Overview
For over 60 years, Camp Young Judaea Texas (CYJ) continues to flourish and expand our reach in local Texas communities. We receive over 600 campers each summer and administer programming to over 5,000 individuals during the year. CYJ is a non-profit organization and is committed to providing individuals of all financial backgrounds with opportunities to be a part of camp. Through dynamic camp activities and superior retreats, our organization supplies both children and adults with a fun, educational space that fosters spiritual growth, social activism, philanthropy, and a passion for preserving the environment.
Like the Cynthia & George Mitchell Foundation, CYJ has begun making strides to incorporate new systems that stimulate environmental

In actuality, Camp Young Judaea Texas utilizes between 3.9-4.1 million gallons of water, not including the 2-3 million gallons used for landscaping purposes. Surpassing the allotted amount of water occurs primarily in the summer months following droughts or changes in temperature. During this time, the camp must switch to using water provided by the city or risk being fined for exceeding water limits. Keeping this in mind, CYJ proposes the installation of water structures that provide camp with the ability to reuse at least 30% of our waste-water before the summer of 2017. Eventually, our camp hopes to match global leaders in water sustainability that have reached an average of 97% wastewater …show more content…
Those attending camp programming will be aware of ways these products have impacted environmental wellness. In this manner, CYJ will supply the storyline behind companies and organizations making serious efforts to meet the needs of a changing world.
On behalf of Camp Young Judaea Texas, we respectfully request the opportunity to submit a grant proposal to the Cynthia & George Mitchell Foundation and present our Sustainability Education & Conservation Initiative in full detail. With your assistance, CYJ will be able to meet the financial need of the projects summarized above. Our organization is appreciative of the time your foundation has taken to review CYJ’s plans for sustainable education and innovation and hopes to establish a partnership in the
I am Jeffrey Romelus from Brockton, Massachusetts. I have been attending Camp Sankaty for 4 years. While at camp I would be responsible at times in the dormitories. It would be my responsibility to make sure everything was in order. I have helped during the morning and during the night.
In terms of water usage, ASU’s campus is Arizona’s largest public arboretum, and is committed to proper water management. They were able to reduce 29 percent of indoor potable water usage by the use of 0.5-gpm fixtures. In addition, 76 percent of potable irrigation water consumption was reduced through landscape and irrigation tactics.
Despite the existing sustainable initiatives mentioned above, Camp Young Judaea Texas continues to create a significant amount of waste during the summer and year round retreat sessions. Energy, water, food, and recyclable materials are only a few examples of the assorted waste produced in a camp environment. Therefore, our camp is committed to becoming a model for water sustainability and environmental conservation. Over the course of the next five years, CYJ plans to build and showcase clean and sustainable infrastructures that are being produced worldwide. Our camp facilities and education programs will incorporate the use of technologies; such as solar paneling, biogas, drip irrigation, rainwater collection cisterns, and digitally-monitored water and electricity metering, alongside other tools currently revolutionizing modern sustainable practices.
Mirroring the strategies being developed in the state of Israel, CYJ Texas has begun making strides to incorporate new conservation techniques and infrastructures that will stimulate environmental wellness, reduce our dependence on energy and water resources, and decrease overall waste production. At this time, CYJ Texas has already implemented a recycling program and recently finished the construction of our new Experiential Learning Center (ELC). This facility operates using a number of sustainable technologies; including solar panels to offset energy use, a butterfly rain-catchment roof system, and rainwater collection cisterns that provide water for the ELC’s living roof to help insulate the building.
This foundation provides many opportunities to children like Youth Leadership program which brings in leadership skills, teamwork and make them independent. Recently, camp day was passed and all the money collected on this day go to the foundation.
The movie begins with Simon Srebnik going back to Chelmno, he is one of the two survivors. He was taken to Chelmno when he was thirteen, his father was killed in front of him, and his mother died in the gas vans. He was known throughout the camp for his agility and his beautiful singing voice. Before abandoning the camp the Nazis shot everyone, including him, in the head. He was left for dead, but was found and survived. Simon went back to tell of the experience he had. He cannot believe what happened as he walks along what is left of the frame of the buildings. He said that 2,000 were burnt per day, but he remembers the camp as being peaceful. No one ever shouted, they just went about their work. He was forced to go up the river, under
While the service trip took place in the Northern US, there were pre-determined requirements that had to be met before we could embark, one of which was a minimum fundraised amount of $500. The money that was raised by this program went towards scholarships for other Kentucky residents to attend YMCA Conferences, where they have the chance to learn about democracy, kinship, and our community. I count this as community service because the YMCA changed my life by transforming an academic student into a servant leader. Providing the chance for someone else to be shaped into one of tomorrow's leaders is doing a service to my community. The third tier of my service goes towards the United States of America. An example of my service to America has already been noted in my ten day service trip to northern states where I helped shelve books with my peers and kinfolk who had fallen into unfortunate circumstances as well as re-vitalise YMCA Camp Y-Owasco through mulching over 5 miles of trails; however, a lesser noted service that many young adults seek is education. I firmly believe that the education of forthcoming generations is one of the greatest services that can be done for our
However, unlike the Box Tops for Education program, The Tom of Maines, “ Green Your School” Fundraiser, healthy relies on the participation of students and teachers to earn money without buying any products. Instead, students and teacher must design creative environmental innovations that’ll promote a healthy lifestyle and living clean to prevent any worsening of the earth. 7 winners are chosen for amazing creations and win up to $25,000 in classroom funding, which almosts equals that amount to the box top program earnings(Tom’s of Maine). The “ Green Your School” program should be a popular program for schools but the Box Tops program is more popular. Its more popular due to being easier for parents to contribute and less time
The community can help by providing research and funding on local, state, or federal government levels that support the programs that Continue Mission offers. We will partner with the community to organize and run drives to
Arizona’s extended drought is forcing water companies to take water from non-replenishable aquifers which take centuries to refill. Central Arizona needs to take drastic measures to reduce the amount of water consumed to ensure less water is drained from aquifers. A crucial measure which needs to be implemented is water conservation; some of these necessary water conservation methods include metering and increasing the water efficiency in agriculture.
Power relates to influence because in order for a person to be in a position where they have power, others must be dependent on them for one thing or another. The greater the subjects depend on the person, the more power a person has. When one is then in a position of power, they can influence others who are dependent on them in order for the needs of the dependent subjects to be satisfied. Influence cannot be exerted over people who are not dependent on the person, thus leaving that person without power.
Fresh water is a valuable resource in Texas and it is anticipated that over the next fifty years supply will cease to meet demand. The current state water plan has many inadequacies and is not considered to be very sustainable, cost-effective, or environmentally-sound. Basically for an estimated fifty three billion dollars, the plan proposes to build twenty six new reservoir sites and a series of long-haul water pipelines which would have environmentally damaging impacts (Hardberger). The state water plan does not account for some items that many environmentalists believe to be critical and mistakenly assumes that we will continue to use water in the same way for the next fifty years (Hardberger). The 2012 Texas State Water Plan should be
California’s water supply derives from multiple sources that comprise of surface water, ground water, recycled water, and desalinated seawater. These sources are either imported or are procured locally. Due to California entering its fifth consecutive drought year and global climate change looking to exacerbate drought conditions in the upcoming years, many water managers and environmentalists in the state are considering a new sustainable method that converts recycled water into drinking water. Direct Potable Reuse (DPR) is the emerging water supply method that may not only be drought resistant process, but may also provide high quality drinking water to many water districts in arid regions such as California. DPR would provide flexibility
There are two ways to deliver services in the organization. The organization has launched some programs for students which usually collaborates with or are sponsored by external organizations. The Jane Goodall Institute actively invites students to engage in the environment through workshops, field trips and other activities. Besides, young people can register as members of Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots. Members can prepare and implement their own projects with professional support and funding from
Through Captain Planet Foundation's help Clarence Galm Elementary school was able to start a school wide recycling program that involves all students in grades Pre K through fifth. Thought this program they were able to made students aware of how they can have a huge impact on saving the Earth. Kindergarteners at the school created a commercial in which
