According to google dictionary the definition of society is “the aggregate of people living together in a more or less ordered community”. I personally believe that people control society as opposed to the common belief that society controls people. I believe this because people have created society when there was none ,started something in a society, and even changed it. People create community and people destroy it. People control themselves.
In many fictional and real life scenarios, in the absence of society people managed or tried to manage to create and build a society. One example of this is in the book Lord of the Flies by William Golding. In the absence of society the boys in the books hunt and try to make shelters, some of them
Man is born completely innocent but they get corrupted by the society that surrounds them. No one comes into the world evil but instead they get corrupted and change into a different person. Society molds people into who they are, for the better or the worse. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding it exemplifies how man is born innocent and gets corrupted by society.
Society and individuals have too many aspects in common to state there is no relationship between the two. Without a doubt, society would not exist without individuals. Sanders also expressed that there is a relationship between individuals and society. Because they go hand-in-hand, individuals and society have a complementary relationship. Many may disagree with the points mentioned, but there is a simple reason. As stated earlier, there must be opposition to develop
Since the beginning of time, there has been the oh-so-popular debate of nature versus nurture, good versus bad, and if people are born good and are corrupted by society, or if they are born naturally horrible and society has no impact. In the fiction book “Lord of the Flies” by William Golding it shows this very interesting topic of whether or not people are good or bad. Instead of adults, who have had time to change and have the sociological impact of the world, Golding uses children, ages 6-12. Young British school boys who haven’t yet been affected by the factors of society. They are all in a terrible plane crash which led to the boys being stranded on an island. All of this during the second world war. There are
A great deal of fictional films and literature deal with the concept of society. Writers have played around with the idea of societies that are different from the world we know. While some portray this in optimistic ways and others darker, what these works have in common is the idea of social control – wherein people are forced to conform to means that are believed to benefit their society.
“Society exists only as a mental concept; in the real world there are only individuals.” The posed question is if society is controlled by people, or are people controlled by society. Some may argue that society is controlled by people, but if you step into the light is that really the case. If you were to look at society, really look at it, who is being controlled. Its not society itself, sure people affect the directions society turns, but that is a small group of people who represent societies movement and trends. People do not really affect what society truly is. Society is, as said before, a mental concept, the popular, important figures in the world are the physical representation. The world is full of unique individuals, although everyone is under influence of society. It is subconscious, but always there. These next paragraphs will express how society controls people by elaborating on three main ideas that show up in the book Lord of The Flies. Society controls our actions, we learn from society and use it to try to be in control of others, and it is always there and so we have no idea what to do apart from it.

In many dictionaries society is described as a community of people living together in a group or nation. Even though it may simply mean that; society is one of the sociological terms derived from a Latin word “socious” meaning friendship or companionship. It is a large grouping sharing the same cultural, social and geographical location. Society consists of people and their mutual awareness and interactions with each other, it is a network of social relationships. Society can be shown as a group of unique individuals who share the same culture and social structure, the members of the society may have different ethnic groups but they share the same society. Society is not a constant it can never stay the same it always changes with the people.

Civilization plays a major role in shaping lives. It controls an individual’s behavior, manners, and way of living. It plays an especially important role in the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, which is about a group of British boys who are stranded on a deserted island without any adult supervision. Immediately after landing on the island, the boys develop basic rules to keep order and elect one amongst themselves, Ralph, as chief.. The boys are then faced with challenges, inciting a deep fear of a beast inhabiting the island. This contributes to the breakdown of their society. Slowly, the youths lose their roots of a civilized society and by the end of the novel, most of the boys do not recognize themselves. Throughout the story, many boys develop negative changes, demonstrating the profound effects a lack of society can have on a people.
We as a human race have become a byproduct of our society. Through media, technology, and social pressure, humans no longer run society, but it seems like we are run by society. The quote from sociologist Peter Berger states “Not only do people live in society but society lives in them” This statement is referring to a form of social control were groups and the people in those groups conform to society partially knowingly and partially as a reflection based on dominant social expectations. As I further explain Berger’s statement I will explain how individuality, identity, and freedom fit in to such a predetermined future.
Society may be defined as a group of people living in agreement, having the same moralistic and judicial rules and standards. To live in a society, one must accept these standards and adopt them as their own. For example, living in the United States indicates that you respect the life, liberty and property of each individual, and you decide to accept the punishment if you violate any of these natural rights. Although one may not always agree with these standards, they choose to make sacrifices for the well-being of others. Society is responsible for creating an image of the ideal person, family, environment, and way of life. Our modern day society has dictated its own definition of beauty, happiness, and success. It seems society has accidentally tied these three together, and since these definitions are not universal, different societies may assign different meanings to each concept. Unlike societies explain why there are so many contrasting beliefs and viewpoints throughout the world today. The growth and morals of society are exclusively dependent on those who choose to be a part of something greater than them. Societies tend to grow only when people come to an understanding to be involved. Society is an accumulation of majority rule and the goals of the majority.
Society is the unconscious collective of the morals and values of individuals that formed that society, but society is only a word. It was there before the individual was born, and it will be there after their death. Society is not tangible although individuals
Society, on the other hand, is made up of individuals; people live together in communities. The development of people depends on the environment, which in other words, depends on how organizations manage it to make it a healthy society. Therefore, whether a society is healthy or not does has an impact on individuals.
Interaction with the society helps human beings to develop their worldview over a subject (Wilmer 28). Without a society, it will be difficult to differentiate a human being from other animals. Therefore, it is right to say that a man is humanized by society. The basic society where a man belongs is known as a family. It is in the family that a man learns the necessary feature of becoming a member of the whole society. As the man continues to live in the social environment, he will get to learn values, moral behaviors and responsibility. An individual’s intellectual characteristics are a clear imprint of their society (Wilmer 102). Therefore, the level of development of a society is determines the level of individual development in that society and vice versa.
What is society and how did it help shape me into the person I am today? First, society is the state of living in organized groups of people. These organized groups of people are the ones that made me who I am today and will continue to shape me, as I grow older. My version of society is white middle class people who grow up going to catholic schools. These white middle class people are only associated with other white middle class people, and very seldom venture out of this little society. As stupid as that sounds to not associate with other people it is true. The reason this is true is because of where I live, where I go to school, and who my friends are. I guess it is just like
