Summer Ball
By: Anya Lee Mike Lupica, ESPN commentator and well-known sports writer for young adults, wrote Summer Ball. Summer Ball is primarily set at Right Way Basketball Camp. The main character, Danny Walker, and his friends, Ty Ross, Will Stoddard, and Tarik Meminger go to Right Way along with boys from all over the country to improve their basketball skills. They also hope to make new friends and possibly catch the eye of college scouts over the length of summer camp. Right Way helps Danny learn how to prove himself against outside expectations and self-doubts. Danny experiences his troubles when his Right Way coach, Edward Powers, doesn 't believe in Danny and tries to break him down any way he can. Coach Powers represents all of Danny 's fears around basketball and his place as a basketball player. At Right Way Camp, Danny and his friends work hard and struggle through tough games in order to prove themselves as basketball players. Danny and his friends have never seen a place like Right Way. Danny, Will, and Ty live in Long Island, New York. A newer friend of theirs, Tarik, is from New York City. All four boys attend Right Way the summer they are transitioning from eighth grade to being high school freshmen. Right Way is located in Cedarville, Maine, which is several hours outside Portland, Maine. Right Way Camp is deep in the woods. As the boys ride to the camp on a bus, they are amazed at what they see. Tarik says, "Oh, this is where all the trees are."
I have never seen such ambitiousness and hope, I was amazed how strong everyone in the video were, not just Arthur and William ,but also their family and friends. Such attitude and hard work is what we real need to be successful. There were so many obstacles that were in both of the players yet they fought for what they love and their goals. The Hoop Dreams show how our system is set to only benefit those who have the money not those who have the dream and the skills. If william and Arthur had a stable financial, their life would have been so much easier to make it to the professional level. There are many issues that these two athletes faced in young aged, money, family issues, struggles in school are the common issues both Arthur Agee and William Gates faced.
Oh gosh!!! There were so many things wrong with this movie, I am not even sure where to begin. So, "Vacation" is the seventh in the "National Lampoon's Vacation" series, and this one should have most definitely remained in the ether. This newest offering is hallmarked by the deirectorial debut of John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstien, both of which have been tapped to write the newest Spider-Man reboot, which if this movie was any indication of what is to come, does in no way bode well for poor ol' Spidey.
Danny live in Middletown, Long Island with his parents, Richie and Ali Walker, who have recently reconciled after a long separation. Danny, like his father before him, is a star basketball player whose elite travel team won the national championship in their age group, largely behind the skills of Danny and his friends Will and Ty. But Danny has a serious concern — he is very short for his age and since his father is also less than 5'10" tall, he is unlikely to grow to be as tall as he'd like to be a better basketball player. In the beginning, his height didn't hold him back, but in the past year other boys have been getting taller and he is having trouble competing. He is also considerably shorter than his close friend, Tess Hewitt, on whom he has a not-so-secret crush, but their relationship has cooled since she began hanging out with a new boy who shares her interest in tennis.
An ‘outsider’ relates to a person who is ostracised, who does not belong to a particular group and is unaccepted. Director-writer Amy Heckerling portrayed several characters such as Tai and Cher as the outsider in her film in the same way S.E Hinton manifest Ponyboy Curtis and the gang, Greasers as the outcast of her novel ‘The Outsiders’. The Outsiders is a successful exploration and understanding of people who are unlike
The Civil War devastated families all across the United States. Hundreds of thousands of people died and for many years after, the nation was still divided and trying to figure out how to move forward. Irene Hunt learned of stories of the Civil War from her grandfather who served in the Civil War. Hunt’s book, Across Five Aprils, relates to her childhood because this novel is nothing but a story of the war from one family. This book hit home hard and revealed concepts of realism by examining the effects the war had on everyday life.
Chris Ruder a 39 year old founder of Wicker park house, a company that specializes in the production of spike balls made his debut on Shark tank. A spike ball retails at $53.00 on Amazon and last year, there were about 100 spike ball tournaments. Daymon John, the founder of FUBU and a shark and investor on ABC’s shark tan closed a $500,000 deal for 0 percent of the company. According to him, based on the fact that spike ball has grown from a local back yard sport to a nationwide sensation, it was an indication that it has potential to grow.
In the 1994 American documentary film Hoop Dreams, director Steve James and writers James and Frederick Marx explore various documentary elements such as relatable real life issues, musical tones, and interviews with honest opinions. Various relatable life issues can be seen in the documentary such as when Arthur's father leaves, Williams knee injury prevents him from playing sports, and the boys struggle academically, including when Arthur was unable to attend St. Joseph School and William strived to receive an ACT score of 18. Through the two boys life hardships, the audience is able to better identify and relate to the two teenagers. By seeing the two boys struggle through personal issues, the audience is able to create a deeper relationship with the characters, as they can see that the boys are not just basketball players, but real people with real problems. Furthermore, the audience is able to have sympathy, as well as empathy for the boys, as they can relate to the common day difficulties the boys face. In addition to this, the musical tones of the piece helps the audience identify moments of sadness as well as triumph in the boy's life. Due to the various music the audience is able to better understand how the boys were truly feeling in various parts of their life. Such can be seen when Arthur's dad leaves, and the mellow musical tone displays the despair Arthur felt in the moment. Additionally, the audience is able to identify moments of happiness with energetic music, such as when William finally receives his necessary ACT score. Moreover, a final documentary element can be seen with the interviews containing honest opinions. With the various interviews, all characters were able to discuss their honest opinions regarding their situations. In this, the audience is able to the identify that the opinions of the people being interviewed are their own and no one had led them to their conclusions. This can be displayed through various characters such as Arthur's mother being weary of her son’s full ride to university, and Williams brothers hope of his brother being a star basketball player. These documentary elements affect the overall tone and meaning of the piece as they both display how devastating and
April Morning is a story that describes the process of change in a time when Americans nation was developing. Due to its importance, Hollywood decided to make the movie based off of it with same name and theme. The story takes place during the Battle of Lexington on April 19, 1775. Adam Cooper is just 15 years old and lives in Lexington. Adam’s decision to sign the muster book for the militia is one of the key turning points of his sudden change from childhood into adulthood. Movie has exaggerated some scenes due to dramatic purpose. The movie is more focused on the summery of the novel. It does have it’s own similarities and differences. The characters were changed and taken off from the movie. I would recommend people to watch the movie and read the novel. Movie has its more emotional side than the novel. Simultaneously, novel has more details compared to the movie. Both, the movie and novel were able to depict a great tale of a child who fought for his country and became a man. Both make us realize how important this battle was to our history and culture.
In this paper I am going to write about the movie “Grease.” Specifically, on the two main characters Sandy and Danny. I will be describing and analyzing their interpersonal communication, but mainly on the conflict of their communication.
Sadness, Joy, Fear, Disgust and Anger. Five emotions felt by human beings on a regular basis. These five emotions are personified as characters in the movie “Inside Out”. The movie Inside Out is about an 11-year-old girl named Riley who is living a happy life until she moves with her family to San Francisco (Rivera, Docter, del Carmen, 2015). The movie displays these types of development in terms of memories, emotions, attention, humor and many other aspects. The purpose of this paper will be to explain why the movie Inside Out (2015) is appropriate for children ages 6 to 12 years of age in terms of their cognitive, social and linguistic development.
"Cold, shiny, hard, PLASTIC," said by Janice referring to a group of girls in the movie Mean Girls. Mean Girls is about an innocent, home-schooled girl, Cady who moves from Africa to the United States. Cady thinks she knows all about survival of the fittest. But the law of the jungle takes on a whole new meaning when she enters public high school and encounters psychological warfare and unwritten social rules that teen girls deal with today. Cady goes from a great friend of two "outcasts", Janice and Damien to a superficial friend of the "plastics", a group of girls that talks about everyone behind their back and thinks everyone loves them. Adolescent egocentrism and relationships with peers are obviously present throughout the film. I
Fight Club is a psychoanalytical film that addresses the themes of identification, freedom and violence. It acknowledges Freud’s principle which stresses that human behavior is the result of psychological conflicting forces and in order to analyze these forces, there needs to be a way of tapping into peoples minds. The narrator tells his personal journey of self-discovery through his alter ego and his schizophrenic experiences. The movie is told through a sequence of events is told through a flashback that starts with insomnia. Jack starts attending support groups for testicular cancer survivors that let him release his emotions and can finally is able to sleep at night. Although he
The film Little Miss Sunshine, Directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Farris, explores the lives of a regular American family and how they change their lives in front of us in the ‘Combie’ van on the road to the Little Miss Sunshine beauty pageant. The film examines the issues of winning and losing, and what it means to be a winner, throughout many sequences in the film as well as exploring the value of family. The directors and the cinematic team use an extreme range of camera techniques, costuming, and sound techniques to reshape our understanding of winning and losing in the world we live in today.
The ring itself measures to be 19.4mm in inner hoop diameter, 29mm in outer hoop diameter and weighs 11.29g. It consists of both rectilinear and organic designs when taking the ring as a circle, and the designed frame as a rectangle into consideration. The Ring is completely symmetrical, showcasing expert craftsmanship in the arrangement of the balanced pearls all around the ring and symmetric angles of the box proportions. Even the small figure in the ring is symmetrical, possessing realistic qualities and life-like body proportions. Additionally, the circlet of the ring itself is also unique. The goldsmith displayed his incredible craftsmanship of the ring by designing the piece with two rounded indentations towards the back of the ring. This technique presents the incredible handiwork that went into the creation of this ring.
Last year, the Hollywood film Noah was released. Obviously I was intrigued, so I called up my Pastor and some friends and planned to go to the cinema to see it. As many sources claimed, I can agree that this is certainly one of the least Biblical, Biblical films ever made. Of course the actual story of Noah in the bible is not very long, so it was to be expected that the producers would add some filler “Hollywood” action, but how much of Noah is actually based on the text that appears in the Old Testament, and how much is fantastical movie magic?
