The country of Somalia, is situated in the Horn of Africa, Somalia lies along the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean. Its boundaries are Djibouti in the northwest, Ethiopia in the west, and Kenya in the Southwest. Somalia itself is slightly smaller than State Texas. COUNTRY OF SOMALIA 3 The country of Somalia is mostly arid and barren, Somalia has two main rivers, the Shebelle and the Juba. Somalia is bordered by Ethiopia to the west, to the Northwest is Djiboutit, the Gulf of Aden to the north, the Indian Ocean to the east, and finally to the southwest is Kenya. Both fractions were loyal to the transitional government, and regained passion and control of Mogadishu. Within weeks after the conflict, most of Somalia’s Islamists was forced to flee from the majority of the countries territories. Ethiopia made the announced that they would leave forces emplaced in the majority of the territories, until stability was employed and a new functional central government had been established. Thus putting an end to Somalia's 15 years of anarchy. In Jan. 2007, the U.S. launched air strikes on the retreating Islamists soldiers, who they believed to include three members of al-Qaeda, who were suspected of involvement in the 1998 bombings of the American embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam. The air strikes were strongly criticized in a number of Muslim territories, which accused the Americans of killing several Somali civilians. Several battles between the insurgents, Somali soldiers and Ethiopian troops, intensified in March, leaving approximately 300 civilians dead in what has been called the worst fighting in 15 years. Somalia is half desert and or semi-desert country; drought is a persistent year-round threat. Approximately 60percent of Somalia is savannah woodlands, which is used as rangeland and as primary local source of fuel. Only 13% of Somalia’s land can be cultivated into crops, and much of that is not farmed on a yearly basis due to the arid land. Somalia has the longest fishing coastline in Africa, and has excellent fishing grounds. Somalia’s Communications encompasses the communications services and capacity of Somalia. Telecommunications, internet, radio, print, television and postal services in the nation are largely concentrated in the private sector of the country. Several of the country's telecom firms have begun expanding their networks abroad to other nations. The Federal government owns and operates the only two official radio and television networks. There are a few private and foreign owed stations that exist alongside the Federal government networks. Print social media in Somalia is progressively transferring to news radio stations, and internet portals. Connectivity and access to the internet has increased within the Countries
