“With the first pick of the 2019 Major League Baseball draft, the Colorado Rockies select catcher Steve Martin from Costal High School in Los Angeles, California.” These were the words that changed Steve’s life forever. As a four-year varsity-starting catcher for his high school, Steve was destined for greatness as soon as he stepped onto the field. His coach John Martin described the 6’2” 210 pound player as “the greatest athlete he’s ever had the pleasure to coach,” and that Steve was a “unique physical specimen.” Whenever he set foot on the diamond Steve was always at least two or three steps ahead of the competition. He was told he’d be moving up to the Rockies after playing in the final game of the season. “It was the best news I’ve ever heard aside from the day I got drafted,” said Martin, “but it came on the worst day of my life.” After playing three solid innings at catcher, a ball was hit up in the air and Steve sprinted towards the stands to try and make the catch, he failed to notice a practice bat on the ground near the stands. Expertly focused on the ball, instead of looking down to checked his surroundings, Steve kept running and ended up tripping on the bat, collapsing in a heap next to his team’s bench. The trainer rushed out and ultimately Steve had to be carried off the field in a stretcher. “The whole time I was thinking to myself, please don’t be my ACL,” Steve recalled. After a visit with the team doctor and a specialist in New York City, it was concluded that his ACL was torn, as well as his MCL, and meniscus. Extensive surgery would be required and Steve would be out of commission for at least a year. Manager for the Isotopes stated that, “I could the see the devastation in his eyes, he’s someone who loved the game so much and it hurt both me and him to see it taken away from him so easily.” After going through the surgery and months off rehab, Steve’s knee still had irreparable damage and after several long meetings with medical staff, it was decided that Steve wouldn’t be able to return to professional

The Calvary Christian dugout erupted as Johnny Field hit a walk-off homerun to win the Florida High School Baseball Championship, which was the biggest game of the year. Scotty Stanton, the Columbus Explorers center fielder, walked off the field in misery. “I can’t believe I went 0-4 in front of all these pro scouts,” Stanton muttered. After the two teams lined up to shake hands after a hard fought game, Field approached Stanton, “So much for being the number one player in the state Scotty, maybe those scouts were looking for a bat boy, because that’s all you will ever be.” Stanton watched the scouts walk up to Field and introduce themselves. The scouts did not say one word to Stanton, who was projected to be drafted in this upcoming MLB Draft.

Throughout the entire story, similarities are easily spotted, but as the end comes into sight all the difference are made clear. The stories branch off into two different endings. My breakfast started to creep back up my throat as game time got closer and closer. I walked across the patch of grass behind home plate and was towered over by the 30 foot backstop with a huge net suspended from it. My bulging bag of equipment was beginning to make my shoulder hang. I walked down the steps into the cement dugout and placed my bag under the bench that spanned the entire length of the dugout. I sat down, laced up my cleats, and put my warm-up jacket on in preparation for batting practice. I stepped onto the grass surrounding the dugout to get the feeling of how wet the grass was. I dug my cleats into the grass and began my usual routine of taking certain practice swings as I gazed upon the press box in the wake of the backstop. Preceding the burn in my forearms, caused from the practice swings, I marched behind the dugout to the rows of batting cages to wait my turn in line. Pacing back and forth I knew I had to keep my nervousness to a minimum. I popped in a wad of Big League Chew and continued to
In recent years, 50 Cent has experienced more success in outside ventures as opposed to what initially propelled him into superstardom, the music. He has released several mixtapes such as "The Big 10," "The Lost Tape," "5 (Murder By Numbers)," and his full-length LP, "Animal Ambition". Unfortunately, none of those projects generated enough buzz to place 50 Cent back at the forefront of Hip-Hop culture, which led many to question his ability to make quality music in today's landscape.
