As shown in Document A, the Soviet Union occupies an enormous amount of territory. In fact, according to the Soviet Union Information Bureau, the USSR “occupies the largest territory of any country in the world, with the exception of the British Empire and all dependencies.” This is noteworthy because many people feared that the more amount of territory a country occupied the more power the country had. In addition, East European Soviet satellite countries surrounded the USSR and acted as a barrier, making them a stronger country. Therefore, the map should be included because it shows how the size of the country affected other countries around the world.
Another piece that should be included is the Space Race. The Space Race is one of the positive attributes of the Cold War. Presented in Document F, the Soviet Union on October 4, 1957 launched the world’s first artificial satellite into space. This event started the competition between the USSR and the US for supremacy in spaceflight ability. This is remarkable because it created a time for advancement in technology and knowledge about space. For that reason, information about the Space Race should be included in textbooks about the Soviet
Document a talks about how Sputnik was a surprise to Americans, but it probably shouldn't be. When the Soviets launched Sputnik the United States realized that they were no longer safe. This relates to political aspects that reflected the Cold War. Americans were scared which had caused a political war( Cold War). Document G is a great example of the political effect on the Cold War. If we worked together with the Soviet Union we could have gotten to space faster. America was scared that the Soviets would use satellites and technology for military purposes. Document f tells us about how the Vanguard rocket was launched and had sank back down after being launched and crashed. Document F States, "This was what were capable of, while the Russians Road the heavens.". Political aspects had tremendously affected the Cold War.

The Soviet Union was a powerful union in the 1900’s. There is a lot of information textbooks should emphasize to students regarding the USSR. One of the things Soviet textbooks should include is the story of the Great Terror. According to Document C, “ The Great Terror was the most cruel tortures, interrogations, and fearful abuse of human dignity.” In other words, many people were tortured and they were really abusive. The leader for the Great Terror was Josef Stalin (aka Soviet leader). Also, according to Document C, “According to the declassified Soviet archives, during
H.W. Brands' book was a pretty solid read. It provided a different outlook on the Cold War, as it sought to show that it was not merely an American victory over "communism" and the Russians. There was far more to the Cold War than most Americans would care to admit, but Brands puts it out there for the reader to take in.
“If the Soviet Union let another political party into existence they would still be one state party state because everybody would join the other party,” is a quote by Ronald Reagan about the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union(USSR) is a constitutionally socialist state that existed in Eurasia from 1922 to 1999. It's fall resulted from its government-run economy not working very well. Soviet Union was run by Vladimir Lenin, dictator who overthrew Russian monarchy, and Bolshevik communist. At first USSR aligned with the US to defeat the Nazi Germany. But the countries soon turn against each other due to the difference in perspective about how government should run in 1945. Their clash was a major part of cold war. Now with all this information
The Soviet Union, after 69 years if being a country, has done a gaggle of things. From space achievements to putting the most funding into their military than any other country at the time, these events all deserve to be remembered in Soviet Union textbooks. However, there are three things that must be in those Soviet textbooks which would be geographic expansion, military strength, and their Olympic values. All of these show that communism was capable of producing greatness and nationalism in their people. Geographic expansion should be included in Soviet Union textbooks because it shows the determination of their country, their leaders need to protect their country, and it shows their ideals.
Not only did the Soviets send the first space satellite up, but they also sent the first dog, woman, and man, also according to document F. During that time, there is great doubt that the U.S would even allow a woman to be involved in new space discoveries. The first woman ever in the world to go into space and that was given the privilege by the Soviets is Valetina Tereshkova on June 17th, 1963. Before Valetina was made into an astronaut, Yuri Gagarin was sent up on April 12th,1961. Even before sending a man, Russian astronomers decided to send a dog up! The dog’s name was Laia, and he went up into space on November 3rd, 1957. This is a time when not even America was up in space and the Soviets were discovering new things. The Soviet space race should be put into their textbooks to inspire the future generations or even the present generations to represent their country and make new discoveries every
Major Point 1-How did it start a. Minor point 1 (cite evidence)-The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) was founded in November 1917 by the Bolshevik Party. Led by Vladimir Lenin and, after 1923, by Josef Stalin, the Bolsheviks (later known as the Communists) established Communist rule in the former Russian Empire after the conclusion of a bitter civil war in 1921.(Holocaust Encyclopedia) b. Minor point 2 (cite evidence)-The Soviet Union, as the new political entity was known, called for world Communist revolution in the name of the international working class and advocated, in its propaganda, the eventual disappearance of national, cultural, religious, and economic distinctions. Since powerful elites could not be expected to voluntarily give up control, the Communists predicted a violent revolution that would destroy these classes. As a result of this prediction, middle-class societies in Europe and North America perceived the Soviet Union as a cultural and economic threat.(Holocaust Encyclopedia) IV. Major Point 2-Why did it last so long a. Minor point 1 (cite evidence)-That the Soviet Union had control over everything mostly the people didn’t have
Over the years that the soviet union was active, they had many achievements to be proud of. However some of these achievements are not recognized or are so miniscule in soviet textbooks that no one pays any attention to the topic. The Soviet Union had a lot of pride in themselves so it only makes sense to put more emphasis into these three topics, geographic expansion, military strengths, and socio economic accomplishments. The Soviet Union was great at all three of these areas and showed the world how great they truly were.
Before the nation of Russia became the international powerhouse that we knew as the USSR, it was first the small backwater country, whose economy ran on the use of serfs, Czar 's ruled every aspect, and the chance of growth was limited; however, once the year 1917 came along, the entire aspect of what was to be the Russia nation changed into a very strange and new one, called the United of Soviet Socialist Republics. The Soviet Union was, at one point, second only to the United States of America and had the power to destroy the entire planet with the single acknowledgement of their leader, because of their nuclear capabilities and their political power. The Russian country became the great Communist powerhouse after a great revolution in
Soviet Union also called the USSR, emerged from World War I as one of the most powerful nations in the world. For 3 decades Joseph Stalin was in control and changed Soviet Union as a world superpower. After the 1920s they were becoming one of the most feared nations. There were many marks the Soviet Union did during the 20th century, but the textbooks should emphasize on economy/geography, militarism, and Joseph Stalin.
The Soviet Union did a few things that are notable of mentioning as positive aspects of the Cold War and of the USSR’s mindset. One example of something positive yielded from
War-- a horrific way of justifying our actions and the innocent lives that have been lost, but on the other hand has resolved some of the greatest conflicts in history. Not every issue ever raised in this world is resolved through negotiation and discussion, rather sometimes war becomes a necessity for countries to settle disputes. War is a part of how a society strengthens itself politically, socially, and economically however, ultimately it becomes a country’s abusive use of power.
The second thing I will talk about in this paper will be during the cold war. The
