Flagstaff has many geologic wonders and is found on the southern part of the Colorado Plateau. A small portion of Flagstaff's northeastern rocks are sedimentary, like limestone, dolostone, quartzite, and shale, which were all deposited in the Paleozoic Era. The north region of Flagstaff is mostly volcanic rocks, like basalt. However, the west region of Flagstaff is mostly made up of limestone and again, basalt.
