How ICT effects learning in schools: A Review
Abstract: Nowadays, Digital world is constantly evolving. Nearly every aspect of human life is affected by ICT i.e. from working to socialising, learning to playing, sharing to conferencing, one cannot think without information technology. The technological ages has changed the ways through which people communicate, meet, seek help, search and access information and even learn and take exams also. Online population uses many devices like computers, TV and mobile phones to achieve their goals. This paper discusses how ICT effects today our learning and how the schooling has been changing day by day.
Keywords: Multimedia, internet, video- conferencing, telecommunications.

2.2 Strengths and Weaknesses of ICTs As it is a law of nature, every creation has its own merits as well as demerits, so, ICTs also have strengths and weaknesses. One must be aware of its strengths in order to avail its full facilities in an optimized way. By the same time one must know its weaknesses to avoid its improper use. Some of the strengths of the ICTs are:-
Individualization of learning: Using ICTs, one do not need a large group for learning.
Interactivity: Learner can start at any point depending upon its prior knowledge instead of always in a sequential way. Different learners can have different speeds and times to learn.
Low cost per person: ICTs reduce the cost of education from very high to very low. Learner can very easily afford.
Distance and climate insensitive: ICT can provide education anywhere and anytime. It does not matter where learner is or how the weather is.
High speed delivery, wide reach at low cost: There is instant delivery of information.
Uniform quality: It provides the same content and same quality of information with same format, speed and cost to each
Having the ICT technology in schools it encourages the pupils to access a wide range of information and communication opportunities and enables pupils to store and retrieve, draft and redraft, test and analyse. This develops there learning skills that are required for the National Curriculum. These skills include: Communication skills, problem-solving, investigating, evaluating and analysing and critical
Education in today’s society is extremely different from education in the past. The subjects that are being taught in schools such as math, science, and history are still the same, but the implementation of technology has completely changed education. According to Anastasia Jenkins a freshman at Sowela Technical Community College, “Technology can encourage a child to have a more active participation which can be hard to achieve through a traditional lecture environment (Jenkins).” No one learns the same because due to different learning styles and different abilities. Technology provides more opportunities to make learning more effective for everyone with
In today’s society, technology plays a major factor in the way people operate in their daily lives. Technology is being used as a tool for people to improve their surroundings. People having quick and easy access to a large amount of information anytime they want. With the rapid growth of technology, schools and teachers around the world have implemented many different forms of technology to enhance student interest and achievement. This has entered into teaching methods such as online testing, online reading assignments, research information and many others. The use of technology in school nowadays has become inevitable, but some may argue that the increase use of technology has harmed the development and learning of the students. This leaves people wondering if technology should be
This report is about the impacts of technology on education. It aims to allow more people to understand the importance of technology for education through the information provided and also the negative site of technology.

Education is among the sectors that have benefited the most from the advent of modern technology, and especially information and communication technology (ICT). Traditional education systems faced many challenges and huge limitations at delivery, in practice, and in application. Tools of education such as chalk, blackboard, books, classrooms, laboratory items, and so on, were mostly manual and cumbersome. Even the structure of the traditional literature content, and pedagogy was a challenge to both the teacher and the learner.
There is much in the literature regarding the use of technology in education. According to Dede (2009), Banister (2010), Peled and Schocken (2014), my topic can be characterized as technology in education is an effective tool for motivating student engagement, increasing academic success, and providing new environments for students to learn. Thus, the more technology that is incorporated in a students’ earlier grades, the more inclined they will be to prefer that type of instruction in their latter years. It is an important topic with respect to education because the wave of new technology is increasing at rate never before seen in the field of education. These articles track the study of technology use in the field, and how they are beneficial for my study of technology in education. All of the articles support the idea of the use of technology in education, and each represent a different aspect in which technology can improve a child’s education.
The present era has progressed not only in terms of education but also in the department of information technology. People usually resort into using technology for a faster way of communication, to progress in work and in education. Some colleges and universities have implemented the different kinds of technology for purposes of developing a student’s skills and abilities. “Technology is seen in several forms from the simple functions of a calculator used in mathematics to the most complicated computers and technological gadgets” (Flannagan L.J., pg. 07). However, alongside the positive advantages of technology and advanced computer system, there is also a negative side or disadvantages causing problems that need to be solved. While the “ideal goal for educators is to implement technology in the classroom and see definite positive affects on student achievement” (Flannagan L.J., pg. 09). We are living in a world filled with high tech gadgets in the current time like ipads, social media such as twitter, facebook, tumbr and google.
"Digital technologies are electronic tools, systems, devices and resources that generate, store or process data. These include social media, online games and applications, multimedia, productivity applications, cloud computing, interoperable systems and mobile devices" (Victoria State Government, n.d.). Thus, many people think digital technology and education has connected with each other. They believe that the school is making students learning and spreading the knowledge of society, and digital technology is "providing skills for students to be better understand the theory idea, information, and intelligent behaviour" (Woolf, Lane, Chaudhri and Lolodner, 2013). Digital technology also could help the teacher to develop the personalized educational programs for individuals or groups of students, and even help students use a range of learning styles and methods. Thus, in this essay, I will discuss the problems and the role of digital technology in education, and find some ideas could help the school in the future through digital technology.
Technology can help students in all areas of study. Students need to be able to use this technology since, “Currently and in the near future, it is understood that students need to acquire more autonomous skills of ‘information gathering, analysis, and display’” (Todnem, 2004, p. 1). Furthermore, the use of technology, mainly the internet, provides for variation since “Students find themselves bored and burnt-out of the lecture format to classes, so changing the curriculum and instruction to include things like online assignments and educational videogames can be one clear remedy” (Todnem, 2004, p. 1). Teachers who have implemented technology into their classrooms have noticed changes in their students. The most common of these effects being an increase in motivation. In “Effects of Technology on Classrooms and Students” another positive effect is given “technology effect stressed by many teachers was enhancement of student self esteem” (“Effects,” 2004, p. 2).
Secondly, technology allows for differentiated learning. Students can go back to re-visit information and learn at a pace best suited. "Information technologies can permit them to break step with the class and go at a pace and order that suits that student better" ("Reasons for Technology in the Classroom") When a student is absent from classes or a student does not comprehend certain information, he/she can re-visit information with the use of technology in the classroom. With the ability to learn at their own pace, students will achieve more academically and overall become better student. "20 different students-each different learner with unique skills and talents. Technology helps students learn in the ways that are best equipped for
The field of education globally has been affected by ICT in one way or another which has affected teaching, learning, and research (Yusuf, 2005). ICT has the potential to accelerate and deepen the skills to motivate and engage students to work practices and create economic viability for tomorrow 's workers (Davis and Tearle, 1999; Lemke and Coughlin, 1998; cited by Yusuf, 2005).
The power of technology provides different approaches to learning and enables lifelong learning in students. Many students have access to internet information and other resources on a daily basis. This enables them to share information and ideas with people from all over the world. It promotes collaboration and allows students to learn new things.
A child’s mind is always growing, with the advancement of technology, it will raise to new heights. Finding the most efficient way to teach and learn, has been an ongoing debate since the beginning of education. Since then, education has gone a long way. Students have gone from learning on chalkboards and memorizing all the information they learned, to having individual computers where they have access to tools to write, learn and communicate. But with all these new tools, many essential skills may be lost. Being reliant on online communication means that real face to face interactions will be gone. Children will not learn the valuable social skill that they will need when they grow up. Although this may be true, incorporating more technology into learning can lead to a more efficient and passionate education. Environmental technology will hugely enhance future technology.
Several studies admit the ICT is essential for providing opportunities for students to learn and to operate in an
