Star Girl was a play conveying the story of a young alien girl, Star Girl, Naomi Garay, and her encounter with an Earth family and with her family’s archenemy, Dr. Horribilis, Samantha Cox. Star Girl was directed by Jim Anderson and written by Janet Farr Swart. Although this play is aimed towards a younger audience, members of all age groups could learn a thing or two from this story. Star Girl consisted of a dynamic character set. Throughout the progression of the story, character after character sees a change in their original way of thinking. It all starts with the children when they come across a mysterious boat in the woods. At first, they are apprehensive about the encounter with one of the boats occupants, Star Girl, but then they become more accepting and even invite her to spend the night at their house. Later Star Girl’s parents have to change when they must tell the Earth parents their predicament in order to get help and eventually return home. Mirroring, the Earth parents have to accept and understand the Alien’s problems and the …show more content…
Many times during the show, the fourth wall was broken. Each time the audience is brought in closer to the characters, and by the end of the show you really feel like you are apart of the family. There are several examples of how this was done, but there were a few instances that stood above the rest. First, each time Dr. Horribilis breaks into her aside about her dog or her childhood, the audience is given a special look into her life story. Also, many numbers spoke directly to the audience members and the cast did great in conveying that to the audience. Lastly, the most notable fourth wall break was when Dick, Omar, asked the audience whether or not Dr. Horribils should be allowed to travel with them on their spaceship. I felt that this performance did a perfect job of breaking the fourth wall tactfully and professionally (and it was pretty funny
This is going to be about lighting and what the lighting will do to the play called Sonia Flew. We are also gonna talk about how lighting will affect the play. What we want to create is a play that will make you stand up because you're so into it meaning we’re trying to make the play interesting. This play takes place like in the present time but the story brings things that happened in the past. The lighting design that will be assigned for this play would have to be red. The reason why we say the lighting is going to be red is because the play of Sonia Flew is sad. The story of Sonia Flew is about a woman that moved to the United States from Cuba because there was a revolution in Cuba. She left her parents and she never saw them again because
The play that was chosen to be adapted to film was, “Gloria.” “Gloria”, is written by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins. The play was first performed in the theater on May 28, 2015 and has only remained on the stage.
The play I saw was The Woman in Black by Steven Mallatratt, based on the novel by Susan Hill. It was a matinee performance in The Lyric, Theatre Royal on Thursday the 21st of May 2015. The Woman in Black follows the tale of Arthur Kipps, who has hired an actor to help him become confident in telling his ghastly tale. The Theatre Royal is a regional theatre, this means that different performances come down to perform for a certain amount of time.

Single Asian Female by Michelle law was a thought provoking and challenging play presented by La Boite Theatre Company. Single Asian Female is the story of newly single Asian women and her two daughter’s lives as they all fight their own issues, run a Chinese shop, get their dream careers and most importantly be a family. This breathtaking piece explores issues and the behind the door lives of international people living in Australia. This play is brought to life through the Alex Lee’s, Hsiao-Ling Tang’s and Courtney Stewart’s realistic characterisation and vocal tones of the three main characters, Zoe, Pearl and Mei. Lighting, musical undertone and the tensions of drama helped turn this play into a heart-warming
To begin, Stargirl defies the term normal throughout the novel with her identity as the quirky over the top person she is. “She laughed when there was no joke. She a danced when there was no music. She had no friends, but was the friendliest person in school” (Page 15, Spinelli). This quote by Spinelli shows that Stargirl is different than everyone else, not only in the way she dresses and looks, but also in her demeanor and outlook in life. The book goes along to say that the kids at Mica Area High School couldn’t make her out. In fact, Stargirls identity and refusal to join the rest of the school in their conformity lifestyles, is drawn out though character Hillari Kimble spreading the rumour across the entire school that “She (Stargirl) isn’t real” (Spinelli, Pag 7). going onto to tell Mica Area High School her conspiracy about Stargirl being a ploy by the

Each element gave the stage a different feel that matched every scene , complementing each brilliantly. The only element that lacked for me was lights, although very bright ; in my opinion the reoccurring blue wasn't the best option. I feel if the lighting designer would have had more warmer colored lights against the already vibrant set pieces, it would have made the stage pop more. But one thing i did particularly fancy, were the costumes the characters wore and how they fit each character. Each character's’ costume showed the dichotomy between the personalities and tastes of each individual. For example Ilona played by Jane Krakowski was dressed in a scarlet / pinkish dress with a high slit up the left side; showing her seductive character type. Meaning when i saw Ilona on stage, I immediately knew who i was looking at . Lastly the sound effects included , like the door jingle sound or The bike bell , added to the whole idea of being inside and outside of a retail building. These effects gave the stage an outdoorsy feel , drawing you in , giving the audience illusions of really being in 1930’s
Stargirl was another fantastic book Jerry Spinelli. He added interesting characters, such as, Leo the quiet and shy one, Stargirl unique and fun one, Dori Dilson Stargirl only friend, Archie the wise and elderly one, Kevin Leo’s friend that likes the stoplight, and Hillari Kimble the popular bratty one. This book takes place in MICA, Arizona. Now, in paragraph one I will discuss the plot of Stargirl. Next, I will talk about the theme in Stargirl. Finally, I will evaluate Jerry Spinelli`s job on the novel Stargirl.
The play Wicked, written by American lyricist Stephen Schwartz, was a play that demonstrated several conflicts that a person went through during their lifetime. Elphaba, the protagonist, was born with green skin because of a choice that her mother made. She had to deal with the fear and the looks that people gave her because of her appearance. Elphaba dealt with the mockery of others during her years in school. When reading the play, one could compare Elphaba’s circumstances to discrimination or racism towards African Americans in the nineteen sixties. In college, she discovered that she had magical powers that she could use for good. The people in the town of Oz stereotyped her and assumed she was a witch who wanted to harm everyone because of her
On October 10, 2017 I saw “Guys and Dolls”, at The Milwaukee Repertory Theater, and it was astonishing.
Ruby Moon, This play indited by composer Matt Cameron explores sundry emotions all throughout the play. Including grief, guilt, life in suburbia, fear, and child abuse. Ruby Moon is a story about a girl who goes to visit her grandmother, albeit she does not arrive. This play sublimely demonstrates that the Australian contemporary communities are not all sunshine and rainbows and could possibly take a turn for the worst in a matter of hours. Ruby Moon exhaustively demonstrates that the community and neighbors you trust may just not be as innocent as you think. Matt Cameron thoroughly explains the play and his set intentions for the play during his interview with ABC.
This idea is presented much in the same way as Augusto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed, through allowing the audience’s voices to be heard empowering them and creating a sense of community. This breaking of the fourth wall, allows the actor to talk directly to the audience, creating more of a conversational atmosphere. This helps to reinforce to the audience that what they are watching is real and they are encouraged to form opinions about what they are seeing. In Run Rabbit
William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, a tragedy, portrays two individuals, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. Desiring wealth and control, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are ambitious and power-hungry. Macbeth, concealed in the darkness bears no guilt for his sins, whilst Lady Macbeth, incapable of hiding within the darkness, bears the weight of sin. Whilst Macbeth, a virtuous man struggles with wrongful desires, Lady Macbeth is driven by her desire.
The movie begins with an expert linguist Louise Banks, (Amy Adams) losing her only daughter to cancer at a young age. This is an important key to the storyline, but it gets set aside as soon as twelve gigantic unidentified space craft appear in different places around the world. Within a day Louise is summoned by the United States Military to decipher the language of the aliens. Shortly after arriving at the base, Louise is sent into the large black “shell” along with a team of men and physics specialist Ian Donnelly (Jeremy Renner). The door to the shell only opened every eighteen hours. Once inside, the pod leads to a luminous chamber with a large glass screen like a movie theater. On the other side of the glass emerged from the fog; two squid-like creatures that were later named Heptapods. Because the military did not know the language of the aliens, they needed Louise to determine a way to communicate with these creatures and figure out why they were here. Throughout the movie, Louise would have memories of the child that died at the beginning of the movie, however, she seemed to be confused immediately after the flashback.
