! Throughout most of our lifetime on Earth many have pondered the thought of how they and the things around them have been created. They wondered what makes grass grow to what makes themselves grow mentally and physically. Through extensive research and major advancements in technology over these years, decades, and centuries we still have no answer to our own questions. But, we do however have a better grasp on the subject. Stem cell research is the study of undifferentiated and differentiated cells in order to aid human beings.
Stem cells are the an undifferentiated cell of a multicellular organism that is capable of giving rise to more cells of the same type, and from which other kinds of cells arise by differentiation.
There are thee unique properties to stem cells. One property is that they are able to divide and refresh themselves for lengthy amounts of time. Another property is that they are unspecialized meaning that they it is not committed to a special function. Finally another property would be that they can activate other cells in order to assign them specific functions.
Embryonic cells are cells that have been taken form embryos. Adult cells are stem cells that can be found in both children and adults. The difference between the two cells are the amount of differentiating they both can do. Embryonic cells can differentiate more cells than adult cells.
Stem cells are a special group of cells found in all multicellular organisms. What makes them unique and different from other cells is the fact that they are unspecialized and have the potential to differentiate into diverse cell types while still maintaining the ability to replenish themselves. Generally, these cells are divided into 2 broad categories – the embryonic stem cells that are derived from the inner cell mass of the blastocyst and the adult stem cells that are harvested from the bone marrow, umbilical cord blood or the adipose tissue of an adult.
unfortunately the embryonic stem cell is a topic of serious heated debate. It has the most
They have the ability to self-renew or multiply while maintaining the potential to develop into cells. Such as cells blood, heart, bones, skin, muscles, brain etc. Stem cells have an interesting history that has been somewhat tainted with debate and controversy. In the mid-1800s it was discovered that cells were basically the building blocks of life and that some cells had the ability to produce other cells.
Embryonic stem cells, according to the National Institute of Health, are cells obtained from embryos that are prepared from fertilized eggs which have been collected through the in vitro technique; in specialized clinics. Scientists use the stem cell research to have a better idea about the evolution, aging, and disease. Thus, they keep track of the stem cells progress across the lifetime; this tracking process can help scientists to figure out the genetic mutations of malfunctioned cells in many diseases. However, the stem cell research is controversial among the society. There is a part of the society that believes that the government should fund the stem cell research not only for the benefits it adds to scientific fields but also for its contribution toward the wellbeing of humankind such as the prevention and treatment of a lot of diseases, as well as making new and efficient drugs. On the other hand, opponents argue that the embryonic stem cells should be considered as human lives; they deserve the same respect and protection everyone else has. Therefore, the money of the taxpayers should not fund and promote an immorality.
When a stem cell divides, each new cell has the potential to either remain a stem cell or become another type of cell such as a muscle cell, a red blood cell, or a brain cell. Cells can be extracted from the embryo and are then differentiated into any cell the scientist wishes.
Stem cell research is so controversial because stem cells have the potential to fix damaged cells or tissues. It is also because when researching stem cells, human embryonic stem cells are damaged. One side of the argument is “stem cells can heal people!” “we have to fund this because it could help with other diseases!!”. The other side is “you are damaging embryonic stem cells, therefore damaging a human life.”
For starters, a stem cell is an undifferentiated cell that is capable of regenerating itself or becoming induced into a specific tissue or organ for specialized functions under certain physiological functions. All stem cells have the following three things in common: they are capable of renewing and dividing themselves over an extended period of time, they are not specialized, and they are able to give rise
Cellular Differentiation is when a less specific cell becomes a more particular cell. Each tissue has their own type of cell.
There are many unique properties of stem cells. One example of this is they are unspecialized cells. Unspecialized cells are capable of renewing themselves and they don’t have tissue specific structures (Stem Cell Basics). Another unique property is stem cells can develop into many different cell types (Stem
The ethical and religious debate over stem cell usage and development is hindering our ability to advance medically and cure more disease.
Stem cells are unique cells because of their special features. First of all, they are able to regenerate themselves through the process of cell division. Each time this process happens, each new cell created can become another type of cell. Secondly, if they undertake some conditions, they can become tissue and organ cells. There are two main types of stem cells that are being looked today, embryonic stem cells and adult stem cells (Also known as somatic stem cells). However, all stem cells have three main functions.
Adult: An adult stem cell is a cell that is not yet specialised and is found among differentiated cells in organs or tissue. An adult stem cell can produce all of the major cell types found in tissue or organs. The main role of this cell is to preserve and mend the tissue in which they are
Now as we all grow up we ponder the idea of what our profession will be and the same approach comes into play with stem cells. There are two main types of stem cells, which are embryonic stem cells and adult stem cells. An embryonic stem cell is a undifferentiated cell that can give rise to all of the bodies cells and your existence in whole by choosing its profession. While most cells can only recreate more of its own kind;
[4] Stem cells are able to serves as an internal repair and are able to divide without limit. [5] One of these three unique properties is their ability to self-renew. Stem cells are able to renew themselves without any limit. The second properties that makes stem cells important is how they have the ability to differentiate into specialised cells with characteristics and have different functions. The third important property is that stem cells have a large amount of unspecialised cells, which give rise to specialised cells. [4]
Stem cells have the ability to develop into many different cell types in the human body, and are used as an internal repair system. By dividing itself, the stem cell can create two more cells that have the potential to either stay as a stem cell or evolve into another specialized cell such as a red blood cell, a brain cell, or a muscle cell.
