In his short story Mr. Perez is the main character who is from a little town called Brownsville’s located in the board of Texas and Mexico. Sam Anderson frantically searched for the tie in the extremely disorganized home of the Marquez family. Tonight, she had reluctantly agreed to volunteer for the role of dressing and preparing the couples’ oldest son, Joel, who was now eight years of age, for their youngest son’s first birthday. Joel Marquez contained an overwhelming amount of trickery and holy terror for an eight year old boy, most of which was targeted at Sam, his babysitter. Sam asked Joel nearly every two minutes if he had seen the tie recently. Every time he giggled, and answered no.

In Richard Rodriguez “Scholarship Boy” the audience notices several tensions throughout his experiences; and how they affect his upbringing to become the man he is today. Rodriguez’s two most important levels of tension were, his homelife home where he separates himself from his family while feeling a form of anger towards them. Rodriguez distances himself from his peers despite his educational success, nevertheless he thrives in his studies in the classroom. Since he is so dedicated on his studies he lacks time to interact with them because his free time is spent reading.
Bartolomé de Las Casas was born in Seville, Spain in 1474. His father joined Columbus second voyage and in 1502 Las Casas became part of the journey. The purpose of the father and son voyage was to replace Columbus as a royal governor of Hispaniola (Las Casas 9). When they arrive Las Casas saw the reality of his people mistreating, torturing, and enslaving the Taino Indians. He felt that the Indians did not deserve this kind of treatment and that he begins to write the things he would see. His book, The Very Brief Relation of the Devastation of the Indies, vividly describes a more gruesome treatment of the indigenous people ruled by the Spaniard. Even though it was his people. He wanted to reach the royal administration of Spain to change this
On September 6, 2015 a man tried to carve his name into a wall at the Alamo. The man was caught and taken to jail. He was faced with many charges.
On September 11, 2001 American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower of the World Center. William Rodriguez, a simple janitor, was considered a hero because he had played an important role in the 9/11 incident. He had helped many people evacuate the building for safety. He bravely led the firefighters up the building unlocking the doors, knowing that the building could have collapsed. He kept on going up the building helping people that needed his help, and as a result, he was able to help hundreds of people survive. Heroes don’t have to be super heroes, they are people who take risk and a lot of courage to help others.
I will present today the reasons why I chose this short story called “House Taken Over” by Julio Cortazar. A story not related directly with my culture which is Dominican but it is Hispanic which could be the same in some aspects. First of all, this is a story set in Argentina and it centers on a brother and his sister. The siblings lived in a big family home, which has been in the family for generations. Both of them are in their forties and have never been married. They spend their days cleaning and then doing what makes them happy. She knits all day and the brother loves to read French Literatures. The following quote would be a physical memory of the brother remember his days in his house “It was a pleasant to take a lunch and commune with the great hollow, silent house, and it was enough for us just to keep it clean. We ended up thinking, at times, that that was what had kept us from marrying. Irene turned down two suitors for no particular reason, and Maria Esther went and died on me before we could manage to get engaged” (Cortazar, p.689). One night they heard noises and they refused to go where the noises are originated from, therefore they decided to leave the house and basically left us with the question of who took over their house? I made some connections between this story and my culture back to my childhood. All those anecdotes that my parents and grandparents used to tell me about the way how people lived before and actually now. The FEAR always has been

How many opportunities do we lose because of fears, unreasonable wariness? Our frights sound distinctively, telling everyone something unique, unlike, special. However, its only action is to hide and paralyze our will. Fear is the natural reaction caused by the environment. Fears arise as a reaction to certain events. And the root of all of them is the conviction that we are not able to cope with life. But for any person, it is very important to be able to overcome fear, because otherwise he will not be able to achieve in his life any, even the smallest heights, not to mention achieving success or realizing ones dreams. Fear is a signal that says something needs to be changed for a harmonious and effective life. And only we decide: to deal with our fears, to live happily and to embody our intentions, or to be afraid of leverage, to forget about intentions and dreams, and to react, to spend our strength on how to hide fears deeply from us and others. The short stories “House Taken Over” by Julio Cortazar the characters are followed by fear and as the final result they lose a house. In addition, “The Old Chief Mshlanga” by Doris Lessing plays a contrast role to the previous story where young lady Nkosikaas obtains the feeling to be at home by overcoming her fear. These two stories have a mutual theme of fear; however, each story’s character performs it uniquely.
Richard Rodriguez had faced a lot of problems that most students in America do not have to deal with. Richard had to deal with parents that couldn’t help him in school and wanting to be successful academically. He had become embarrassed of his background and where he came from and did not want to embrace his culture.
What drives people to undertake missions? For example, Ernesto wanted to learn english, go to school, and not give up so Ernesto came to America to go to school, learn english, and not give up. Annie Johnson did not give up and Annie made her own business and without this business Annie would not have money and would not be able to handle her childrens. Monica had more responsibilities to do because Monica wanted a little brother. Individuals are driven to undertake missions because for example one of the motivation of the first story was to learn english and go to school and be successful, another motivation was to make money to support a family, and the last motivation was that someone wanted a little brother.
On April 28, 2015 we took our yearly Portland, Oregon trip to pick up my sister from college. The day we departed Maui was coincidentally Rosaline’s special day, her birthday. It was hard as I left the island knowing that it was her birthday. Three days later on May 1, 2015 we were reunited with my sister, Danae, and on a road trip between Portland and Washington. The travel of funniest has ended. Jokes, laughs, smiles, they all came to a rapid halt. My grandmother, Rosaline’s daughter, accompanied us and suddenly received a phone call. The Maui Police Department called and said that my great grandma Deponte had passed away a few hours prior. No emotion came from my family and no tears left my eyes once we heard the devastating news; we were just completely shocked! At the time, she had been staying at an old folks home called “Roselani Place” in Kahului. Luckily, one of my family members in Maui was available and rushed down to be with her. Ballards Family Mortuary had been at Roselani, and gently held my petite grandma until my aunty Lesli Otani arrived.
When Kristina and Brandon got married they decided to open a CrossFit Prevail Gym in McHenry Illinois. Brandon dressed and went downstairs to eat breakfast then headed out the door to get to the gym to coach the 5am WOD class at the gym then head to his job afterward. When Brandon left it was 4:45am Kristina lied back down and fell back to sleep. When the second alarm went off at 6:45am Kristina found a little munchkin in bed with her it was Chase. He had snuck into her room to give her morning cuddles. After morning snuggles both Kristina and Chase got up and went to wake the girls for school. Running in and jumping on his sisters Chase finally awoke them and they all headed down stairs for breakfast. While all three children ate their cereal and watch cartoons. Kristina went up to take a quick shower and dress herself to take the kiddos to school. After finishing their cereal, the three children all went upstairs to get dressed. Madison the oldest dressed herself, made herself a lunch and packed her bag for school. As Madison was finishing packing her bag Makenna came down the stairs to pack her bag. After dressing Chase Kristina came down stairs to help her children. Kristina made Makenna a lunch and packed Chase a snack for preschool. “Get your shoes on” Kristina yelled as she turned off the lights and television. By the time that everyone got out of the house and into the car
