At work he discovered some serial killer's diary who was slowly accelerating from smaller crimes to bigger crimes. He finds out that the serial killer has been stalking three women and is after to kill them. At first he didn't care what the serial killer wanted to do and so he decided to hand in the journal to the police, but seeing the disinterest that the cops showed him, he realized that he is playing with the life of someone and that the life of that victim is in hands, he decides to put a stop on it. He becomes responsible of his actions and understands the realities of the life. Also after working in lost and found department he became more mature and understood that the life is just not about having fun and do whatever you want, to get a good career a person have to work hard and follow the proper disciplines in the life.

This trigger Michael to go back to his neighbouring friends but ended into a fight after the leader of the group gave crude remarks about Leigh Anne and her family. Leigh Anne went to look out for him after he run away but unsuccessful in her search. They got reunited when Michael called Leigh Anne to meet up with him to talk and this conversation went on to a decision that she would support him whatever decision he makes. Michael also satisfied the investigator with his decision of choosing University of Mississippi for the reason that it is where his family went to school. The film ends with an emotional goodbye between Michael and Leigh Anne as they took him to University of Mississippi for his college.

She runs out of the house and catches him walking out of the driveway. At that moment she demands Michael to come back and asks him would he like to stay for Thanksgiving dinner. Michael continues to stay with the family and even pulls his grades up enough to play football for the school. After giving Michael the unconditional love of a family, the Tuohys ask Michael would he like for them to become his legal guardians. Will Michael find a home with the Tuohys or will he return back to the secluded and neglectful life that he once lived?
