If you had a choice to be a Greaser or Soc ,what would you be? The Greasers have it harder than the Socs. The Greasers can get hurt mentally and physically. They can get hurt two ways .The Socs’ s had a member die because he was stabbed by a Greaser .The group called the Greaser in the book ,The Outsiders by S.E.Hinton.

In the novel The Outsiders by S.E Hinton there is two groups. There is the socs with lots of money and wealthy,then we have the greasers with greasy hair and they are pretty poor. In the book The Outsiders it takes place in a small town in the 1960’s in Oklahoma.The setting is affected by the characters in a lot of different ways.

The Socs and Greasers are complete opposites but they both have some of the same problems.In the book “The Oudsiders “by S.E Hinton,the main person join a gang but the gang has a enemy gang,the Socs.The socs are different to the Greasers but they both have some of the same problems.Some of the same problems the face is family issues,pressure from friends,and alcohol.

The book outsiders is a amazing and interesting novel.In the book their are two gangs named Socs and Greasers.The socs are the upper class with money ,cars, and nice houses in a good area.The greasers are lower class and all they have is their hair, the bond of other each, and they live in a type of hood.They are complete different people but they still share lots of things in common.They also have lots of differences.

Greasers are the main stereotype in the book but also there is a small part played by the Socs. Although the book is about the life and times of a Greaser there is also a ‘Socs Story’ in there, as throughout the book you learn more and more about the Socs and how they live. But this all changes. When Bob dies Cherry and Randy, the main Socs characters, begin to see that there is no difference between Socs and Greasers. Throughout the semester I have explored many topics in sociology. While exploring these topics, three main theoretical perspectives were used. I will briefly illustrate each of the main theoretical perspectives of functionalism, conflict theory, and symbolic Interactionism. During this semester I have watched two films, Food Incorporated and The Vernon Johns Story. I will describe how a theoretical perspective is used in each of these examples. Then I will provide my own two examples where concepts and theoretical perspectives can be illustrated. My First example is the Boston Marathon Bombings and the second is the Mass Media’s coverage of the Boston Bombings.

One of the main vs man conflict in the Outsiders is the rival between the greasers and the socs. The greasers are the east side boys who " steal things and drive old souped-up cars and hold up gas stations". The greasers, due to their family background and physical appearance, are being stereotyped as individuals who are poor and are provided with fewer opportunities than others. On the other hand, the socs, are " the west-side rich kids" who come from affluent backgrounds and" likes to jump greasers and throw beer blasts for kicks". In the eyes of the public, the Socs are the social elites whereas the greasers are considered the less privileged, second-class citizens.

The Greasers are "poorer than the Socs and the middle class... almost like hoods; we steal things and rive old souped-up cars and hold up gas stations and have a gang fight once in a while. " In contrast, the Socs are "the jet set, the West-side rich kids," who "jump greasers and wreck houses and throw beer blasts for kicks, and get editorials in the paper for being a public disgrace one day and an asset to society the next. "In Chapter 3, a conversation between Ponyboy and Cherry shows the difference between the two groups that goes beyond money. Cherry says, "You greasers have a different set of values. You're more emotional.

“For thugs from the ghetto, violence is a way of life - it’s what helps you survive.” The Socs and the Greasers were two gangs in The Outsiders. Throughout the novel these two gangs had a continuous rivalry. These two gangs were viewed differently by society. The Socs as rich kids and the Greasers as poor kids.

Have you ever noticed in “The Outsiders” the differences and the similarities between the Greasers and the Socials? Well I will be explaining and showing why the Socials and Greasers are different and why they are the same. I will also be giving evidence supporting Ponyboys thought that Greasers and Socials are the same.

The difference between the Greasers and Socs in the society is the Greasers treated unequally and criticized for being poor. The Socs are bullying, criticizing, and intimidating the Greasers based on the economic level. Greasers have unequal lifestyles, attitudes, and financial situations, but still live in the same world, beneath the same sun as the Socs (Hinton 18), but repeat the same actions toward the Socs in a way of fighting back and sticking together.

A major conflict in this novel is between the greasers and the Socs. These two gangs are made up of complete opposites. The two rivals fall into conflict because of how they view each other and their roles in society. Greasers are poor hoods from the East side that “wear our hair long and dress in t-shirts and blue jeans… and wear leather jackets

One of the main ideas of S.E. Hintons book The Outsiders focused on how greasers were “victims of their environment”, as the story is told through a greaser’s perspective. This means that the greasers have faced many negative forces in their community, and have been seemingly powerless to overcome them. One example that was used to show this was stereotyping. The greasers and Socs were categorized based on where they live, what they look like, how they act, and how much money they have. The plot of the Outsiders mainly revolves around how the greasers are affected by social, emotional, and economical events and how these events have made them who they are. This then affects how they become “victims of their environment”. However, I believe that the Socs were, in their own way, victims of their environment as well.

There were conflicts between the Socs that conflicted with the greasers. They were two opposite groups that didn't get along. The Socs, "the jet-set...West-side rich kids, wear madras shirts, smell of English leather, and drive new sports cars..." (6). Socs were rich, while greasers were low class. "Soc" is an abbreviation of the Socials, which are the West-side rich kids. Socs had a better reputation than the greasers.
