The live production that I chose to attend was The Weird at The Herbert and Nicole Wertheim Performing arts center in FIU’s Modesto Maidique Campus. The Weird was a Tragic comedy, portraying a variety of sketches based on the struggle between love and fear. After The Weird finished my reaction to the play and quality were extremely positive, through the collaboration effort conducted by the playwright’s collaborative artists and craftspeople it helped me understand and enjoy the plays’ ongoing struggle of love and fear in life and in the future it’ll make me think of how my life and I are full of things that we love and things that make us
This past week, I had the opportunity to experience a magnificent play called Born Yesterday by Garson Kanin. This performance was the third of three plays I saw at the Arizona Repertory Theatre. The other two plays were Epic Proportions by Larry Coen and David Crane and Hands on a Hardbody by Doug Wright. These were the first plays I have been to, not only while attending the University of Arizona, but in my generation as a teenager. All together, these performances were amazing and have brought a newly improved insight to my perception of theatre. The hard work and dedication by the actors, directors, producers, cast members, and sound developers were absolutely incredible and I have tremendous respect for their efforts during the overall sequence of producing the plays. The most recent performance I saw, Born Yesterday, can be described and reflected on through various topics such as lighting, sound, directing and producing.
Thank you for the opportunity of allowing me to be a finalist for the Daniel’s Fund Scholarship. I am a high school senior enrolled as a concurrent enrollment student at the Community College of Aurora through my high school, Vista Academy. I am also a first generation prospective college student with a Mexican background. Neither of my parents went to college, though, I know in my heart I need to earn a college degree; they are my motivation. I also know in my heart that I will be a great Daniel’s Fund Scholar because I possess maturity, strength of character, leadership, a well rounded personality in one way, shape, or manner.
Hopefully, I will be able to continue my education in 2016 spring semester at Queens College. It will be a fantastic experience for me to meet outstanding professors and make new friends who share same interests. I will be a more mature musician and a person as I spend more time at the college. Queens College will definitely help me to build a firm foundation for the future and get closer to my goal and this is why I desperately want to be a part of the
The clarity and effectiveness of purpose and the use of time was very well used in this meeting. The purpose of this meeting was very clear to both this writer and seemed to be to all group members. Group members respected that the purpose was to have meetings that were effective enough to help themselves stay sober. The group leader was very strict on keeping the group on task and did not allow much time for the group members to get off topic. The group discussions truly allowed group members to understand the purpose in being in attendance at each meeting. The time allotted for the meeting was perfect. The hour long session left just enough time for each portion of the meeting to be completed, but did not leave extra time where the group leader struggled to come up with discussion or activities for the group members to participate in. The use of time was very effective and clear to both the group leaders and group members.
I have an diligent passion for assisting and supporting others of different cultures and heritages. I have volunteered on countless community and school events during the past two years. Currently, I contain more than 120 hours of community service and school service. In my school, New Tech High, we have a graduation requirement where the student must have completed 20 hours of community service and 10 hours of school service. I have exceeded my school hours by 50 hours and a half, while I overly exceeded my community hours by more than 71 hours. This has affected my outlook by providing me more opportunities as well as being noticed by the community. Currently,in my senior year, I have been helping coordinate event opportunities for the students
Before I set out to find performances to write this paper about, I wanted to make sure that I was experiencing something entirely new and foreign to my long list of plays and performances that I have already seen. I was fortunate enough to attend two new shows that I had not seen before. The first performance was at the Dietrich Theater at Sierra College where I saw Sierra College Theatre Arts’ production of I Never Saw Another Butterfly, written by Celeste Raspanti and directed by Debra Hammond. The second was Little Shop of Horrors: The Musical, written by Howard Ashman and directed by Steve Gold and Mike Mechanick, performed by Rocklin Community Theatre at the Finnish Temperance Hall in Rocklin. Both performances offered a unique and inviting
Ordinary Objects is a vibrant, upbeat piece of absurd theater that uses anthropomorphic objects and puppetry in creating an unexpected and irreverent new work. Inspired by surreal artist, Rene’ Magritte and avant-garde composer John Cage, both who made use of unconventional associations, juxtapositions, and limited use of spoken and written word, Ordinary Objects endeavors to link life and the dream expressed by these artisans for a unique live stage performance. The work incites surprise and humor with an underlying message of metaphysical distress from a world of where objects are weightless and interchangeable and values are turned upside
My journey at Hodges University has been a knowledgeable experience, I enjoyed the friendly staff, from the registrar and financial aid office, that advised me with my registration process to make it a more suitable transition as a college student. My academic success takes a blending of skills; such as motivation, to manage more of my time for studying and preparing for my upcoming coursework. While being proficient to problem solving skills, I understood how to identify and explore other opportunities to solve challenging tasks to achieve academic success. My personal development skills include setting high educational standards for myself, like obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, to achieve a great career in order to provide
My mission in life is to be an instrument of positive change of Georgia College, my sorority, among my friends, and as a future educator. To start every day with a smile and continue the day with passion for life and those around me. I will later use my compassion for children to make a difference in the future of society but for now I hope to leave a positive imprint on the campus of Georgia College as well as my sorority’s chapter.
We often forget how much theatre impacts our lives. There are many lessons that we learn through performance and watching others make mistakes we ourselves might have made at some point in our lives. Theatre is more than just Shakespeare and funny costumes. IT has recently become a pop culture phenomenon. Today, Broadway productions range from live-action Disney adaptations to historical figures brought back to life. No matter the setting, theatre is a very powerful thing that we can all learn from. It is possible to find a life lesson in any theatrical production. One just has to look hard enough for it. The importance of a production in someone’s life very much depends on their life context. For me, my most memorable show came my senior
The technical elements of a play – lights, scenery, sound, costumes, etc, - are not random selections made without purpose. These elements work in tandem with the words and actions of the characters to express an overall theme of a production. One of the themes of the play The Illusion is love. This theme of love was expressed particularly well in USM’s 2017 production through the lighting design, the scenic design, and through the sound design.
My previous three employment experiences have rewarded me with many skills that can be of value to my service placement in The New Student of Orientation in the summer.
With my research, I learnt that the countries of UK, USA, Canada and Australia and most popular among Indian students. I started my research with UK. In UK I found some universities which offer this course. But, I was a little disappointed to know that master’s degrees in UK are of 1 year in duration. It is difficult to find jobs in India on the basis of a 1 year as Jobs in India needs the applicant to have a master’s degree that is of 2 years in duration. Hence, I dropped the plan for UK. In Canada, some universities are offering Graduate certificate courses in IT. But, I was looking for a proper 2 year master’s degree and did not want to do diploma courses.
Since we were little, we’ve always been told exactly what to do. It all started with our parents. They told us “Go to bed!” and “Be good!” and “Treat others how you’d want to be treated!”. Our parents begin this process that conditions us to accept the commands that are given to us, which is an integral skill as a human being. It helped when we got to elementary school and had to listen to our teachers, who told us exactly what to do. And then we got to high school and we finally had a little bit more of a choice. we began to question these authority figures. We began to wonder why are things the way that they are and we began to think about where we fell on all these issues. Then, we are asked to decide what we want. We have to figure out where to go to college, what we want to be when we’re grown up, and all along many of us are questioning, when was it that it was okay for me to decide what I wanted to do?
I wish to continue my education at Addey and Stanhope because I believe I would benefit from staying and the teachers would prepare me for future challenges.
