Social media is extremely useful in the business world and with personal expression but at the same time it also acts as a barrier between people, so things like cyber bullying and stalking or much easier to do. One benefit of social media is that it allows for businesses to target specific audiences. These businesses can narrow down their main audience so they can more effectively advertise. For smaller businesses, social media could help them start off. It is an easy way for people to see what you are selling without too much trouble. Since social media is so common, it is easy to target a unique group and perhaps grow the business in the process. Social media is also useful for keeping in contact over distances. It allows family, friends, loved ones and sometimes just a casual acquaintance, to stay in touch and see what is going on in each other’s lives without having to call or visit every time something little happens. Keeping in contact with people helps the relationship because instead of just not talking or connecting at all, they now have the ability to keep that bond even over long

In today’s day in age almost everyone has some form of social media. Many people have more than one. Whether it is Facebook, Twitter or some other form. We all use it to express and communicate our thoughts and feelings about ourselves and the world. Because of this many people do not know how to communicate face to face anymore and many times even hide behind their keyboard. Keller (2013), Quotes Paul Booth an assistant professor of media and cinema studies saying “There has been a shift in the way we communicate; rather than face-to-face interaction, we’re tending to prefer mediated communication,” he says. “We’d rather e-mail than meet; we’d rather text than talk on the phone”. Other people such as Qualman (2011), believes that using social media to communicate does not have to be such a bad thing. He says that if used properly it can be a very effect tool in the business world. Because social media touches pretty much everyone in some way it is a good strategy for overall success or an organization. There are both positive and negative communication effects on social media. The goal of this paper is to communicate the negative effect of how social media is effecting communication.
Though the importance and dependence of social media in society this meaning has been developed. The third principle of symbolic interactionism is that “meanings can change or be modified through interaction” (Ferris and Stein, 2014, pg. 32). This principle proves that social media does not have to be a negative influence is the dependence and meaning of it in society changed. If society, particularly younger generations, did not place such a heavy importance on social media it would not have the meaning that it does in our society. If social media did not have the importance in society that it does it would not have the power to negatively affect the mental well-being of so many individuals.

Within recent years the Internet and computer technology have made great advancements, allowing for the age of social media to be born and subsequently shaped into what it is today. Social media has become so largely desirable to modern day society due to its large and easy accessibility amongst citizens. Social Media such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube are web-based activities that provide individuals access to build a public or a semi-public profile within a confined system, connect and find users that they share a connection with as well as view and navigate the list of connections that are made by other participants of the systems (Boyd & Ellison, 2007). Social media is widely used by young adults contributing to about 84% of the total usage (Smith, 2011). Some of the popular reasons for widespread use of social media are staying in touch with near and dear ones especially with friends and family, making new friends, following famous politicians and celebrities and also in search of potential relationships (Smith, 2011). However as the use of social media becomes more widespread, we cannot help but express concerns over the effects that social media usage may have on our behavior. Over the past couple of decades, research has strongly linked social media usage with negative behavioral outcomes and is known to affect one’s overall well-being. This essay will begin by discussing some of the behavioral issues that result from social media usage, followed by criticisms of this argument. The recommendation will then highlight some ways by which the behavioural problems could be dealt with, acknowledging that self-monitoring and self-regulation are the main ways to tackle the issue.

It changes the way people communicate to one another or the way organizations communicate. Types of social media include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Youtube, Flickr, Tumblr, Snapchat, etc (Takaoka, 2017). However at what capacity does interpersonal communication fall under?
“Have we all become so desperate to share everything that we 've stopped enjoying our lives?” Lucy Sykes, a fiction author states. Oxford Dictionary defines social media as “a variety of websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking” (Oxford Dictionary Online). In this technological age, it is apparent that social media has become the main gateway to connect and interact, not only with our friends and families but also with the world around us. Using social media, including social networking sites, is now an essential part of everyone’s life. Yet, what often begins as a harmless virtual habit can hasten into a damaging and intruding one. Along with the convenience social media has brought, it also negatively affects people’s lifestyle, relationships, and self-esteem to the extent that it has become too invasive.
Social media plays a monumental part in young adults’ lives. Whether it is Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, people aged 13 to 35 have been constantly discovering new ways to interact with each other through a digital medium. But given the enormity of social media, it can only be expected that its effects are just as great. One of the key areas social media affects in these people is language. Therefore, messaging in social media and other forms of digital communication are expanding American young adults’ vocabulary, their attitude towards language, and the forms in which they communicate.
This generation is always on the phone, eyes are stuck to the computer. Girls are making duck faces and guys are throwing peace sign in all their pictures. Young impressible minds constantly streaming the web; copying what they see on the internet believing they can do it better. The problem is clear as day. Social websites tend to change certain characteristics of people. Some of these characteristics can be for the better or for the worse. And most of these characteristics are affecting the children the most, since they are the most impressible. And sadly accidents and death has been happening; but there is a bright side to these changes of characteristics. Thru my research I was able to find three website that had most effect on changing of characteristics. This proves my theory of through social networks dramatically has been changing people.
