughout the essay. When mixed in with the humor and sarcastic tone, it was one step ahead of Barry’s style. Considering that both had similar components overall, Britt’s use of repetition made her writing more effective. As mentioned before, the styles authors use to develop the effectivity of their essays may frequently reveal the same pattern. Components like humor greatly influence how effective an essay will turn out to be. However, because writing styles differ from writer to writer, there will always be that just noticeable difference between those techniques.
