Describe briefly how any idea from the article relates to a specific learning-related event or experience you had last term.
DNA replication was a difficult subject for me to understand and internalize throughout the course. I struggled to answer the given practice questions and by attempting to learn the material quickly, I tried to memorize everything before the exam.
Why was this specific experience important or relevant to your success in learning? What does it reveal about which approaches to learning work for you (or not)?
I found that during the exam, material from the DNA chapter was hard to recall even though I had memorized it hours ago. This taught me that memorizing and cramming before the exam is not effective preparation and
Which among the learning theories provided you with new information? How would you apply this in your practice?
# Explain the process by which DNA is able to make copies of itself also including an explanation of why it is considered semiconservative replication - There are four steps to replication
Based on concepts from readings, class discussions, content learned in the classroom or other recent experiences, what is your new understanding of the learning event, issue, or situation?
Globalization has caused massive opportunities for criminals to extend their business. Since the Cold War the global governance has failed to keep up with the pace of economic globalization. Economic globalization has opened up to trade, finance, travel, and communications. This is good for the United States as far as the economy is concerned. The criminal justice system has more crimes to deal with that expand beyond their borders because of globalization.
At the end of this unit, students will be able to use the terms DNA, RNA, protein, and nucleotide when it comes to protein synthesis. They will be able to explain how transcription and translation are processes of protein synthesis. They will be able to use genetic code table to translate an RNA sequence into an amino acid sequence. Students will be able to demonstrate their understanding of the Central Dogma. They will be able to describe the semi-conservative nature of DNA replication. They will be able to explain how a change in the DNA sequence code can alter protein function.

The first element of learning that impacted me was that of the 360 peer review. I feared and most anticipated this section because I value the constructive feedback I knew it would give. I sent the survey to a mix of people, but more favored members in which I was in a supervisor role while they were experiencing a personal hardship. Therefore I was unsure of the response I would receive, but valued the input I receive. It was great to know that I
What have you learned so far and how does it connect to your classroom experience.
To be honest, I haven’t taken a biology course since freshman year of high school, so as of this moment, I’m hovering somewhere in between faint recollection of the current material and feeling overwhelmed at the raised expectations. Then again, this is community college; I will be expected to pull my own weight seeing how I’m not in Kansas anymore. Assignments like this will probably be a nice way to help me keep my head above water, so I won’t be completely lost. However, this is not to say that I will completely rely on such assignments to get a decent grade. A few extra points here and there will not hurt my GPA or overall grade.
Within this course, there were issues or information from the course that most surprised, intrigued, or elicited emotion (positive or negative) in me. There were many topics that I already knew about but needed to refresh my memory and many that were new information to me.
1) One of your classmates sincerely believes he/she has an undiagnosed learning disability. He has difficulty typing notes fast enough to keep up with the pace of the professor’s lecture. You noticed the student recording lectures in your psych/soc/cog class so he can go back and fill in the blanks in his notes later on. However, the professor of this course has specifically stated that no one, including students with accommodations, is allowed to record lectures in this course because of self-disclosure that often takes place during class. At first, you decide to overlook the issue because you feel sorry that the student is having trouble keeping up and do not want to make things more difficult for him.
To prepare for my first AP Biology test I began studying five days before the test day. I did this because I knew this test was going to be hard and I
In this paper I will discuss my learning experiences and analyze them with the perspective of learning theories. I will analyze my learning experiences with regards to classical conditioning, operant conditioning and cognitive- social learning theory.
It's been six months since I first started my freshman biology course. It's definitely been a learning experience to say the least. As it had been up to this point in my life, I expected everything to come easy when I started this course. Now that I look at it, the topics were actually not hard at all, the problem was the way I viewed the material. Learning through memorization didn't help me when I was given a scenario and asked to identify what's happening. What made the material “hard” was that I knew what was happening but I couldn't explain why it was happening . To date, photosynthesis and cellular respiration are my favorite chapters since they made me realize the intense complexity of such vital processes. Over the first six months,
