The book that I chose to review was Summer ball by Mike Lupica. It is about a kid named Danny who let his basketball travel team to the league’s championship and won. The next year he is going to Right Way Basketball Camp, which is a camp designed for kids at the elite level of basketball. At this camp Danny’s friends are all in different groups, leaving him all alone. To make matters worse for Danny, all of the kids in his group are a lot bigger, faster, and skilled more than he is. This makes Danny start to regret coming to this camp. At the beginning of camp nothing is going right for Danny. His coach doesn't like him, his friends aren’t with him, and a boy named Rasheed Hill, whose team got beat by Danny’s team in the championship game
The book that I read was One Shot at Forever by Chris Ballard. This book is about a small town, Macon, and in this small town is a baseball program under the coaching of Mr. Sweet. Mr. Sweet and the players go on a journey playing baseball throughout Illinois.
Mike Lupica, ESPN commentator and well-known sports writer for young adults, wrote Summer Ball. Summer Ball is primarily set at Right Way Basketball Camp. The main character, Danny Walker, and his friends, Ty Ross, Will Stoddard, and Tarik Meminger go to Right Way along with boys from all over the country to improve their basketball skills. They also hope to make new friends and possibly catch the eye of college scouts over the length of summer camp. Right Way helps Danny learn how to prove himself against outside expectations and self-doubts. Danny experiences his troubles when his Right Way coach, Edward Powers, doesn 't believe in Danny and tries to break him down any way he can. Coach Powers represents all of Danny 's fears around basketball and his place as a basketball player. At Right Way Camp, Danny and his friends work hard and struggle through tough games in order to prove themselves as basketball players.
The book I read this month is called Heat. The author Mike Lupica did a really good job writing this story. “Heat” is about a boy named Mike and his brother Carlos, and how they find their way to live without any parents. Mike is probably the best pitcher on the Clippers, and in the league. Then a kid named Justin’s dad, the coach of the Giants had it out to get him out of the league. Just to help his team make it to the Little League World Series. Mike just dealt with it for a while, until he got back in the league, and got to pitch in the series.
I read the book Summer Basketball, by Mike Lupica. This book was about a thirteen year-old boy named Danny Walker. Danny is a very small kid for his age, and is asked to attend a summer basketball camp. When he first gets to the camp, things start to go bad for Danny right away. He is placed in a cabin with eleven and twelve year-old kids instead of kids his own age. While at camp, Danny met some new friends who enjoy the sport, but were also bigger than him. He begins to lose interest towards the end of the camp, and comes with a plan to fake an injury so he would get sent home and not have to play. However his best friend, Tess, has a cabin across the lake from his camp. He uses her for motivation because he doesn’t want to disappoint her.
When Jim White first moved to McFarland, him and his family didn’t like anything. He didn’t trust anyone, but when watching a few boys run to school, he realized that McFarland has potential. Once he started a cross country team, he had seven boys: Danny Diaz, Thomas Valles, Jose Cardenas, David Diaz, Johnny Sameneigo, Victor Puentes, and Damacio Diaz who had big hopes inside them.. Johnny also put a little faith in them by saying “It’s not the size of the dog in fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog.” Jim White really cared
During this book there is one character that really pops out, and his name is Owen Evans. Owen has a twin brother named Russell Evans, and the difference is that Owen is a basketball star who lights up the scoreboards, while Russell is the brainac powerhouse who rocks the school boards. Now in this story it mostly happens at the Evans household and The Lewis and Clark Middle School Pioneers. Owen in now a 7th grader at Lewis and Clark Middle, and he played at Cotter Elementary where they were undefeated (if you didn’t count there five loses, because the refs were out to get them.) Now that he is getting a new coach, Coach Baxter, he is afraid that he won’t make the team and that if he does he won’t start like he did last year. Later that day
In the essay, “School’s Out for Summer,” Anna Quindlen asserts that many children are not getting fed in the United States. “But only three million are getting lunches through the federal summer lunch program,” Anna informs as she theorizes that many more children are starving without the school’s free or reduced lunch during the Summer months. Although, the average person always considers the winter break to be the worst on the hungry; however, Anna argues differently saying, “but while the Christmas holidays make for the heartrending copy, summer is really ground zero in the battle to keep kids fed.” This is likely due to the fact that most working families receive Christmas bonuses during the Holiday break, but in the summer time those same
I heard the Mavericks ball kid team is the best in the NBA, and I would like to be apart of that team. Being a ball kid would be amazing, incredible, and a fascinating person to be! Especially since we get to serve the fans and assist the Mavericks staff! There are many reasons why I would like to become a ball kid and qualities I possess that would make me a good one!
Tom Chang describes his experiences working at a summer camp as a counselor in the passage, The Playground. Chang arrives at the camp and is very nervous about what is ahead of him. The author describes his apprehension and fears, stating on pages 35-36, "At first I had no idea how to handle routine problems like skinned knees, playground quarrels, and forgotten lunches. "
The book that i have picked up and read is “A View From Above” written by the late and great Wilt Chamberlain who was one of the best players to ever play in the NBA. What made me become interested in the book was that I knew who Wilt Chamberlain was being a big basketball fan I was interested by what he had to say and the cover was pretty cool with him being taller than the skyscrapers.

Do you know what it’s like to go through child starvation? In School’s Out for Summer by Anna Quindlen, she addresses the problem of child hunger in America. She believes that the people of America can make less fortunate people happier by giving back to them. It shouldn’t matter who you are, people should get the same treatment for themselves & their children. No child should have to wonder if they're going to eat at night.

Tiffany Dufu, in her 2017 book, Drop The Ball, shares an exercise where she asked her friends and colleagues to share a time when they remember her being her best self. It helped her determine what she does best and what is most important to her. Book is worth reading and although I haven’t tried this exercise, it is
