Social Networking Is Not Good For The Young Children

People claim that not letting minors use social media is good because they are not responsible with the things they post. However, social media can help prepare them in the future. I believe that minors should be able to have social media accounts because children need to experience things in order for them to be responsible.

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a minor using social media? One word answer: trouble. However, not all minors plan on being disruptive and mischievous on social media, in fact social media happens to be a pretty big part of life for a minor. I believe minors should be allowed to have access social media because it is the best way to stay connected to the outside world.

The real question is should kids be exposed to social media. Kid are exposed to the world wide websites. Most kids learn about things threw instagram and snapchat. They can see more than parents can imagine. I think parents should be more aware of what kids see and do. Maybe if more kids were watched by parents there wouldn't be bullying. Parents should also have access to their accounts to watch what they see and do.

Social media is expanding due to its popularity; however it may be used for many different reasons. Many minors use it as a form of entertainment and interaction between friends and even other people around the world. Although minors use social media as a form of entertainment and interaction, nevertheless minors should not be able to use social media because it causes health issues, exposes them to explicit content, and promotes violence.

Among all the online adults, 71% are using Facebook, 28% are using LinkedIn and Pinterest, 26% are using Instagram, and 23% are using Twitter (Chart 1). On the other hand, among all the American adults aged 18+, 58% use Facebook, 23% on LinkedIn, 22% on Pinterest, 21% on Instagram, and 19% on Twitter (Chart 2).

Social networking sites are increasing as a communication tool of choice with 58% of individuals using social network sites at least once a week, an increase of 14% from the previous year. Notably, 100% of individuals surveyed under the age of 24 spend time online (Kowalski et al., 2006).

Kids under 12 should not be able to have social media accounts . Social media such as musical.ly, instagram, twitter, tumblr, etc could be exposing your child to inappropriate things and/or exposing your child to dangerous people. 65% of online sex offenders use victim's social network to find their home and school information. 82% of sex offenders go on their victims social media to gain knowledge on their victim’s likes and dislikes.. A whopping 100% of sex offenders all use fake information to trick little girls or boys into think they are their age and they are friends of friends, but they are not. Using fake information is called catfishing , catfishing is a deceptive activity involving a person making a sock puppet social media for very bad reasons.

In this day and age, social media has become an integral part of our lives. It has created a platform for people to share information instantly and communicate with people all around the world. Facebook is the most outstanding example of successful social media network. According to the first quarter 2015 earnings announcement by Facebook, the site has achieved 1.44 billion active users per month, and 65% of which are daily active users. Other social networking sites such as Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn are also a powerful means of communication. With such a large audience, social networking sites provide ample opportunities to acquire information, network, and connect with friends.
