An instance of learned helplessness is Joe’s case study. Joe’s father constantly beat him during his childhood. He never knew what sparked his father’s outbursts. Joe spent most of his childhood waiting for the tidal wave of his father’s rage and knowing there was no way to avoid it. As a result, Joe developed learned
Recently, I was reading an article that is called “The Funny Thing About Adversity” which is written by David DeSteno who is a psychology professor at Northeastern University. DeSteno’s purpose is to convince the reader that experiencing hardship makes a person sympathetic or unsympathetic depending on the case of hardship that person has experienced, and being a compassionate does not occur by chance. DeSteno makes two primary claims: one is by illustrating that if an individual has lived through unpleasant events, that person will be familiar with the difficult situations involved, which would lead a person to be sympathetic. The second claim is that it is incorrect to believe if someone has experienced the same struggle that you experienced, he might not lend a hand due to the fact that there is a glitch in the human’s mind that makes people forget about their own past hardships.
The newsletter published by the Dulwish Centre explores the concept of Just Therapy in an application to family therapy. Bronchitis COPD is a productive cough for at least 3 months along with airway obstruction. This condition would likely result in the clinical finding of crackles, wheezing, sputum production, and hypoxia and abnormally elevated carbon dioxide retention at rest. Bronchitis COPD involves inflamed airways obstructed by mucus whereas emphysematous COPD involves destruction of terminal airways leading to decreased space for gas exchange. In emphysematous COPD, one would have shortness of breath, dyspnea and may appear barrel chested. Also, hypoxia and hypercarbia aren’t as prominent in emphysematous COPD as in bronchitis COPD.
Weakness is seen as a physical incapability, in which the incapability does not allow a person to succeed in anything they participate in. However, a person is not only weak because of their physical limitations, but also a result of a mental dysfunction. People with a physical incapability may be able to overcome their obstacle because their mind is strong and powerfully installed with the modes of determination and perseverance. Whereas, a mentally incapable person does not have the drive to accomplish what they want because they make themselves believe that they are not worthy enough or do not live within reality which allows those to suffer with the truth of life. Authors Tennessee Williams and Truman Capote exercised their talents thematically by allowing their characters to have set physical and or mental weakness, that hindered them, making those characters social outcasts and only allowed the characters to move back instead of forward throughout the play or story in which they wrote.
Throughout life people are put into difficult situations. Whether it is for work, school or just simply on a day-to-day basis. People can even find themselves in difficult situations they do not necessarily want to be in. For some, it is easy to dismiss the situation that they are in, but for others in nearly impossible. Dracula, The Maze Runner, and The Hunger Games all show that people can be put into difficult situations, but sometimes not by their own free will.

Bipolar Disorders are considered complex because of the episodes that are experienced. They include dysfunctional mood, potentially including major depressive episodes, mild to moderate depressive episodes, manic episodes, hypomanic episodes, and mixed episodes, which are often separated by periods of relatively normal mood. (BDII). There are two types of Bipolar Disorders that I will cover in this paper. They include Bipolar I disorder (BP-I) and Bipolar II disorder (BD-II).According to the Epidemiologic Catchment Area Study, as cited by Kleinman, Lowin, Flood, Gandhi, Edgell, and Revicki (2003), the lifetime prevalence by race and ethnicity for BD - I and BD - II, are as follows: Caucasian 0.8% and 0.4%, African American 1.0% and 0.6%, and Hispanic 0.7% and 0.5%.. Lifetime prevalence rate for Bipolar I is 0.6%and bipolar II it is 0.3% over a 12-month period (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). People who have Bipolar I disorder typically experience alternating episodes of depression and mania where there is a separation of some level of ‘normalcy’ in the sequence (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). For example, they might be depressed for 4 days feel normal for a couple of days than go into a manic episode. On the other hand, those with Bipolar II disorder they only experience depressive episodes and will not have an episode of mania.
The effects of World War I was the main reason that allowed the rise of Adolf Hitler. Germans thought at that voting for Adolf Hitler as their leader was the right choice at that time. When World War I ended, Adolf Hitler blamed Jews and Marxist describing that he felt they stabbed him in the back. During post war years of World War, Hitler used it as an opportunity because Germany was left with many issues. “Several right-wing groups had formed that offered extreme solutions to Germany's problems and that threatened the newly formed parliamentary government of the Weimar Republic” (). Hitler first joined the Workers’ Party and rose as a leader to this party which was the birth of the Nazi Party. Nazism was a political party who was against the Democratic Party. “According to Nazi doctrine, the political order should be dominated by a single party headed by a dictatorial leader (Hitler) who appealed to the masses” (697).
Rehabilitation technology services are utilized to assist clients who need technology to eliminate barriers to employment. The technology is all items that maintain, improve, or enhance the functional capabilities of clients with disability. These services can include mobility aide devices, vehicle modifications, prosthetics, hearing aids, and equipment for the visually impaired. These services are based on the needs of the client and vary. According to research, rehabilitation technology is a significant service for individuals who cope with multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, and cancer survivors (Chiu, Chan, Bishop, Cardoso, & O’Neil, 2013; Huang, et al., 2013; Strauser et al, 2010). These individuals and other clients utilize the technology to provide the necessary accommodations that they may
Living with disabilities on a daily basis can be more difficult then some realize. Many people who are born with developmental disabilities start their education and therapy at a very young age and there are also those people who have been diagnosed with a disability sometime during their lifetime. But what is there for them to do once they have graduated from high school or are told they are too old to continue in a regular school or they are simply told they aren’t accepted in the “normal” community? In all reality there really
If you told me in 2002 that 15 years later, Donald Trump would be our President, Kid Rock would be running for Senate, and Eminem would become a celebrity spokesperson for human rights, I would have laughed you out of the room. This sounds more like content for a Saturday Night Live skit than reality. But here we are; truth really is stranger than fiction.
