With the opportunity of a fresh start in front of us, I believe now is the time to make the changes this program needed five plus seasons ago. My first year on the team was both very exciting and intimidating. It couldn’t have been more than two days into the season before I was taken under the wing of senior captain Laura. She began to teach me the ropes of the program I would dream of leading myself one day. As a new captain, Laura explained to me her goals as a leader and what she hoped to bring to the Prior Lake Girls’ Hockey Team. As I look back to the very beginning of my high school hockey career, I have yet to see this team achieve the goals Laura set that year. What I will write about is what I have learned what makes some leaders more successful than other, and why …show more content…
All have shown both good and bad traits of being a leader and I have taken note of the traits that made one captain a more successful leader than the other. What I believe make the best captains the best captains are their efforts to create a competitive, but supportive team atmosphere/culture, obtain strong communication skills with both teammates and coaches, be able to lead by example on and off the ice, and most importantly represent the excitement of hockey and have an eagerness to improve every day. Now the big question, why am I the best candidate for captain this upcoming season? Because our team has lacked what I have learned to be the most important trait of successful hockey teams. As a whole, we haven’t had enough fun, we haven’t shared enough excitement, and we definitely haven't encouraged each other to improve individually. These are the factors I have been trying to bring to this team for the last five seasons because I love the game and it would be way more fun to share this love with my teammates rather than just by
I’m going to inform you why the Denver Broncos are one of the best NFL teams to root for. They have a lot of really cool people on their team like Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders, CJ Anderson, and more. These are all really cool people to watch and just to see on TV, they make plays time after time and they are good people on and off of the field.
Having patience, self-discipline, optimistic, intelligence and confident are all good qualities a good leader should have. Leaders are encouraging to the team members and not negative toward them, that gives the players confidence so they can concentrate on what they need to improve. In addition they
Want to know how to throw a perfect spiral!? Well then get up and go outside! A beautiful day is the perfect time to learn how to throw a football. If you want to become a quarterback, you have to be an excellent thrower. Once you become an expert at throwing a perfect spiral, you might become one of the best throwers ever!
The other quality of a leader that I exhibit is hard work and dedication. I do my best to make each assignment or activity I do the best it can possibly be. I only ever miss school, practice or work if I have no other option available to me, and when I do miss, I try to make up my work as quickly as I can. I use the drive that I have in school, swim, and work to strengthen my leadership qualities.
With renewed energy and determination, we mounted a comeback. Therefore, through effective communication and positive reinforcement, I was able to inspire my teammates to bring their best performance under pressure. In the end, we won the game, not only because of our individual skills, but also because of our teamwork and leadership. This experience taught me the importance of communicating effectively, and believing in the abilities of my teammates, and showed me that leadership is also about inspiring others to achieve their full potential. Off the field, the leadership skills I have developed through baseball have translated into my academic life.
To begin, I exhibit qualities of a great leader. Firstly, at my Saturday morning bowling league, I am positioned as the anchor, which means I am expected to lead my team to victory.. Secondly, I lead by being a good example to my peers, and I am a positive role model. Lastly, when my friends have problems they come to me and I lead them to a positive solution. This is being a good leader.
To be a cheer captain, there are many responsibilities and priorities. To be a captain you have to be strong and not afraid to try new things. You need to have a great positive attitude the whole time and not let the drama start on the team. You have to make sure your team is ready for games and practices and make sure everyone knows what they are doing and if not to take it slowly until they get it. Being a captain is a lot of responsibilities but it’s an amazing opportunity. I think I am fit to be the captain, because I can bring all these priorities or tasks in with me. I know not to let my feelings drag the team down and I know that you always have to keep a smile on your face.
Through Lacrosse I’ve not only become a better athlete but also I have learned leadership skills and the importance of teamwork. It was a bitter cold day on the Zionsville Middle School lacrosse practice field and everyone was going 100 percent in hopes of making the A team. At the end of practice our coached had everyone huddle around and take a knee. It was dead silent as everyone sat there waiting to hear the results. Our coach started to call of the names of people who had made the A team slowly one by on.
One of my goals is to be a leader in a business organization. Being the captain of the swim team sets a concrete foundation of what being a leader is like in a business organization. As the captain I have to make sure everyone is accounted for, keep morale high, talk about issues about an individual on the swim team, and fix said problem. This shows responsibility, character, and sympathy. These are core values that all leaders must have to be successful. Without them, they will
I started out as a student-athlete in which I depicted great leadership skills and positive role model qualities such as diligence, enthusiasm, and passion for the sport. Hence, after my first year of college, I was named the team captain. I worked closely with the coaches, helped to resolve team conflicts, established the tone for practice, and modeled responsibility, decision-making, and a strong work ethic. I also promoted a positive attitude and team interactions, and encouraged and supported all of my teammates. Throughout my experience as team captain, I showed mental toughness by remaining confident and focus, and respond to individual and team mistakes in an appropriate manner.
Leadership means different things to different people. To us it is not about managing or directing people. It is about the ability to inspire and influence others towards the leader’s goal and vision. A leader in sports has the same characteristics as a leader who works in an office. Besides being knowledgeable in their respective sport, team leaders have to possess effective relationship skills. A sport leader leads by example and must hold and exhibit the same traits and behaviours they expect from their team members. Nobody did that as well as the world famous Mr. Wayne Gretzky. Wayne Gretzky is a former National League Hockey (NHL) all-star and International hockey star. Many say he is the best hockey player of all time. He was the
I stood there in anticipation, speech in hand, facing the crowd. Then, I ripped apart the speech, but I had no worries about the paper. After all, I had already memorized the whole speech. At that moment, my goal was to inspire people with my speech. I had never thought I would be able to stand there in the gaze of a giant audience.
Many high school students identify themselves as either the nerd, the jock, or the rebel, while some students did not embrace their label, I did. I accepted my label as the so called “jock” for one main reason, leadership. Being the captain of the football team as well as the baseball team put a target on my head as someone to follow, look up to, and guide others in times of hardships and adversity.
Captains of sports teams are given the stereotype that they are the most athletic player on the team, scoring the most goals and handling the ball best. In truth, captains have a lot of work they have to do that doesn't even involve playing the sport. Captains are the most looked at player of the game; other players, younger kids and coaches look to them to set examples. They have to set examples in every aspect of the game; athleticism might be part of their job but it is not limited to it. The captain of any sports team must set the leadership standard for commitment, confidence, intelligence, and attitude.
In my opinion, the best leader would be one that enjoys being the leader, is anyways there when I need him or her, sets tangible milestones, always believes that I can do everything, is optimistic, gets everyone involved, wants everyone to be successful, and lastly is courageous and brave. All these
