The old adage “You only have one time to make a first impression” is so important to remember, especially in the interview process. Last week I sat in on three interviews for an Administrative Assistant position. All three candidates were internal applicants. It was obvious from the start that two of the candidates had not clearly read the job description and were not taking the interview process seriously. They came into the conference room just like they were walking in to the office on any other day. One candidate even greeted the panel with a “hey y’all.” While I am a frequent user of the “hey y’all” greeting in an informal setting, it was inappropriate to assume this greeting was acceptable to being an interview.
