When the storyline moves in a subjective narration, the viewers tend to become closer to the character who narrates the story from his viewpoint. Many of the films fall under the mix of objective and subjective narration, where halfway through the films the narration shifts from either subjective to objective or the other way round. Particularly in the 1941 American mystery film Citizen Kane, the film moves into a nonlinear storyline. When a group of journalists starts investigating about the life of the protagonist, the movie falls into the objective narration, but when the other characters in the movie are interviewed, then their point of views including the flashbacks will be presented through a subjective narration. Similarly to the case
Another effective technique demonstrated by Niccol is the first person narration by the central character, Vincent. This is important for the development in the movie, as Vincent is the protagonist we are encouraged to empathise with. Therefore, the use of bias narration and perspective is effective in supporting the ideas presented in the film.

Slaughterhouse-Five: The Novel and the Movie In 1972 director George Roy Hill released his screen adaptation of Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse-Five (or The Children's Crusade; A Duty Dance With Death). The film made over 4 million dollars and was touted as an "artistic success" by Vonnegut (Film Comment, 41). In fact, in an interview with Film Comment in 1985, Vonnegut called the film a "flawless translation" of his novel, which can be considered an honest assessment in light of his reviews of other adaptations of his works: Happy Birthday, Wanda June (1971) "turned out so abominably" that he asked to have his name removed from it; and he found Slapstick of Another Kind (1984) to be
Dramatic monologue and 1st person narrative – gives a biased view point, which creates sympathy for the narrator.
Citizen Kane uses mise-en-scene is multiple scenes to help tell the narrative. A perfect example is when the parents
looks at how the director choose to introduce the situation the characters face, the conflict that happens and the resolution of the story.
Nathaniel Hawthorne, as an admirer of psychology, uses a distinctive theme of moral ambiguity amongst his characters in the novel The Scarlet Letter. The characters, in particular Hester Prynne, Arthur Dimmesdale, and Roger Chillingworth, are rather difficult to classify as either good or bad; they are simply human. Hawthorne’s moral ambiguity amongst these characters makes them more relatable to real human beings and serves as a clear portrayal of the complex human psyche. One can not be defined as simply bad or good; humans are much more complex than these two binary words which is why Hawthorne’s realization of moral ambiguity is quite profound.
The Departed, a film written by William Monahan, Alan Mak, and Felix Chong, directed by Martin Scorsese, was in my opinion a spectacular crime-thriller deserving of less criticism from overly sentimental viewers. Though this film is in some scenes brutal and vicious, I praise Martin Scorsese’s refusal to cower away from the undeniable truth that organized crime in the United States is murderous in nature just to satisfy certain viewers as critics advocated he should. Being a four time Oscar winning film with sixty-three other awards for numerous aspects in the movie industry, I don’t believe anyone can contradict that The Departed is profoundly unforgettable to masses of moviegoers.
Charles Kane, a newspaper mogul, died at his home in Xanadu. His last dying words were ‘Rosebud’ which no one had any idea what they meant. A newspaper reporter is given the task to investigate what the word meant. He had to interview many people including Kane’s friends like Jedediah Leland and his concubine Susan Alexander who only shed some light on the mystery of Kane’s life but no information about the Rosebud word. Citizen Kane is the movie that has received lot applause for centuries despite flopping at the box office in 1941. The narrative structure line non-linear form, the mise-en-scene composition, and the cinematography put the film in high regard.
A narrative is an order in which something is put. there is often a reason behind this order. Directors frequently use flashbacks to show previous stories or a passing of time to the audience (Bordwell and Thompson 79). Character and time help the audience to make sense of a narrative and allows them to speculate about what is about to come. Some different narrative theories suggest ways in which stories are commonly put together. A linear narrative has the simple beginning, middle and end story line and the story will flow chronologically from beginning to end (Bordwell and Thompson 85). A non-linear narrative is a narrative that does not follow a regular beginning-middle-end pattern where the storytellers often change the order of events (Bordwell and Thompson 80). This
An example of this is in the beginning of the story when she states “I get unreasonably angry with John sometimes.” (Perkins-Gilman, 1899). This shows that the narrator does not know why she feels or thinks the way she does sometimes. This may indicate to the reader that she is not the most reliable person. The reader can know this also by seeing how her feelings towards things change so rapidly. First, she hates the yellow wallpaper. She says “The wallpaper, as I said before, is torn off in spots, and it sticketh closer than a brother- they must have had perseverance as well as hatred,” “But I don’t mind it a bit- only the paper.” (Perkins-Gilman, 1899). She shows complete opposition but as time goes by, it changes. Later on, she states, “I’m getting really fond of the room in spite of the wallpaper, perhaps because of the wallpaper.” (Perkins-Gilman, 1899). According to the narrator, she is starting to feel better due to the wallpaper and she is fascinated by finding new things about the patterns she likes about the
As I continue through my third year of my Art History Major, I find not only my knowledge but also my mind expanding into a broader range of relevance to my career and life goals. Art History is the study of social, economic, religious and political components, which shape history through aesthetics. Studying the environment and events that influence the artworks produced throughout history has drawn me to the history of Christianity and its effects on First Nations peoples in Canada. I come from a multicultural family where I share Beaver Lake Cree heritage from my Father and Catholicism from my Mother. The contrast between these two belief systems has brought my interest to understand events that occur and have taken place to those who I have met, and also their ancestors.
When comparing Gone Girl to Memento, each composer utilises a non-linear narrative to achieve suspense for the responders. Memento, uses a complex introduction with an analepsis structure and creates the driven anxiety which is needed to finish the film. Nolan places the ending of the film at the beginning to propel the story by revealing segments of information to the audience. He stated that; "by withholding information from the audience you withhold from the protagonist, it places them in their head". (cite documentary)
There have been many studies on the subject of leadership and many different arguments or studies on the different styles of leadership. There are those that believe that leadership is something that one is born with and not something that is taught. Most professionals become familiar with their respective leadership style as well as the leadership style of others over a period of time. Research suggests leadership is a balanced combination of task and people concerns and orientation. Some say there is no one style of leadership suitable to all possible situations. Therefore, what is desired is the ability of a leader to choose the style of behavior that best fits the situation at hand (Kostovski, Bojadjiev, & Buldioska, 2015). This case study discusses the leadership behavior of two leaders, Ben Samuels and Phil Jones. (Yuki, 2012) categorizes Ben and Phil as demonstrating a task behavior or a relation’s behavior style of leadership.
