Many schools in the United States begin classes before 8:30 a.m. I’m sure many people can remember or relate to waking up very early in the morning and completing the grueling task of getting out of bed and going to school. It is very likely that you had days where it was difficult for you to pay attention in class because of your exhaustion. I myself have a question. What is the purpose of having students begin classes so early? While I don’t know the answer to this question, I do know why you should disagree with this.

I believe that Polk County Early College High School would be a great school for me because of smaller class sizes and more one on one opportunity with teachers. I feel that I thrive in that kind of setting because you can feel free to ask for help if needed, and it will be provided much more easily than in a larger class room. If school starts before 9:00AM children develop chronic sleep deprivation. Chronic sleep deprivation cause sleepiness, clumsiness, and weight loss/gain. Although it seems that it is just a time, waking up too early is very detrimental, not only to teenagers, but people of all ages. Waking up at this earliest of times can lead to increased depression, drug use, obesity, conflict, and car accidents in the average teenager.
