A number of anomalies have been found in the cat through out the dissection sessions. The anomalies were an enlarged spleen, enlarged thymus and enlarged lymph nodes.
3.1 The Spleen
The spleen is an organ of the immune system (lymphatic system). It function is filter the blood and maintain it in a healthy way. The spleen produces two types of pulp to perform its function, the red and the white pulp (Goodenough & McGuire, 2014). The red pulp filters the damaged blood cells, palates and foreign materials in the blood, so it recycles the blood. On other hand, the white pulp is composed from lymphocytes, macrophages and plasma cells that help clean the blood. These two pulps work interchangeably to make sure the blood is filtered completely from any foreign materials and dead cells.
Splenomegaly, which is the enlargement of the spleen, could happen due to four main causes, which were cancer, infection, liver or blood diseases (Kuntz, 2006). An enlarged spleen causes hypersplenism; it is a process where the spleen increases the filtration process of the blood cells. This causes the spleen to recycle more blood and consider it to be a foreign material. Consequently, more RBCs, WBCs and palates in the blood plasma are

After witnessing the enlarged spleen, thymus gland and lymph nodes, it was evident the cat had undergone some dilemmas with its lymphatic and immue system. With the first discovery, which was the spleen, the following discussion was presented: the chances that the cause of splenomegaly is a liver or blood diseases are low, because of the normal appearance of cat’s liver and the blood of the cat was drained. The chances are higher with the other causes, which are more related to the lymphatic system. There might have been an infection, lymphoma or inflammation of the nodes in the
White blood cells are part of the immune system and help defend the body from antigens.
The cat dissection is the culminating component of this course because it solidifies our knowledge of anatomy and physiology by applying it to a tangible specimen. Mammalian dissection provides an experience that two dimensional diagrams are incapable of and serves as an indicator of whether entering a profession that involves the application of anatomy and physiology is suitable for students in this course. The cat dissection builds on the previous dissections of the fetal pigs and other individual structures throughout the year by applying them to a cat that shares similar well-developed organs and muscles found in human anatomy. I found value in recognizing the similarities and differences not only between human and cat anatomies, but also
My cat was 7 months old and he was diagnose with FELINE INFECTIOUS PERITONITIS or known as FIP. Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is a viral disease of cats caused by certain strains of a virus called the feline coronavirus. Most strains of feline coronavirus are avirulent, which means that they do not cause disease, and are referred to as feline enteric coronavirus. Cats infected with a feline coronavirus generally do not show any symptoms during the initial viral
The human spleen is divided into two different parts. The job of each part differs and completes different duties in keeping the body healthy. It has the purpose of cleaning the body's blood. Pathogens or damaged cells have some difficulty when passing through the openings of these
NOTE: LYMPH NODES ARE PART OF THE LYMPHATIC SYSTEM WHICH INCLUDES THE SPLEEN AND THYMUS. THEY ARE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN SWELLING OCCURS.
Introduction The goal of this lab was to dissect and isolate the muscles and organs of a cat. Dissection is the act of cutting into a specimen to learn the anatomy of it upon other things. Isolation is the act of separating one body part from another. The groups were to explore different areas of the cat as a class.
spleen is a place for immune function, and it kills defective or aged red blood
The lymphatic system are a complex network of specialised cells and organs that defend the body against infection. Lymphatic organs include the bone marrow, spleen, thymus gland, lymph nodes, tonsils, adenoids, appendix and clumps of tissue in the small bowel. A function of the lymphatic system is to nurture and mature the B and T-lymphocytes (white blood cells vital to immune function). Cancerous changes can take place
TUNEL stains illustrating apoptosis in lymphoid and epithelial tissues from monkeypox virus-infected monkeys (A–F). Apoptotic cells are concentrated in necrotic follicular areas of the spleen (A) and colonic gut-associated lymphoid tissues (GALT) (B). Apoptotic cells are distributed throughout a necrotic lobule of thymus (C). Necrotic tracheal epithelium (D), bronchial epithelium and mononuclear cells within the subjacent interstitium (E), and stratified squamous epithelium adjacent to a lip ulcer (F) are all strongly labeled for apoptosis (original magnification, 10 [A, C, E], 20 [B, D], 40
The spleen in my body discharge more white and red blood cells to allow my blood cells to transport more oxygen.
To begin, understand that feline panleukopenia is named for what the parvovirus does- depletes the quantity of white blood cells, weakening the immune system. Feline panleukopenia virus, depends on cells in the S phase for replication of the virus, resulting in an affinity for cells such as those found in the digestive tract, lymphoid tissues and bone marrow which are rapidly and frequently
17% had hepatic disease, and 8% had infectious disease. Chronic leukemias were associated most frequently with massive splenomegaly. The hallmark of CML isthe presence of a balanced translocation between thelong arms
Those who are immunocompetent with any signs of systemic disease may be followed up in an outpatient clinic with a scheduled appointment several weeks later to ensure that resolution of CSD lymphadenopathy has been achieved. However, a patient should seek medical attention if neurological complications occur or if the lymphadenitis progressively enlarges. The latter could be a sign of something more sinister, such as a neoplasm. In preventing CSD parents should instruct children to always exercise caution to avoid scratches and bites. Proper pet hygiene is also recommended to prevent flea and tick infestations. Treating cats with antibiotics may also be done, but has not shown to reduce the risk of transmission to
While violence attributed to either technological fusion or natural depiction is a great cause of concern for most critics of anime, it does not compare to the outrage visited upon Japanese animation on the basis of sexually explicit content. According to Hinton (2014), the greatest concern for most critics of anime is the constant depiction of underage girls in sexually suggesting situations and scenes. This is especially true for Japanese animation subgenres such as hentai, lolicon and rorikon. Accordingly, Hinton (2014) suggests that western media in particular is often outraged by images of scantily dressed underage girls in Japanese animation. The reality of the matter, according to Hinton, is that Japanese culture as a whole seems to tolerate this sexual depiction because their culture has in the past permitted the prostitution of underage, school going girls by older me for financial gain (Hinton, 2014). In this regard, Hinton (2014) suggests that eroticism in Japanese animation is largely influenced by two key factors; fantasy and purity or innocence, which when combined often have the net effect of distorting human nature.
