Summary: The Salvation Army Pine Lake Camp Experience

For over 60 years, Camp Young Judaea Texas (CYJ) continues to flourish and expand our reach in local Texas communities. We receive over 600 campers each summer and administer programming to over 5,000 individuals during the year. CYJ is a non-profit organization and is committed to providing individuals of all financial backgrounds with opportunities to be a part of camp. Through dynamic camp activities and superior retreats, our organization supplies both children and adults with a fun, educational space that fosters spiritual growth, social activism, philanthropy, and a passion for preserving the environment.

During both Smart Meter Program and Emergency Base Camp Program the budget responsibilities were assigned under my responsibility. Paul Nielsen was my reporting IT Director which sponsored the Emergency Base Camp Program. Tim Cottongin was the Smart Meter Director and sponsor of the Smart Meter Program. In both cases S1 and S2 funding details were developed and forwarded for inclusion into the enterprise budget. During the development of the Base Camp Program a business case was developed and proved by the IT budgetary group. God has been at work in my life in so many ways in this last year. This past summer, I worked at Trout Lake Camps, a Bible camp in Pine River, Minnesota. This experience not only taught me how wonderful a Christian community is, but also how to give my life completely over to Him. I was able to have meaningful conversations with campers about their faith, and ways they could come closer to God. I also know that God has placed this camp in my life not only to tell young students about Jesus Christ, but to learn how to stretch my faith beyond its limits. I can not wait to bring what I have learned to Northwestern. I believe that UNWSP will continue to stretch my limits and take me deeper in my walk with God. I plan to make life-long friends while

Hannah is a twenty year old girl from Egan. For the past 3 years she has spent her summers at a bible camp up north called Trout Lake Camps. The first time Hannah stepped foot at the camp she didn’t want to go. She spent the school year there working in the office. But now the thought of not stepping foot there makes her think about all the good times and bad times she had. From sleeping in chapel or getting stuck in a canoe, she can’t help but be thankful for being forced to go there.

The juvenile delinquent involves in this case study is Michael. Michael’s prior criminal behavior began at the age of ten when he was arrested for petty theft. In the same year, Michael was arrested again for truancy twice. At this time Michael spent several weekends in a truancy prevention program, during this time the program revealed Michael had a slight learning disability. Throughout the years, Michael continued to do poorly in school.

Last summer I volunteered to be a camp counselor at a camp in Blowing Rock, North Carolina called Camp Sonshine. This camp is different from others in that they bring children ages 5 to 18 from inner city Memphis, Tennessee to the Appalachian Mountains. This

The wind tousled my hair around as I closed my eyes and took deep, shaky breaths. The faint sound of the crowd cheering upstage didn't help with my nerves, so, instead, I turned my ears to the delicate waves rolling up the beach. I opened my eyes and gazed out at the lake; now an open canvas for the golden sun which had began setting. Quietly, I plucked each string of my guitar- though I’d already tuned them several times. On the outside, I may have seemed ready, content, and excited; however, on the inside, no matter how tranquilizing the back stage scenery was, I was terrified to the core.

I served as an officer for our Campus Christian Club at Lone Star College-North Harris for 3 semesters and I remain a member of the group these last two semester. Prior to attending Lone Star College-North Harris I served as a cook, and fund raiser with the Home-school program affiliated with Lindale Assembly of God. I also cooked for our Wednesday night services, or any special event that was held at the church. I served under the instruction of Pastor Randy and Jana Meeks. I also aided in providing perishable and nonperishable goods to the pantry and for emergencies such as opening the church for those who were fleeing Hurricane Katrina in 2005. As I Boy Scout and former member of scouting’s national honor society I have dedicated the last ten years of my life to the cheerful service of others. Along this amazing journey I earned the high honor of eagle scout. To earn such an esteemed rank I had to demonstrate leadership and service towards others through a large community project. As a result I undertook the complete restoration of a garden at Saint Timothy’s Episcopal church called Founders Green which took three years to complete. Through those three years I I took on more responsibility at the age of twelve some teenagers have in their entire high school career. The service I voluntarily participated in was helping victims of hurricane Irma clean up debris and cut down trees in Key West, Florida. We were divided up into three large groups. A local church (St. Peter Catholic Church), a water revised (John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park), and a museum (Crane Point Museum & Nature Center) were the three destinations for our cleanup crews. The team I was placed in went to help the St. Peter Catholic church. This multicultural church is ran by an Haitian American Priest that has been a pastor for twenty-five years of his life. During the service we cut down trees, stacked and removed debris. After about an hour and thirty minutes of this labor we helped replenish the handmade tomatoes garden built

I started coming to Phantom Lake YMCA Camp in the summer of 2013 and I have loved it ever since. Camp has given me more opportunities than I could've ever imagined from sailing to enjoying late night hikes through the woods with my tent mates.

I was brought up in a broken family where education was not a priority. I was shipped around from relative to relative and eventually I ended up in being place a couple of group homes. I was what some might call a problem child. I once went to a wilderness camp, there I learned a lot about surviving of the land and team work. This started my love affair with the great outdoors. I am grateful for the lessons that were taught to me. I learned to hunt, fish, and live off of the land. There are all things that I continue to love in my life now.

Generally speaking every youth, child or teen, likes to have some form of fun. After the school year is over, children are excited to have a break. One way for kids to have fun is to have an opportunity to take a week off in nature, and enjoy numerous activities with other kids their age at Cohutta Springs Youth Camp. Having several staff members, quality food, and state of the art attractions, summer camp can be costly. However, sending children to Cohutta Springs Youth Camp will help them build positive character traits from learning healthful habits, social skills, and discipline.

In the beginning of the year, I was chosen to be a part of a school program called Leadership, in which I can organize school events and get to know my own leadership abilities. Later on in mid-march, remembrance day was coming up, so our leaders took charge of hosting the Remembrance Day assembly for the entire school. As the organizing committee was finding people to help out, I volunteered myself to be the host of the assembly. In fact, I’ve always wanted to be a host growing up, so I knew that this was the perfect opportunity for me to have a hands-on experience. Because this was my first time being a host, I did not know what to expect and what I needed to do. However, my fellow classmates and I cooperated patiently and helped each other
