Pretending to be someone who you are not starts to take a toll on the real you. The movie Catfish, directed by Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost, was first released September 17, 2011. Nev Schulman who is a New York photographer, receives a Facebook request from a young child named Abby. Abby is a painter who sends a painting to Nev based off of one of his photos. Nev starts to develop an online relationship with Abby and the rest of her family. Including her older sister Megan. Megan and Nev hit it off slowly becoming more intimate. The online flirtation leads to some erratic implications that results in Nev packing his bags to meet Megan in person. He has phone calls with her mother and Abby herself. The movie takes a slow but yet suspenseful route. Eventually, Megan, who is Abby’s older sister, friends Nev on Facebook. They begin to excessively message each other. The directors film this to show how serious the relationship is starting to develop. They use an up close film analysis to give the audience a better feel for what the character is going through. The director's use the cinematography to add to the movies message. Throughout the film, the directors keep a main focus on Nev. They do a series of interviews of him and other characters like Megan, who is also the main focus of the film. Slowly, Nev starts to notice that Megan isn’t being all that truthful.
Surprisingly, Nev discovers that Megan is actually Angela the mother of Abby. They film some of the other family members as well like Abby and her father to get a better understanding as to why Angela
(Megan) is doing what she is doing. As the film goes on it is easy to develop empathy for Nev. You can see the struggle that Nev is experiencing, he starts to develop serious feelings for this
